Preorders and first-run copies of Activision action game to include voucher for weekly scheduled content drops of in-game abilities, events, challenges, and avatar items.
Activision is giving gamers 55 reasons to buy a new copy of Prototype 2 when it launches on April 24. The publisher today announced the Prototype 2 Radnet Edition, which will include access to 55 pieces of downloadable content available at no extra cost.
According to Activision, every gamer who preorders a copy of Prototype 2 for either the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 will score access to Radnet and its content through a onetime-use code. Additionally, the content will be available to those who pick up a new copy of the game at launch, though Activision warned these copies will be "limited."
Gamers who redeem the code will score 55 pieces of free DLC in the form of in-game events, challenges, avatar items, themes, and behind-the-scenes videos. These content drops will arrive in weekly dispatches beginning with the launch of the game on April 24 and running through June 7.
Additionally, Activision said an "ultimate shape-shifting reward" is part of the deal, but the publisher isn't sharing information about it until March. Of note, Activision said all Radnet content takes place entirely outside of Prototype 2's main story.
Activision did not say if the Radnet content will be made available at a later date for stand-alone purchase, and as of press time, the publisher had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.
Prototype 2 is the sequel to 2009's well-received open-world action adventure title from Radical Entertainment. It is set in the fictional world of New York Zero and casts players as Sgt. James Heller, an ex-soldier tasked with taking down the protagonist of the original game, Alex Mercer.

I remember when games were friging 40 new. Now theyre 60 dollars! If im paying that for a game i expect it to be the hole game not missing 55 stincking "additional" content. Bet in the future you'll have to pay an unlock fee for games and have to buy the ending. This is low and the game companies know it.
While its great that there are 55 bonus items but by June 7 the game will have been resold or forgotten about by most people.
Why are so many people annoyed that you get free content for pre-ordering? Is it because you are a cheap person, and want to wait for the game to become cheaper, and you are pissed that you will miss out on the content? Or are you one of the people who did pre-order this, but you are pissed that you have to "download" something on your small harddrive? I do not get it. Those are the only two main reasons I could come up with. What else is there that pisses people off? I am not calling anyone out, or starting a fight, I sincerely wish to know. pre order content is a complete joke practice that should be tossed out by companys... OOO pre order and get this content IF you don't you don't get the (whole) game. same thing goes for store pre order bonus. for big titles you see each store offering different weapons, armour, skins, extra quest ect. I support extra content for buying a game new you should get a code. this would help devs lead some money back towards them from used sales. but not pre order crap.

i love prototype think its way beath then call of duty mw3 and mw2 and codwaw and cod4 now blackops2 will be good but wen u got hackers and modders out there that play them games that why all the cod games suck
I expected something along these lines from Activi$ion but was really hoping it wouldn't come to this. I'm a big Prototype fan but I'm passing due to this. I can find something else to play.

This kind of thing makes me far less inclined to buy. It reeks of a company trying to bolster sales before the reviews come out and say the game is disappointing. Looks like a renter now.. (and I liked the first one)

I remember the days when the mere idea of paid DLC (that is, what used to be in free updates, or bundled in expansions) was ridiculous, and no one in their right mind would bother with it. look at them...
And publishers are wondering why less gamers are buying games new at full price and waiting until price drops or used. Because of BS crap like this. Soon there will be more DLC in a game than what comes with the original package.

So,55 small things locked on the disk,cut out from the game,that will probably make the game more unfair and unbalanced to the player who doesn't care about crappy DLC.But hey,we're dealing with Activi$ion here,no suprises about this.Who knows,maybe they'll even add some Elite-like crap... Sorry 55 items of DLC is not enough to pre order. I will wait for the "Gold" edition that will have all of that an more 6 months later. Even then I will only consider it after reading reviews etc.
This kind of crap annoys me. Trying to force me to buy the game when YOU want me to or else I don't get the good stuff unless I pay up extra for stuff already in the game, makes me not want to buy the game at all and just give my money to worthwhile companies that don't pull stunts like this.

Well, the first one impressed me enogh to actually consider pre-order. Need to know if this will be avaiable in Steam. If not... well, I can always can wait for a deal. First Prototype had 20% discount two weeks after release on Steam, and it did GOOD.
