Series creator Kurt Sutter says plans for browser-based game scrapped in favor of a "real" title for consoles, even though that "may take a while."
Those eager to see FX's violent biker drama Sons of Anarchy spun into a console game are in luck. Series creator Kurt Sutter offered an update on the project today on Twitter, saying plans for a browser-based game have been put aside in favor of a "real" game for consoles.
"[Sons of Anarchy] game update. Had a great meeting with a big distributor yesterday. Myself and everyone at FX and Fox is committed to making this happen," he said. "Yes, we definitely wanna do a real game. Console based. Not some slapcrap browser MP thing. It'll take awhile, but it's the right way to go."
The Sons of Anarchy game appears to be in a preliminary stage of development, and no firm details are available. One thing Sutter did say about the game was that the project will appeal to female players. Responding to a tweet, he said, "The [Sons of Anarchy] game will definitely appeal to women gamers as well. Nothing hotter than a girl with a controller in her hands."
Whatever form the Sons of Anarchy game does take, it is unlikely to resemble Telltale Games' new Walking Dead adventure title. Sutter said he played that game, but found it to feel "rushed and a bit unsatisfactory," suggesting it needed the help of Walking Dead executive producer Glen Mazzara.
If Sons of Anarchy existed and they got into a war with the Hells Angels, who would win? Just theoretically...
Also, I hope this game is on PC too, or I'ma be mad!!!
I'm glad they changed direction with this franchise. A browser game just doesn't do the series justice. But a console game is a much bigger under-taking. hopefully FX doesn't skimp on the funding. I don't think they're planning on paying top dollar for development, being they were considering a browser title at first. This franchise is a hot item with alot of people and has the potential to be HUUGE if done correctly. I'd rather they cancel the whole thing than release a half-baked game. This is a franchise that shouldn't be tarnished by a bad licensed game.
If they want to be true to the fans of the show, the story will have to be top notch.
Something that plays and controls similar to GTA would be perfect for this game. It's a shame Sutter doesn't have the connections to get Rockstar on the project.
Also, a good idea might be to set the game in the club's origins, with Clay and Jax's father being the central focus of the game. It would allow them to get creative with the story without having to worry about too much continuity between the game and the show.
I was thinking the same thing. The whole time I was playing "The Lost and Damned" I was thinking a similar SoA game would rock.
I would like to see it deal with a different chapter of the club and maybe have the show characters in it as plot line devices and npc's
Awesome, but this reminds me.
Anyone know the game, "Ride to Hell". I remember that game on G4, but it still hasn't released or heard from that game.
Good to hear that somebody actually wants to make a proper console/pc game, rather than a quickly thrown-together crappy broswer/social media-thing.
Great show, bad feeling about the game. Should made Rockstar make a game, after the lost and damned...they know their way around bikes.
