Skyrim: Dawnguard beta hitting Xbox 360

Bethesda now accepting Xbox 360 beta period applications for Elder Scrolls V's first DLC; those accepted will receive full content code.
Want a chance to not only score early access to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's first downloadable content Dawnguard, but also receive the add-on for free? Bethesda is offering just that to those who apply to beta-test the Xbox 360 version of the DLC.
Interested gamers can apply for the beta period at the Dawnguard website. Applicants must have a registered account on the game's official forums, and Bethesda said users will want to make sure their forum email addresses are up to date.
The developer said it will begin selecting applicants in "about a week." Those who are chosen will receive an Xbox Live code to redeem the full Dawnguard expansion prior to its launch this summer free of charge.
No mention was made concerning whether or not a similar beta period will be held for the PlayStation 3 and PC, and a Bethesda representative told GameSpot, "Dawnguard is only announced for [Xbox 360] so that's the only platform we are talking about now."
Dawnguard is the first expansion to the award-winning role-playing game Skyrim and is rumored to add snow elves and crossbows. Bethesda released its first trailer this week. For more on the content, check out GameSpot's analysis of the video, embedded below.

2 Like I'm quite outspoken about the ME 3 ending but even I think all this moaning about bugs is getting old.
OK the game was unplayable for me due to constant crashes when it first came out but Bethesda have released 6 patches since then and you guys are still whining. It isn't like they aren't doing anything.
Some companies just ignore customers and refuse to fix any bugs or just do one half arsed patch just to shut people up. It's them you should be having a go at.
1 Like @NeilCardiff Obviously you don't know about the Unofficial Patch on PC. I believe it was 3 people who made a patch that fixes several hundred bugs, misplaced objects, etc. while Bethesda releases a few patches that fix a dozen bugs each. Yes, they're working on it, but clearly they could be working a whole lot harder.
Hm. I feel like there were a lot of items missed. The person with the Scroll on her back is probably the "daughter". The Elder Scroll is being used to see the past (or possibly the future) of Skyrim (just like when we learn Dragonrend). Also, new quiver for the crossbow, definitely NEW faction-specific armour & weapons (all with faction emblems), and; is there really any doubt that we're dealing with some kind of vampires?

1 Like Doesn't it look a lot smaller than expected. Looks like just two castles, maybe a tiny island. not even the size of the thieves guild hideout in riften. where are morrowind and cyrodil, and the expected bonus cities.
I mean so they already planned 3 expansions, and each will be like that and have 2 small dungeons each. sure it's not a horse armor, but unless the price is 1$ I'm not sure it's worth it. Skyrim is already hugue and full of dungeons. What it needs is fixing the AI and scaling so it pose a difficulty at the high end. I'm disapointed.

Or are you one of those OS TES players who claim that: "No matter what, they will never make a game better than Morrowind"? Sure the Horse armour was bs, but you can't whine over that for eternity. I see that two people agree with you, but if you look down below, you will see that one of them is a bit crazy, that should be enough to make you revise your statement.
I agree, look like they use Skyrim to fund tes4 online, just like blizzard screwed up diablo 2 fans to fund world of warcraft. worst. since it's 2 separate company, zenimax can syphoon the money from bethesda then close the studio, firing everyone - just like studio 48 did with kingdom of amalur.
@Astarsis Hahaha you gave me a good laugh, I would very much like to see your sources, I mean Bethesda is only involved with TESO (NOT TES4, besides it would be 6 if anything) about the lore, they have nothing else to do with it. Sure Bethesda will get some money from the final product, but in no way will they take over or grab all the money. Furthermore I don't think Blizzard screwed anyone over, as far as I know Diablo 2 and 3 Fans have not been screwed over to fund WoW. And it's "38 Studios", they shut down because of economic problems, which is sad since KoA is a really good game.

You couldn't recognize an Elder Scroll, you couldn't recognize Molag Bal's fountain (the Daedric Lord who created vampires), and you messed up your map analysis. You guys suck.
1 Like @TerminalCake Well put, the "suck" part is perhaps a bit to cruel, but you would assume that "analysers" knew what they were talking about. The Elder Scroll part was a bit of a Facepalm, along with the complete disregard of snow elves. They did however focus on a thing I didn't really notice (it might not be true, but interesting nonetheless), the so-called "giant/troll hybrid".
2 Like @I_a_Epicas - 1. You don't have to spend £150 every time an xbox dies. 2. You don't ruin your stature by slouching on a sofa 3 metres away from your TV whilst having your eyes burn all night long. 3. No gaming subscription on something that should be free and is on every other platform. 4. Screen size isn't an issue because a 19 inch monitor from three feet away is the same as a 40 inch TV ten feet away. Alternatively plug your rig into a tv, best of both. 5. A ton of very good, user made content. 6. No lag if you have a system that can handle it and lets face it, many consoles can't, it's laughable at how badly a console runs something like Skyrim when the graphics are so poor and nothing is happening. 7. You can have that one, don't play online anyway. 8.You can get very good sound systems for next to nothing.
Ultimately a good PC will blow a console out of the water in most instances, games are cheaper too.
Please note I'm not bashing Xbox users, play what you want on what you want, I just don't rate Xboxes as good value for money when I've had three die on me. Consoles are great for their user friendliness and lack of hardware, they do give people the chance to play games without having to fork out for a decent PC, but the experience is not comparable in any way.
My little list just an example to show it's easy to create a comparable list of what makes a PC superior on the same subjects.
I don't like platform bashing, and I certainly don't like PC elitism.
1 Like @Yarrickshad I disagree. Especially since red ring of death is extremely rare now days unless you've had your console(s) for ages. PC usage has been known to contribute to Myopia and back and wrist problems, but disagree or not. This is Skyrim we're talking about. I love to see it running on my friend's state-of-the-art PC. Not much of a difference unless you know what to look for...or compare them side by side. But still fun to check out...If I was a nerd with more PC experience I bet I'd notice a difference faster... or perhaps I need a bottle-cap prescription like yours?
1 Like @The_Dragon_Born There actually can be a HUGE difference e in graphics between the console and the PC and that comes with graphics mods, and tweaks. In fact I saw it with Oblivion, where after downloading all the graphics mods and upgrades, I couldnt even play the console version cause it looked like complete crap. Same is already happening with the PC version of Skyrim, I only have a handful of graphics mods and upgrades for it, but its already making a huge difference. You are correct though, the release versions of both games have negligible graphic differences. The Difference is that On the PC they can be improved, on the console they cannot.
@The_Dragon_Born I did have my xbox for a while, if it's fixed it's fixed which is good. Those illnesses are also attributed to console gaming as well, so called "Playstation Thumb" and trigger finger. You don't need to know what your looking for to notice the difference between them. I play Skyrim on the PC with everything on full with a mod called Warzones and it's great, go down stairs and my house mate would be playing it on console and it's barren and hideous. It's a case of acclimatisation. But hey you like consoles I like the PC, we both win!
Not sure what the bottle-cap prescription comment was about but hey. I do like how we both play the same game but I'm a "nerd" because I use a PC lol.
5 Like I don't get why PC people keep bashing the 360. So it turns out in nearly every graphics comparison the 360 has beaten PS3 despite predictions to the contrary. (Its about the graphics card, PS3 was too dang hard to program). So it turns out that PC is better if you want to hook it up to your TV, figure out a gamepad that works and most importantly spend the extra cash for a rig like that, but hey...You get mods and I don't! Personally, why not live and let live? I don't have to worry about red ring of death jokes, that's in the past. Why not be happy with what you have? I like console gaming best, its easier to me and I'd rather spend my extra cash on a lot of things rather than a soon-to-be outdated PC. If you got the cash to burn then do it. Run those circles around my 360, I won't even notice, I'll be too busy playing the beta.

3 Like I, like most gamers, want to sit on the couch, press the middle button, and play the damn game. Not spend 40 hours hurting my brain over what to hack and what to change. Just to enjoy the game as it was meant to be enjoyed. And who cares WHY the companies make there games or why they pick certain consoles? Just accept it and keep playing. I mean, what are the chances all of us would get picked for the test anyways?

Sure, PC's are cool, but if you have an Xbox, 1, you don't spend $1000 for a fast laptop or cpu. 2, you dont have to mess up your back by hunching over your computer moniter from 3 feet away and having your eyes burn all night long. 3, No epic Xbox live accounts with achievments ect. 4, most likely bigger screen. 5, a ton of less downloading. 6, very little lagg(if any). 7, less poeple hack/mod it online so games are fun and last longer. 8, Most likely better sound system. @I_am_Epicus You do know that over 90% of multiplatform games support gamepad on PC, so you can play with that and sit on your couch. And you can also connect HD tv to your PC, like I at least have. And Steam at least has achievements. Also on PC there're mods that can improve the game in many ways and make it harder or just funnier.
I still think that consoles are superior to PC's because of the games. Consoles just have more better games exclusively on them, and those're what matter in gaming console or PC, not the company behind it, not the hardware, but the actual games. I just hate it when people can't understand that you can have same kind of gaming experience that you want on PC and console, just plug in pad and tv to your PC and it's all the same. It may cost a little more, but if people have money I'm not the one saying where they spend it :)
I just hate fanboys, be they PC or console. They try to make "arguments" why other is better than other in gaming department, but in the end it all comes down to the games and what you yourself prefer(or how much money you can spend). So HA! 7 Like They didnt sell out. Were testing the dlc before its released to the other platforms. Pc gamers got mod kits and all the other awesome stuff while console gamers got the cold shoulder. all xbox got was kinect feature. Lets face it, a beta for a ps3? naw..... its much easier to port from xbox to pc. ps3 user should be the ones crying but honestly its the game makers choice to beta. If you feel so upset about it, sell your copy and 86 them from your future pre order list. I pay for this xbl service, have been for years. I think its about time betas come our way.

2 Like @Idontremember No it doesn't need to stop. It's a smart move by MS and it's a good way to treat Xbox owners. It gives people more reason to buy an xbox. And Bethesda isn't selling out, they were offered money and they took it. Any smart person would do the same.

....Last I checked, that's called selling out. In doing so, they are alienating the players of the platform that made the Elder Scrolls games what they are today, the PC.

Don't put words in my mouth. I'm fairly indifferent towards some developers at the moment, but if they make a good game I will still buy it and play.
However, I have always held Bethesda in esteem for their excellent PC games and their dedication to the PC market. As a result, I tend to keep a keen interest in anything that Bethesda works on and, quite often, buy/preorder it. This is what a good reputation and reciprocating fan loyalty achieves. Sales of future games that might otherwise not happen.
This decision will certainly not wipe out the fan base for Bethesda, but it will diminish the ardor for Bethesda as a studio in many. Thus, they become indifferent. They will hold games on their own merit without Bethesda being a factor. Some of the more reactionary will become hostile, of course, and not buy ANYTHING Bethesda, but this will be a relatively small portion of the community.
No matter how you slice it, Bethesda will alienate some PC gamers because of this. If they continue this trend, they will alienate more and will cause more to flat out ignore their games. I'm not raging at Bethesda for this move, I'm just disappointed in them for selling out. I would prefer a simultaneous release on all platforms.
TLDR; Not everyone looks forward to being a second-rate citizen like you do so they can be a tool for their favorite developer. Good business is treating the customers that got you where you are well, or at least fairly. Selling out is selling out, and not everyone likes to be the tools of sell-outs.
@Hellswrath99 Alienating? You serious? You think people won't buy this because Xbox gets it earlier? If you are dedicated fan, you don't care how long it takes or what platform gets it first! You support the company in the decisions they make. And anyone would take this chance to earn some extra money, Microsoft knows how business works and when and where to strike. It's just good business, and no matter how much we rage in the comment sections it won't change

You're not paying for extra betas and content , you're just paying for what others get for free.
And if you want to call about dedication, well, for Skyrim, that's got to be the PC where people litterally fix some annoyances with the mods.

1 Like So glad that I didn't buy Skyrim yet, I'd go crazing buying the DLC for it. I'm just gonna sit back and wait for the GOTY edition then play the hell out of it.
It will come to other platforms, I'm playing It on PC & I don't mind waiting.
The great variety of mods have already Improved this game for me, eventual dlc will further add to this.
A beta for a DLC? Odd, although I guess they want to make sure they get it right this time, considering all the problems that plagued the timed exclusive releases of the Fallout 3 DLC on 360.
I do kind of feel left out, however, being a PS3 gamer. I don't mind the timed exclusiveness 'cuz last time it led to a fairly bug free experience when the Fallout 3 DLC made its way to the PSN, but the free part and partaking in it through a beta on 360 only leaves me a bit miffed. Ah well, hopefully the trial n' error on the 360 will lead to another smooth transition on the PS3.
3 Like @Drkr_Zen In my experience Bethesda does a terrible job making things on PS3. I would have preferred to play it on PS3 but FO3 was so buggy on that system I took it back.
