Skyrim adding Dawnguard DLC this summer

Mystery content headed first to the Xbox 360 version of Elder Scrolls V this summer; more details slated to arrive at E3 2012.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will add its first wave of downloadable content this summer, Bethesda confirmed this afternoon. Titled Dawnguard, the content will arrive initially for the Xbox 360 and will be discussed in greater detail at the 2012 Electronic Entertainment Expo this June.
Bethesda issued one image for the content (at right), which depicts the game's dragonborn male character. His eyes are illuminated with a gold hue, and a quiver of arrows rests upon his back. Last week, it was suggested that Skyrim's first DLC would add crossbows and snow elves to the game.
Dawnguard will launch first on the Xbox 360 and will remain exclusive to that platform for 30 days. After that time has elapsed, it will spread to additional platforms.
The title Dawnguard is not a surprise. In March, Bethesda parent company Zenimax sought a trademark for Dawnguard but did not provide any details on what it planned to do with the name. For more on Skyrim, check out GameSpot's review.

well im glad to see that people are finally able to see the obvious faults with skyrim compared to it's predecessors, i.e. the lack of the deep rpg elements that made us all fall in love with the series in the first place. my only hope for dawnguard is that, even if its just within the new area and questlines that it makes, is that it is a whole lot deeper then the rest of the game proved to be, otherwise I might just give up on this series all together because honestly if they keep shoveling underachieving, obviously unfinished crap like this at us and expect us to just buy it based on their previous achievements and flashy new graphics then they've just lost a die-hard fan.
@meeatworld had no problems with skyrim software. patches must've fixed them as i progressed, like they're supposed to. i can't say i ever got into the main story at all though, really didn't care about either "side" or the factions in this elder scrolls. the only thing that kept me playing for 180hrs was the gameplay and the simple quests offered by everyone everywhere in this huge expanse of open terrain and all the caves and buildings scattered throughout. with the awesome graphics (after HD update and a couple mods) this has become one of my favorite games. hurry the hell up with some DLC!
3 Like @meeatworld I agree its not as deep an RPG as Morrowind was. But the rest of what you're saying isn't right. It wasn't unfinished, and certainly isn't crap. With a game of this scale, there will always be bugs. And honestly, there wasn't anything that was even close to game-breaking.

all i want to see is more content; meaning more items, more special items, new areas, new enemies, more meaningful quests and just stuff that you have to work or look for. for example Oblivion held many secret armor and weapons that were hidden and so did fallout 3. I would also love to see an Arena come back into the game were you can also challenge people to a fight to the death like in the Morrowind 'Welcome to the Arena' mod for PC. i find Skyrim not to be as exciting as previous games and i find it lacking RPG elements (Like the fact if you worked so hard on Oblivion you could jump really high) so i would like to see more RPG elements re-enter the franchise. I find myself playing morrowind more than Skyrim and probably always will because in my opinion it is the best Elder Scrolls.
2 Like yup PC gamers i envy all of you who can get free expansions with the mods, but all i have its my PS3 i cant afford to buy a 1000$ computer so im still happy to hear that dawnward its going to be an expansion rather than stupids adds like batman AC silly adds...
@wolfmgs so dont waste your money on a $1000 pc. a good $600 setup will run anything out there at lower resolution like 900p with all effects on at great fps. will run anything out there at 1080p with most effects on at decent fps (higher than any console game's fps for sure).

@jeremywm I'm sure you do know what you're talking about (And I was exaggerating about 640*480). But I stick by saying that that Walmart PC cannot max out Skyrim with AA, etc at good enough resolution/FPS. A 6530 is not built to play games.

I have a athlon dual core 2.7 4gb ram gefore gts 250 and I can still play crysis 2, skyrim and witcher 2 maxxed out at 1600/1024 with no problem and I build this 5 years ago.

Well for starters, to PC/PS3 gamers that bitch about 30 day exclusive that keeps saying bethesdas screwing them over. stfu! Yes skyrim runs better on PC, but PC or PS3 gamers do not pay for shit, 360 gamers have to pay 60 dollars for membership which microsoft sometimes uses to pay game companies to release their games as compensation for giving us(360 gamers) nothing, PC gamers, they gave you a creation kit and you have shit tons of mod yet you still want more? wait the 30 days instead of whining bethesdas given you guys a lot compared to Ps3 gamers, I feel sorry for Ps3 gamers the most since they dont get anything like 30 day exclusive but you guys dont pay for shit either, so im not trying to start shit im just letting everyone know why 360 gamers get exclusives while Ps3/Pc gamers dont. They only announced Dawnguard and gave us a picture yet you feel like you know everything? as i said, Dont critisize Bethesda, unless you have the right, if you critizise bethesda about every little fucking thing when you dont have the right to, thats called bitching at them. Bethesda tries to create games for you guys yet you dont feel the right to even cheer for them? instead you critisize them. SO just stop, wait the 30 days pc/ps3 gamers, think about it this way, all 360 gamers are basicly giving the game a beta test so bugs will be fixed so when it comes out for PC/Ps3, it will be better for you guys. So please stop whining, im sure you guys will be able to wait theres other games out there.
1 Like With over 200 hours of play on the 360, I've only had one terribly glitchy cave and two freezes. I would say that is not bad at all. (I'm not counting the collectibles in my homes strewn all over the place when I reenter the first time, though. That's a minor inconvenience!)
1 Like PC users are already so spoiled already, that they felt bad for the 360 users. PS3 users gets the usual.
I play on PC, and tbh, I'd rather have the Creation Kit plus 100+ mods that makes the game 17x more awesome, rather than getting the DLC a month early. No complains.
Will NOT be supporting this. after 200+ hours in the first couple weeks of the most repetitive game, I took a break, let the updates come out to hopefully fix the bugs. Turned it on 10 minutes ago for the first time in months, sat through the update, and got 3 MINUTES into playing and the game froze. Not worth the headache. Oblivion was 10 times more engaging and exciting than Skyrim, and I could at least get several hours of play time in between freezes. And what is with Gapespot's new commenting format? where is the thumb down option? Was hoping everyone with a Skyrim hard-on would thumb me down. Wish I sold this back months ago, don't even want it on my collection shelf. Garbage.
2 Like @jrmorgan23 I'm assuming you're a pc gamer. Ever consider your computer is a piece of Mudcrab crap? On Xbox, I never freeze for either game, and I've done /everything/. I mean, everything. Dlc for Oblivion included. I can play Skyrim on my pc without freezes, though it's a bit laggy. Admittedly my pc is a hand-me-down from my older sister, but hey, playing is playing.Just thought I should say this. If you're gonna complain, say your console. If it's pc, say your hardware because we don't need people complaining when the source is their own stuff. Would be a shame if this turned someone away from the game..
@LordDovahkiin Yeah, I have an Xbox and almost never freeze. Probably only twice ever, and that was after playing for a long time.
@LordDovahkiin PS3, with patch update. Froze all the time, even cleaned up the hard drive thinking that might help. I've never had a game freeze as much as this, even oblivion performed better. Taking that into consideration, as well as the mind numbing repetitiveness of the quests, Elder Scrolls might have lost this once loyal supporter.

Think of it this way, people. The XBox 360 users get to find any of the post-QA cycle bugs first, which means other platforms will stand a better chance of getting a release more free of bugs - so we get the better initial quality :)
3 Like Don't complain about the PS3 getting their content later than the xbox. Everyone knows that one of the reasons xbox users pay for monthly memberships is (not only because microsoft is greedy) but it also ensures we get content first, if you're going to complain about 30 days, then maybe you should go buy a 360.
@BigBeaufort Its not because of the membership stuff. Its because Microsoft sponsors Bethesda.
For those who don't know yet, Xbox will get the DLC first. We PS3 users will have to deal with a 1 month delay before the DLC release is available.

@thenephariouson snow elves were what is now called falmer (in skyrim of course) driven back by the nords (the later original native species of skyrim) that is why the falmer were forced into the underground (they made an alliance with the dwarves an unesy one which they broke thats why the falmer are blind) diuoh

@thenephariouson I would imagine that on one game it is pointless, but it seems as though they are trying to get it on the biggest games. Which if it was to become a continued trend would sway people to get the 360 version (and indeed a 360 if they don't have it already) over the PS3/PC versions. Whether or not this will actually happen is another matter entirely, but it must be their intention. Along with helping to keep their current gamers loyal to their console that is.
@Thorow Or maybe they are releasing things on 360 first so that they can have time to correct anything wrong with it on PS3 and PC?

What A CRAP! This is simply ...ugly from their part... I remember the game being released on all platforms in the same period, not one month later... This is purely money oriented...
Releasing DLC info at e3... seems like you need to sort out your priorities Bethesda, you have other things in development that people would much rather hear about, unless by DLC you mean expansion pack. (which I kinda doubt.)
1 Like Yeah, smart move there Bethesda. Release DLC for a game utterly full of glitches instead of fixing it first. Good job. I'll pass, and wait for an Ultimate Edition without getting ripped off by DLC prices, and hopefully a better patched game.
i really hate how the gaming world breaks its new. Last week, Gamespot: "Late breaking news, we heard a rumor that new week bethseda will reveal new about DLC for Skyrim." Yesterday, Gamespot: "in bethseda's blog said they will release news about the DLC for Skyrim." Today, is the news we all been waiting for... Today: "The next DLC will be named Dawn Guard and will reveal more information at E3" So most people already knew it was going to be called that anyway...SO this whole weeks news has been preparing us, leading up to a freaking DLC's name and some lame ass picture. Great way to build anticipation for nothing. It's like shutting down the airways for an emergency broadcast message to inform the public the President of the United States had to fart.
@UndeadAssassin7 no i think there going to be intoduced back to skyrim from some where else or it ma ybe a character chice in a most likely elder scrolls VI (6 in romen numerals) games
