Bethesda releases Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim 1.5 update on Xbox Live with new killcam for ranged weapons; expected to hit PlayStation 3 later today.
Console versions of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be updated to version 1.5 today, Bethesda has announced. The update--which brings a killcam for projectile weapons and spells--is now live for the Xbox 360 and is expected to arrive for the PlayStation 3 later today.
On top of the new killcam feature, the update brings new kill moves and animations for melee weapons, general crash fixes and optimizations, and an "improved" visual transition when going underwater.
For the full list of tweaks included with the update, check out Bethesda's blog. The patch hit the PC version of Skyrim in late March.
Bethesda also parsed new user statistics for Skyrim today, saying the average player (across all systems) has logged 85 hours in the game. On top of this, the company said 30 percent of gamers have played more than 100 hours.
@biadesman Yep, that's fair enough. I know the official playstation mag only the gave the game 6/10 I think on release due to it's problems.. The only point I was getting at is that these threads are still full of people saying the game is broke on Sony's console, whereas since the recent updates I think the argument is quite unjust. Admittedly it did just seem that Bethesda didn't try as hard as they could have.. but still... I'm god knows how many hours into the game now and it's all fine and dandy :)
Oh and @Dredcrumb9 Just wondering, did the new PS3 update fix the water problem, if it did, that would be kind of awesome. I guess Bethesda isn't just choosing sides, which is a good thing since i have both consoles :P
@warhawk-geeby dont take it the wrong way man, I like PS3, but im just saying that Gamespot reviews told us that the PS3 version had a few bugs even before the game was actually released. It doesn't really have anything to do with PS3. Maybe Bethesda wasn't focusing on it much, I don't know for sure either.
@Dredcrumb9 Ah well fair enough, if you've tried your hardest to see what's out there then I wouldn't know what else to suggest. I agree with you to some extent, but I'd still argue that a lot of games released are worthy of the acclaim they draw. See you on another thread anyhows, enjoy your N64 :)
@warhawk-geeby there also comes a point where greedy people take over good products(goldeney remake), suck the soul out, and mass market it to people as the quality norm. Like how Bud and Coors is sold to millions as good when it's very nasty "beer". Or how nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne is sold to millions as good music when it is fake processed poop. I give many games a chance and the majority of them that come out today suck. I am not too over critical, I just know how to spot BS.
@Dredcrumb9 Each to their own and all that.. but maybe you're just a tad too critical? If you play for gameplay you'd realise that a lot of the games in the world right now are pretty damn decent. I don't think the Uncharted games were hyped up because of their seamless transition between videos and gameplay, but because they're finely polished games that are good all round. If you've played it though and don't like it then fair enough, I can't complain. But you're just starting to sound more and more like one of those 'retro' gamers that spits on everyone else because it's not like the good old days :? I absolutely love my old Megadrive to bits, Toejam and Earl, Sonic and Knuckles, GoldenAxe.. but I know there's little point residing in stagnating games when times are moving on. There's a lot to choose from out there in the world, you should give it a chance.
@warhawk-geeby real-time to cut-scene has been done to death by other games and it gets annoying. Some games can do it good like Drakes, but Drakes shouldt get so much hype over that. Maybe we have different tastes in games, but Uncharted does not deserve the hype. I play games for gameplay, not fancy cutscenes and graphics. I went t back to playing my old N64 games(Mario 64, Goldeney, Perfect Dark) and these games rape all Uncharted games. I am sorry but Uncharted sucks....well it's okay.
@Dredcrumb9 Nah to be honest when I read the first review for Drake's Fortune I wasn't utterly impressed, thought it looked a bit of a child's game. Ended up playing the demo though which came free with a magazine and realised I was majorly mistaken. The thing that makes the Uncharted series so great in my eyes is just the sheer attention to detail, the atmosphere and locations, character relationships and the way they bounce off any other, and then the stories themselves. Everything seems to be finely polished. The way gameplay flips from real-time to cut-scene and back is the best in the business, it's everything Heavy Rain tries to be. The controls can be slightly clumsy from time to time, but at the moment there's nothing else like it in the world. The Tomb Raider games became increasingly rubbish and then Uncharted was there to take the throne. I'm not one for building up unnecessary hype, but the games actually deserve it. I'm with you though in respect to this generation being generally parp, developers are trying more and more ways to make extra money but in the event just end up ruining their games. Unnecessary DLC and Multiplayer modes, and watered down mechanics to suit the casual audience. There's still a lot of great games out there though, and Starhawk next month looks set to add to that list. I'm a huge fan of that game (hence the avatar), and suggest you give it a go :)
@warhawk-geeby Gta 4, orange box, MGS4(worst metal gear but still okay) and Red Dead Redemption are the only games for PS3 that really got my attention for more than a month...but I played the crap out of them already. So besides Skyrim, I don't feel the need to ever play my ps3. I have played Uncharted and it's an okay game. gamespot and other review sites hyped up uncharted series so much it's as if they were payed to do so just to brainwash the public into thinking ps3 has an exclusive that's awesome(like they did with Halo on xbox) or maybe i just don't care for the game. KillZone is higly over-rated too. Do you really think Uncharted is that good? Or does the hype get to your head? I have become so sick of the crap games they make today, I have gone back to my Nintendo 64.
@Dredcrumb9 Heh, you do realise there's other games in the world aside from Skyrim right? You should try getting into the Uncharted games if you haven't already, probably the best reason for owning Sony's console. Fingers crossed you'll have it sorted soon anyway mate, just seems weird that some are affected and others aren't :?
@warhawk-geeby It can't be a system issue because my PS3 is one of the the newest models that came out. and I bought it brand new, just last year due to my xbox360 failing. All my friends have the same problem in Skyrim, they told me it was fixed after they deleted everything skyrim on their ps3 and started a new game. I Don't feel like spending hours getting to level 40 again. Looks like i am going back to the Nintendo 64 till Gta5 comes out... As for you and all your PS3 Skyrim owning friends, you guys are lucky.
@Dredcrumb9 @Slaphappus Seriously? Well that sucks. Of everyone I know with Skyrim I haven't heard anything bad since the old update. I got 1.5 over the weekend and played another 5 hours or so and it all seems good - killcams, water, frame-rates. Can only guess it's your model of console in that case :(
That deal with going under water and the system freezing on the ps3 is real. I didnt realize that it was because of the patch until i started seeing other people having the same problem. I have an older ps3 maybe that has something to do with it. It really sucks, some quest i cant even attempt because you have to go under water. well hopefully someone will address this
@warhawk-geeby actually you are wrong. I play skyrim on my new ps3 and it freezes anytime i jump in the water after the new patch. Don't assume everybody who is having these problems is just hating or making things up. This is a very real problem with the ps3 version of the game.
Time to actually sink endless hours playing a great game. I bought it when it first came out but got sidetracked with every other big release (and old release). Time to do a bit of Fus Do Rah!
@biadesman I've got Skyrim for my PS3 and it's probably my most-played game. Since the 1.4 update I think it's crashed once. That is all. You guys are giving it bad press for no real reason at all. Just standard haters seemingly :?
@biadesman i wish bethesda would of had the integrity to warn everyone the ps3 version is crap. I don't own a 360 and I already own Skyrim for ps3. Every time i go in the water since the kill cam update, it freezes. I was having many game breaking problems before that too.
1.4 kinda did a great job with the ps3 performance (for me at least, and it was pretty unplayable before) so right now, I'm scared to update, cause I can see this only getting worse for nothing. Now if they included that nifty mounted combat and playable dragon mounts in a patch...
i dont know how bad the game is for those playing on ps3 as i am playing on 360, and have been doing since 11.11.11 yes it was released with bugs but a game this big and as complex as it is, i fully expected bugs fortunately for me and everyone of my mates who also play none were game breaking bugs. and i think that beth have done a brilliant job in continuing to release fixes. i cant think of any other developer team support their product this much after release.
Hehe sucks to be a PS3 player, because they have a buggy Skyrim, you guys should have listened that Bethesda prefer Xbox players for Skyrim. We will also be getting DLC one month before. Btw, don't misunderstand I don't dislike the PS3, but getting Skyrim on PS3 isn't a very smart move.
@PS3BigFan You obviously did not read my post. "Could just be greatful that they are even putting this out for free. This is also Bethsedas way of saying "Oh look, we can actually ADD stuff into a game via a patch update for free without making it DLC for a console"" read it one more time back to yourself.....slowly in your case I would assume.
@ Ahpuck Thank you for understanding us PS3 players i for one love skyrim but it's hard when it dosen't love you back
YES, because it was killcams I needed in a game that's unplayable! Not to mention that melee killcams were mostly executed on x4 speed, but hey, why fix them, just bring in some new! Never fix anything should be Bethesda's motto!
strange,,,i have small problems in ps3 and i have 100 hours...i say to you again disable all the autopsaves save manually sometimes..i do the same in all the games I can save manually... and untilnow works good...
@Philly1UPer What? You call this a "DLC"! It's not like Bethesda offered a real DLC but rather they included killcam to call this a killcam update and not to mention the bugs that they're trying to fix every time. This is not a free DLC, it's a sorry letter that I won't accept. I can understand when a great company offers a real DLC for free like the Batman suit from rocksteady but not this one. For lot of gamers and especially PS3 gamers the game is unplayable, what about those? Why they should care about killcam if they can't even move their characters.
@FreakAche I understand that the killcams where added after from the team beacause they could design what they thought would be good to put in the game for the which were shown at the DICE keynote to me it just would make sense to put the killcams in to make arrows and magic a chance for one hit kills/finishing cam especially considering fallout had vats for everything not just guns (and i know they different games) I guess I just don't undersatnd the reasoning for putting killcams in for melee and not others, then adding it in later although I'm guessing it was fans/players wanting it
@Scorpion2929 I've played for about 83 hours until now and surely Skyrim is a great game. However I was talking about the update as it mostly includes fixing bugs. It's not like they're offering us a free expansion pack or a free new armor but rather a fix. I'm HardCore RPG crazy nerd and I don't really bother some bugs but the fact that Bethesda didn't really care about the PS3 version is what make me angry. They could have delayed the release few weeks or months and included all the fix in the disc already.
well load times still suck but game running pretty smooth after reinstall to fix water crash 115 hours in nice to get some free content i guess no matter how small it is
I have been playing skyrim PC version for the last 3 weeks now. I updated my ps3 version just to see if the underwater crash was real and it is. Every time my character goes underwater the game crashes. I can understand the ps3 skyrim players frustrations, Bethesda really hates you guys.
Now if only they could actually fix the marriage problem in this game. Its really dumb that I can't divorce or kill my spouse and then re-marry.
@PS3BigFan Could just be greatful that they are even putting this out for free. This is also Bethsedas way of saying "Oh look, we can actually ADD stuff into a game via a patch update for free without making it DLC for a console"
@CL4K7 what level are you on? i am on level 30 and it crashed almost every time i play it on my ps3.
As soon as i started playing the game after update was installed, I defeated a dragon. As soon as the Dragon soul was absorbed I dove into some water and the game froze(i don't have auto-save on). I have not turned the game back on since. I hope the game isn't back to it's old ways of freezing again when i turn it back on some day.
@PS3BigFan umm at my end the game ran fine and it probably holds the place for one of the best games I have played. Sure I admit there were bugs but if you care only about these bugs then you should not be playing an open world RPG.
@kwanzudood Dear god did you just DARE to mention a CoD related comment in the context of Skyrim... Someone call the nerd police
