Shadow of the Colossus movie signs on Chronicle's Josh Trank
Director behind this year's sleeper hit superhero film reportedly heading up adaptation of Team Ico's PlayStation 2 game.
The feature film adaptation of Shadow of the Colossus is back on, with a new director attached. According to a Deadline report, the project is moving forward with Josh Trank directing and Kevin Misher producing.
Trank is best known as the director of this year's sleeper hit superhero film Chronicle. In addition to the Shadow of the Colossus assignment (one that he reportedly sought out, as a fan of the game), Trank is working on two new movies based on Marvel Comics characters, one for the Fantastic Four and another based on Spider-Man antihero Venom. As far as Misher's previous experience, he served as a producer on The Scorpion King and its sequels, Mirror Mirror and Public Enemies, among others.
Hailed by reviewers on its release in 2005, the PlayStation 2-exclusive Shadow of the Colossus sold more than 900,000 copies in the US. The game follows a young warrior who has brought his fallen love to a faraway temple in the hopes of restoring her to health. According to a mysterious presence that dwells within the temple's walls, the only way to save this girl is to hunt down and destroy the 16 massive beasts that roam the surrounding lands.
News of the Shadow of the Colossus movie adaptation first surfaced in 2009, with Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li screenwriter Justin Marks on board to write the script. Marks may be gone from the project at this point, as Deadline reports that Sony Pictures is currently interviewing writers to work with Trank.
