First full-3D game in the mainline Pokemon series coming to 3DS later this year.
Nintendo has announced Pokemon X and Y for the Nintendo 3DS, the sixth generation of the long-running RPG series.
For the first time in the series, Nintendo will release the games simultaneously across Japan, America, and Europe in October 2013.
Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata announced the game during a Nintendo Direct presentation, showing off the game's fully 3D world and a new camera. Many of the traditional Pokemon elements were shown, such as a Pikachu hidden in some tall grass.
The game will feature a mix of Pokemon old and new, and Nintendo unveiled its trio of new starting Pokemon--watery toad Froakie, firey deer Fennekin, and grass monster Chespin. An announcement trailer was also made available.
Pokemon X and Y will be the first mainline Pokemon games made for the 3DS, although a series of spin-offs are already available on the device.
Last year, GameSpot's review of Pokemon Black 2 for the DS criticised the lack of advancement in the series, and awarded the game a 6.5.
“The stunning visuals, a completely redesigned environment, game scenario, music, and communication features will bring smiles to the faces of video game players around the world,” said GAME FREAK director Junichi Masuda in a press release.
I feel like I am going to level up all the freaking pokemons to lvl 100. And the game won't be launched until then;
Gosh I can't wait for this game.
I'm allergic to the block heads, I look at ken sugimori art, and I like it, I look at the graphics, that being any pokemon game, I feel it's cheap as shit.
How hard is it to keep the cool looks of the original concept artist? Even though I know the game will be good, since they made some progress story-wise, I can't digest those huge heads as big as their bodies! The characters don't look cute/fun or special, the graphics don't even make them look childish, only plain retarted.
To sum up, I was REALLY impressed by the manga/anime style trailer/cutscene from black2 white2. POkemon would have been awesome if it had evolved in that direction. The gameplay looks more interactive, we'll just see if it's just good enough to make me blind and not pay attention to the DK Mode Heads....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2SA4GyXb2U maybe it was too violent ?
@Frame11 Wow!! This is the real shit! I wish the anime was like that! I hate Ash Ketchum, that childish thing is just annoying, I can't take it anymore!
@Frame11 I wish the anime was done like this.
Hellz yeah!!!!!!! :D I can't wait for October, Pokemon X and Y are the perfect reasons for getting the 3DS.
And I don't mean to offend anybody, and if this doesn't relate to you then don't take it to heart..but pokemon fans can be some of the whiniest bunch of babies..be glad that Pokemon is still going strong after all these years. You should be happy and proud that Nintendo is still trying to make the series better with every new installment.
If you guys aren't yammering for remakes to old ass Hoen (gen 3), or complaining about titles (Black/White).....then you're complaining about pokemon designs (every gen after Hoen). Which it's perplexing because all you guys do bitch about it for a month or two after launch then you cave in and buy em' anyway. If pokemon is becoming redundant or unoriginal to you....then...stop playing the games and let the fans who REALLY ENJOY pokemon have their fun (me included XD).
Srry for the long post, and like I stated earlier, I dont mean to offend anyone, but I'm tired of all the 'proposed' fans buzz-killing any kind of excitement when a new gen come out with negativity or whining....but I cannot wait to get my hands on X and Y XD
@ceromaster THANK YOU OMG!!!! Pokemon fan club is no longer what it used to be. i seen someone get attacked for suggesting that ruby and sapphire don't need a remake and another for saying yvetal might be a physic steel . everyone used to be so united now no one is original . i cant even battle over WiFi without someone rage quitting or cursing me out for not being" a male trainer" i personally liked black and white but i feel they should bring some things back like the vs seeker and pokewatch but the game was great .but yea
p.s i want xerneas so bad and if they're is a z i will get it because its most likely a serpent. sorry if i'm nagging
@Chaos_Dante_456 nope just a overpowered fan with too many possibilities of kicking ass lol
@Chaos_Dante_456 Actually, it's males that have the one X and one Y chromosome. Women have two X chromosomes. And now I feel like a nerd.
get a new recruit and get him in the animus in the time of the civil war, where the templars are yet again influencing history. Oh, and get desmond revived. + GET THE F**K OUT, JUNO!!!!!!!!
That fire starter actually looks decent :D the water starter though.. grass looks like a green oshawott -.-
@Oblivion_540 no lie but i'm really liking froakie...i get the feeling his final form will be the best out of them
I think they all look nice, I have this feeling though I will hate one of their finals forms... just hope it isn't Froakie or Fennekin.
For the 1st Time in my life ... I will not be picking a water starter .... Big Head, Small Body does not fall under the cool section
@Panda-Pat wait....so you never thought mudkip had a big head and small body? I can understand squirtle, totodile, piplup, and oshawoot, they are fine, but I'm pretty sure mudkip had a huge head as a starter.
Christ those are some ugly starters, the fire type one looks semi-acceptable, and these titles are getting worse and worse.
@RAGEofSTUNTS what makes u think so? and if thats the case wat gen do u believe had the best starters?
OH NOT GOOD! I would really rather not see all that potential content get sacrificed to the 3D textures' memory space...DON'T KILL MY POKEMON GAMES!
@tgwolf Hopefully they make the games bigger and not focus to much on the graphics. Pokemon is all about the gameplay isnt it..
Use to love Pokemon, but the formula never changes and I am getting older so the feeling isn't the same. Been around since the good old blue and red days in black and white.
here's a thought what if studio ghibli took over the pokemon franchise. i mean would it not be an upgrade to the lore of pokemon and this is my opinion but i'd say they would do pokemon some good as far as art and design of pokemon too...
Even if they did take it over and do "good art" (The art looks great in the first place..) people would still complain about it because they aren't from the first Generation.
Hope they make it more challenging and the battle system takes more skill, previous pokemon were so easy that battles started becoming tedious
Great news. 3D or not, Pokemon (the mainline series) remains one of my favorite games after all these years. I admit Black and White and their respective successors were a bit lacking in the imagination department (especially when it comes to the Pokemon designs, since that is where the only real differences are), but I still enjoy building myself a small army of Pokemon with every new release.
I don't know if the 3D will add a lot of extra value, but it looks cool so far. I'm kind of amazed they made everything 3D, from the cities to the Pokemon battles. For me that is enough proof that Nintendo still cares and takes pride in their Pokemon titles.
I'm not really sure if I like the names of the new titles, though. Can we already add Pokemon XY or Pokemon Z to the list?
Pokemon Z will probably be the one they release after the others. Kinda like what they did with Platinum. Only a guess though :P
@ratchet200 NO, they make pokemon XX and XY because you know...chromosomes. lol XD
joking aside, we should be expecting a third installment, since that's what they always do.
Yay! Now I get to play the same exact game in 3D!
Okay, I'm speculating. They could probably do something different this time. But anyway...
I don't see why fans wanted a 3D version of the series so bad. Considering it's an RPG, it's not like a change in dimensions is going to have a huge impact in gameplay. Game Freak will have to change/improve the game a lot for me to get interested in the series again. But they can always rely on the gamers that'll keep buying the games no matter how little they change in between.
@Xily The dynamic camera angles in battles and better representation of whats going on in it is an already enough improvement by itself.
I always wanted a main Pokemon game with a 3D world and battles like in Pokemon Stadium, and thats what I'm getting right here.
I now hope they add more clever puzzles in gyms and routes/caves to make them more like dungeons in RPGs like the Tales series.
@andrescapo_ Of course an incremental upgrade such as a change in graphics in a stale series like Pokemon is enough of an improvement for you, because you were going to get the game regardless. Your standards are significantly lower than that of someone who's tired of the series.
From a visual standpoint, it's not like there's a fantastic atmosphere that'll help greatly in immersing the player. All you see here is a bunch of flashy explosions, facial animations, and dull environments.
Seeing as you have an avatar of the main girl from the Black & White series, you would have most likely bought the game if they had simply added another 100 uninspired creatures. Even that would have been an enough improvement according to the fans.
Again, since we don't have all the info, we'll have to wait and see what's in store.
I can tell you one thing...there's nothing 'inspired' about eggs, magnets, monkeys, slime, and pokeballs with eyes :P
And in case you didn't notice, I was referencing the first gen. And I think this new gen will be a breath of fresh air to the franchise, it's alot better than looking at badly animated pixels....
@Xily You are correct in thinking I was going to get it regardless. But don't think because I like the female trainer in Black and White I liked generation 5.
I just recently played Black and White a few months before Black and White 2 was released (and I have played a bit of White 2, I only have 2 badges), but I hacked in 6 pokemon because I don't like the Gen 5 ones. (I started with a Torchic, Riolu, Gible and others like that).
In this Gen 6 I'm already liking the Fire starter (I like foxes and even more if they have to do with fire) and I like both legendaries.
Still, thanks to the jump to 3D, especially for battles (I have been waiting for a 3D Pokemon adventure since I played Pokemon Red and Pokemon Stadium) I will get this game no matter how terrible the new Pokemon can get.
I just hope the movement around the maps is not grid based like in all the other games... that would make moving around with the Circle Pad really awkward.
@Xily It's mainly a marketing strategy to increase 3DS sales so people could continue playing Pokemon. It works quite well, especially with a game like Pokemon.
@Flamewolf75 I know that. I'm just asking why a shift from 2D to 3D should matter to Pokemon fans who are going to buy the games anyways. My previous comment was directed towards gamers that yearned for a 3D release of the main series before the 3DS came out.
I'd like to point out though that even if the new Pokemon game wasn't getting a graphical upgrade on a fancy new device, it would still help tremendously in driving the sales of the 3DS. Only a small minority wouldn't get the latest Pokemon game and/or the 3DS if the games remained in 2D. The change in aesthetics isn't the system seller, but rather the franchise. All Nintendo would need to do is announce the game as a 3DS exclusive, and both the game and the system would sell like hotcakes.
