Sega divvies up preorder incentives for Total War: Shogun 2 - Fall of the Samurai between digital retailers and brick and mortar stores.
Sega has today announced its preorder incentives for Total War: Shogun 2 - Fall of the Samurai, which is due out sometime in March.
The offers vary depending on where you preorder Total War: Shogun 2 - Fall of the Samurai from, with brick and mortar retail customers scoring a double-sided poster and access to the Saga faction pack. The Steam offer is fairly similar; users who throw down money prerelease will receive the Tsu faction pack and a digital version of the game's soundtrack. Finally, those who shop at Sega's own store will be able to play as the Obama faction.
The original Shogun: Total War game was released in 2000, spawning a franchise that comprises over half a dozen entries (excluding expansion packs). While the series has made its way through various time periods over the years, last year saw developer The Creative Assembly return to its feudal Japanese roots with Total War: Shogun 2. The game scored favourably with the critics and was praised for its artificial intelligence and engaging siege battles.
@simon1812 why would steam keep you from buying the game? i got from steam for 14.99....but the next day it went down to 7.99 -_-
interesting. but yeah pretty much feel the same way as cordelas here, after empires I lost my faith in TW 's developers, I will try Shogun 2 once it price drops down to $16, thought the whole steam thing will altogether keep me from buying the game.
CA is a bunch of traitors. I bought every title and expansion from shogun 1 and medieval 2 was my last game. After that the games (empires,shogun2,etc) are dumbed down. Quality has dropped. I hope they bankrupt.
@Llama345 Agreed. You can look throughout history- human waves were still viable in WW2, they were used during the Iran-Iraq war, etc, etc.
@ggregd you can look all the way up to vietnam (this is the only for sure story i know) where they stormed a hill called 'hamburger hill' because of the machine guns turning humans into 'hamburger'. sometimes you just gotta charge.
So in other words, to get the full game, you'd have to place three pre-orders. I thought the internet age would be the best thing for video games. Instead it has allowed publishers to release unfinished products with the promise of future patches (and every TW game since Empire has needed extensive patching) and to charge extra for content that could have been included on the disc.
Obviously you're going to be careful not to assault defensive positions manned by cannon, gatling gun and rifle wielding troops, especially not with melee troops. If you think this just makes the Japanese look foolish, remember that Robert E. Lee and the rest of the US Civil War generals weren't apt enough to figure out it out either... The samurai factions will also have access to guns. So winning as the conservative/traditional samurai side is just going to be an added challenge. Unless they're complete idiots the developers will make it so. Westernization was also an important period in Japan's history.
@PC-RUL3S i think they are justifying it by the fact it is a stand-alone game. And there is more to it than just units.
I wasa huge AOE/Command $ Conquer and Starcraft fan. I know this game was in made in a similar vein with a different gameplay style. This new version may be worth checking out. http://www.gameexchangeshop.com
It is to expensive for an expansion most of the textures will be copied and pasted from Shogun 2 there for you can't stick the £18-25 price tags on this take BC2: Vietnam that cost £10 and that felt like the right price. It's a total rip off for what essentially is a couple of new units.
By the looks of the new Shogun game we are headed to the two great wars in the future. Like boxxcar88 it does remind me of the Tom Cruise movie and that isn't all bad. If it plays as well as the first we are in for a treat.
@fatee idk man... have you ever seen the Last Samurai? ya its a tom cruise movie but when they got close, the Samurai cut them to pieces. i feel guns will be nice but when it comes to hand to hand, your "beloved army/culture" will win.
@fatee I completely agree. The reason I loved Shogun 2 was because it was set during the Sengoku period where samurai's were at their prime. The Sengoku period is probably one of the most well known periods in Japan's history. I'm fascinated by the Sengoku period and the whole samurai thing, but bringing this western flavour to the game will stop me from buying it.
Enough with this (admittedly awesome) Samurai stuff. Rome 2 please. And make it available through OnLive for those of us who can't afford an awesome PC.
@fatee not really. i'm expecting the gattling gun to be a more powerful version of the cannon, but with downsides. Beatable by flanking or waiting until it runs out of ammunition. Acquisition of firearms will probably be costly as well
Don't get me wrong, Shogun 2 is one of the best games i've ever played in my life, and i've been gaming since 2D graphics. I am, however, not getting this expansion... the thought of gun wielding armies being pitted against noble sword wielding samurais just makes me so sad... I mean damn, this whole DLC is about wiping out your beloved army/culture and game and ending the series =(
