Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City infecting PC, 360, PS3

having slant six doing this game would be a good thing, like another person posted if the new RE game had the controls like dead space , or in my opinion socom 4 with the option for using move or sharpshooter controls it would be awesome. i see so many posts here defending all the old RE games and i just can't understand why. seriously! you like having to hold X to walk ? you don't think that just moving a stick would be better? you don't like being able to move , stafe and shoot at the same time?

is this one going to be a true shooter , or over the shoulder piece of crap like RE4 & 5 , i don't understand how the resident evil series got so popular considering how BAD the first three for PS1 were ( holy crap the controls sucked! ) RE4 was a huge disappointment too with the over the shoulder planted feet aiming, both RE4 and 5 got about 10 minutes of gameplay before i went running back to the game store so i could get good tade in credit for them. seriously , the resident evil games SUCK. because of these games i swore to never buy another capcom product again, they havn't made anything good since super nintendo.

@Iceman_2049 Don't get me wrong, I like RE4 and RE5. They are good games. But to say that the old way of suspense and horror is dead or that it wouldn't work with todays audience is BS. The remakes for Game Cube were all successful for the most part. Has Capcom even attempted to release an old style RE title? There really isn't anything to support that it wouldn't be marketable to todays gamers. My philosophy is that there will always be room for fast action titles, so why turn the Resident Evil series into something it's not? I wouldn't expect Assassin's Creed series to suddenly do away with the climbing aspects, the sword play and action that made it to popular and successful to begin with so why would Resident Evil basically become just another action series when it is the horror aspects that the long time fans enjoyed most.

@ravi_007 - A generation gap of 7 yrs?? "old" gamers and "new" gamers like you?? Are you twisted or just slightly bent? I actually played, still play, and love RE 1-3. I also played/play and love RE4/5. I would even hazard to bet that there are even more of "me". Just a guess of course.

@ravi_007 then you have NO idea what the main basis of RE is if you dont like the first 3! This game is gonna be from another perspective on the best game in the series, RE 2. To me and to all the hardcore RE nerds like me, that is f***ing awesome!

nice man!! but i dont like re1-re3. they are too old to follow. new gamers like me like re4 and re5 and dont even want to try re1 -re3. thats the generation gap between old players and new players. so if u want re series get back to the old days then majority gamers(new gamers) will never like it which is really a loss nothing else for the developers.

@sharpnickelz I agree with pretty much everything you've said, however, i have to say as much as i absolutely loved the old style of resident evil games, with the fixed camera angles and such, i honestly believe that they just wouldn't captivate gamers today anywhere near as much as they did in the past. That's not to say they couldn't make more Survival horror based RE games. i mean look at Dead space, Same over the shoulder actiony type gameplay as RE4/5, but So muchsuspence and horror that you can't shake a stick with out getting it covered in terrorsauce.. Give me a resident evil game, set in Raccoon city, amidst the T-Virus outbreak, that plays like Dead space, and i'm happy.

You can also see the shift in the series by looking at the main protagonist. In the original Resident Evil, it was the Tyrant. Classic in every sense. Slow moving, big and brutal. Fast forward to RE5, you have a super-villain style Wesker who is faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive...basically symbolizing how this series has went from actual Survival Horror, to a comic book inspired action sci-fi pseudo-horror. I can't believe people are actually getting tired of Zombies. Is that even possible?! Zombies have so much potential left, I still haven't seen a game where the zombies have looked that realistic, even Dead Rising is too cartoony to pull of truly scary looking undead.

Bottom-line is, even though many new generation console gamers prefer the RE4, RE5 style of game play, the RE1-RE3, Code Veronica style of Resident Evil games allowed for more atmospheric and chilling gameplay, albeit less trilling and fast paced. It seems that a lot of our entertainment mediums are heading in this direction (e.g. movies), catering toward a crowd that are impatient and prefer non-stop action and thrills over suspense and atmosphere. Its not a question of what situation would be more scary (slow moving zombies vs. enraged mutations), its a question of what makes for better more effective horror, since this, or was, a survival horror game series. To say that the old way of doing RE games is too old fashioned, long since past, is hogwash. Look at games like Silent Hill 4, Penumbra, Call of Cthulhu and Alan Wake. All excellent examples of how newer games can still recapture the essence of what made the granddaddies like RE and RE2 so effective. In short, if I wanted thrills, I'd play Uncharted 2, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood or Crysis 2. But when I want chills, suspense and horror...I think Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Alan Wake...

@feleas Well, I'm glad the gameplay isn't anything like oldschool RE since that'd be a cluster...mess. For reference, check the Outbreak games. I made the mistake of getting the Lost in Nightmares dlc for RE5, which was old school in many ways, and reminding myself that nostalgia is no reason to go back to old ways if the new ways are better. RE1-RE3 told that story and used that gameplay, it's played out and there's too many damned things with zombies nowadays, so they should just move on and let it rest.

@OJdaLIONKing You may like RE4 and RE5, and the lore makes sense behind it all because they're developing a bio-weapon that advances in it's development, but a lot of us loved RE2 the most for what it provided. RE1-3 stuck with the same formula of zombie outbreak. RE4-5, may have advanced the story and gave perfect reasons for the lack of zombies, but that's where it made it's mistake. The lack of zombies. However, I'm not gonna lie and say the games were horrible. Hell no, the visuals in those games did the series justice. Now all we need is RE1-3 redone with those graphics, haha.

This would be interesting playing this game from the other perspective from what we saw in the earlier games. Good times back then, and hopefully good times here too. Good old zombies, not modified "infected" as the stuff we saw in RE4 and 5. I can deal with the actual zombies. They don't run at you, haha. Also, by the looks of that teaser trailer, this looks more action based than the older games. Makes sense since it's a different dev team working on it, but disapointing since it looks like it won't work with the old formula of the glued camera angles, where if you hear something behind you, you're thinking, "Ah s__t! I can't see!! Why me?!?!?!"

Im down for this. But..umm...can we PLEASE have some scares in this one? L4D has shown you can, or at the very least, give us some good jump scares. Move back to that. I don't want to play another " slow paced Devil may Cry " version of Resident evil like the last one.

@The-Longshot I think so to, I like the fact that they will incorporate killing both zombies and survivals. A cross between L4D and RE isn't a bad thing if they do it right. I'll be interested to see development shots as the game progresses.

@itachi1991 I think the review scores, sales and general acceptance of RE4 and RE5 negate your argument there. As with many things on the internet, a (very) vocal minority may want the game to rewind 15 years of evolution, but it's not what most want.

Hm... I don't know. Based on the lone fact of playing as Umbrella Security, I guess it could work. I'd have to see it to have any more interest.

Hopefully they dont ruin it by making it not connect it with RE1 or 2...

re5 sucked because it was coop it wasnt dark outside and their bosses were repetitive and unrewarding

@mfall121 I agree this does sounds quite a cross of RE and L4D. I think its sweet their taking a whole new angel and letting you work for umbrella this time instead of against them, should be supra interesting and fun to boot!

@lucierbelmont Ok kid what's your deal, I'm saying this game looks like a cross over of RE and L4D. And let's face it RE outbreak no where came even close to being as fun as L4D, I own them both and can say that. As far as other's dumbing me down from the truth not sure what you mean by that but here's the truth, hopefully this game is MUCH BETTER than RE Outbreak. Catch on to that kid.

@itachi1993 While I completely agree with you about the "crazed people" not being near as effective in creating a scary atmosphere as the zombies, Resident Evil 4 was an amazing game to say the least reguardless of the stupid "crazed people" as enemies. Now Resident Evil 5 is a whole other story that I will sum up in one word, Garbage.

i dont want to get into a fanboy fight because i know how much some people hate the recent 2 while the other half of the cummunity loves them. all i have to say is 1.it better not be some homosexual rail shooter and 2. if it succeed then capcom will do well. if it flops then i see that capcom probably wont reallly wont be impacted severely. but if it does flop it just may prove the capcom is the ONLY people who should make the resident evil series

@ mrzero1982pt2, I think Slant Six knows that if this flops, they are down; with two big flops, it will make it harder to sell a product.

@OJdaLIONKing Yeah, it left the city and the best thing, ZOMBIES. Resident evil 4 and five were horrid because it felt more like you were fighting crazed people; not creatures that instill fear like the zombies. Not to mention, 4 and 5 were not scary at all; and when your game is a survival horror and it is not scary, you failed to create a product that the fans are looking for.

Would rather a reboot of the series or a RE6 with Claire and Leon, however I am not gonna count this one out from the beginning cuz nobody knows what the final product is gonna be. Hope it turns out to be great!!

@Maluk No, I played RE4, considered one of the greatest games all time and the update a dying series needed; and RE5, by far the best selling in the RE series to date despite how fashionable it is to hate on it. Just because RE1-RE3 came out first doesn't mean they're the best, for instance even the most hardcore oldschool (annoying) FF fanboys generally don't consider FF1-FF3j THE games that no other shall surpass. Part of the reason RE4 was so awesome was that it finally got out of that same city with it's overused setting and took the series someplace new and interesting. Granted, I seriously doubt this game will PLAY anything like RE1-RE3, but as it's not a mainline RE game anyway I don't see a huge need to stuff it in Raccoon City for the 18345th time. I kinda just want RE6 or the rumored RE reboot already, though, provided they don't go back to 15 year old gameplay mechanics in the latter.

@RyuRanVII If the fans are so desperate then why do all these games keep selling so well? All you have to do is watch a video and you can clearly see an emphasis on action over horror.

Nothing like judging a game that you know absolutely nothing about. Fact of the matter is if you want to enjoy a game you will find fun in it. Or if you want to hate a game you will nit pick everything about it, jump on forums and spout off why it is "trash" and the first one is superior because you can't branch out and try new things.

Well Capcom keeps getting further and further away from the formula that made Resident evil the Badass, horror survivor game it was on the ps1.

So a new Resident Evil spin off, we kinda see them more then actual games with direct relation to the story ffs. Do we need another RE Spin off, why not bring back Leo and let Chris and Wesker die in peace, (I just want to see more Leo with a new story and NOT a remake) The fact that you might be able to kill Leo is a crime of its own and the idea along with the person that came up with it should be taken to the roof of the highest building in the city they are in and throw them as if you just got beaten by a spammer in MvC3

I got a feeling that this idea is going to end up pretty bad seriously after the whole series drifted off the track. I don't really think that Capcom will ever come back to the original series :( But for me at least the graphics are going to be awesome
