Sony is inviting gamers to "see the future" next month. The PlayStation maker has released a 45-second teaser video (embedded below) suggesting the company will make a significant announcement on February 20 at 6 p.m. EDT. The "PlayStation Meeting" will be taking place in New York, according to an invite sent to GameSpot by Sony.
The teaser video does not share any concrete information as to what may be divulged at the event. A previous report suggested Sony would hold an Apple-style press event in March to unveil the PlayStation 4. It is not clear if this is the same event.
Analyst consensus is that the PS4, along with the Xbox 720, will be announced in the coming months and released during the back half of this year.
Speculation about the PS4 has run rampant. Previous and unconfirmed reports suggest the system may block, or in some way inhibit, users from playing secondhand games. Still other speculation suggests the console will introduce a new controller that could feature a rear touchpad and a Share button.

ps4vsxbox720 or console vs pc, it doesnt matter. My point in this is , if I buy a console I will buy it if it is a different experience from pc. let's face it, e-sports on console is retarded. Consoles have great exclusives and are fun to play it I just dont understand why games like HALO4 are made for consoles. they would be better on pc and developers would get more money because of e-sports. and I still dont understand why Metal Gear Rising or DMC are made on pc. Im a huge fan of metal gear tough. If they make a new console make it a console experience not a PC follow up. People are raging about the future of the Wii U but I think It's something I would buy because I can't have that on my PC.
I mostly play SC2 and Battlefield 3 and they are great on pc (bf3 has a lot of problems tough)
I dont know if you guys understand but someone down there was saying that SteamBox will destroy PC gaming, it won't steam won't leave PC. And I believe it will kill consoles before PC if they continue with this Concept-less Ideas of the PS3 and Xbox, if I wanted that I would just plug a xbox gamepad on my pc and play, same thing , better graphics and performance.
Of course they won't see this or change anything but, for console developers : Be different.
I absolutely hate the beginning of each generation. Software droughts and unfulfilling launch windows, ho!
That being said, my purchase of whatever it will be is inevitable. When I'll do it is another story. Depends on exclusives, because that's all I owned my PS3 for.
I'd be excited about the future of games if it weren't so chock full of intrusive DRM and iron fisted security measures. always online monitoring, limited plays, the death of used games, and selling unfinished games for 60 bucks then selling the fix as well, cameras that read the number of friends in the room and charge more money so they can watch.

1 Like I seriously doubt they will block used games...the backlash from consumers would be catastrophic, IMO. Of course these big companies are "looking into" this kind of technology, but I think we're a long way from seeing it implemented. At least I hope lol. I think a move like that might kill a lot of the industry.
if sony blocks used games with the ps4 im boycotting the system and my next gen gaming will stop with the ps3

or effectively house hundred or thousands of pc's and npcs on a screen, each acting differently.
@DevilD2005 AC3 kinda did that , GTA IV has a couple too, but a thousand? why would u want a thousand NPC's?
no more awesome proprietary game engines like Killzone or Uncharted, Shadow of the Colossus, it's all going to be PC slop from now on. There will be good games on PS4 but Microbribe won, it's all being forced into PC development now with is pathetic. Expect bland, boring, linear games... shooter, shooters and more shooters. Console gaming is about to die thanks to Microbribe. Once they completely ruin consoles they'll quit making them and it then they'll go back to just making Windows again. I hope Apple and Android put them out of business.

3 Like @Quezakolt I'd say it's right on time. The 360 and PS3 are falling farther and farther behind compared to the same games you can get on PC. It's not just a matter of how games look to gamers. When the gap between different platforms grows too wide it becomes more difficult and more expensive for devs to port games amongst them. Having to maintain a growing list of various game engines and supplying staff to develop for them takes it's toll on everyone involved. This isn't the longest lasting console generation but it has gone the longest without interruption from next gen tech. At the alarming speed that technology is evolving we can't really afford to have gaps this big again.
The article's title has 'See the future'. Makes me think of computer or gaming glasses or something.
Reminds me so much of the Microsoft surface trailer. Who needs specs or data if we got juicy special effects and dubstep? WTF?

1 Like @prodigest A lot. PC graphics should be leaps and bounds a head of consoles but developers are making game first for consoles and porting them to the PC. The result sub-par PC graphics.

Also it's not just about graphics. More powerful consoles means more innovative options, improvements in response times, more intelligent AI, increased number of enemies on screen, etc.

@gamefreak215jd Why would games be any more expensive than what's out now? Consoles are basically playing catch-up to PC tech, which already has some amazing looking games out there. Voice acting and motion-capture aren't going to cost any more than they already do. The only additional cost comes from paying out staff the extra hours it'll take to build new gaming engines but once that foundation is laid out the hours level off too. I suspect that the PS4 will also be a lot easier to develop for than the PS3 was which will also lighten the load for everyone, so no, I don't see a price increase as inevitable.
3 Like Current gen was (is) so disheartening. Most of the great games from the previous gen didn't get a proper follow up or didn't even show up in this one. All I see are FPS being released one after another. I feels like playing the same game over and over. They care too much about graphics and not that much about gameplay and story anymore. I remember when I could play a wide variety of genres back then but now seems it's all about shooting. Not that shooting is bad ( I did like last Hitman for example) but there used to be other kinda games (we don't have a great racing since NFS in PS2 for example, good plataformers like Crash Bandicoot, a nice Role playing like last Final Fantasy games). Looking forward to have really fun games and not just cinematic graphics with no real content.

Nah there has been lots of great game released on this gen with great story lines etc, yeah the bad same old same old games out weigh the good ones, but there still has been some great ones.
4 Like didn't read the article because the future is already here.DLC bs online passes and other stupid foolishness is on the horizon.I don't care about power and graphics or even gameplay at this moment.What I care about is us consumers getting a fair price for a full game with no tacked on BS.This current Gen hasn't even maximized what Consoles can do anyway.All they did was tack on facebook, movie streaming services and motion control games.Nothing in my eyes was truly significant to the evolution of gaming.The next gen is shaping to be worse than this.If Consumers are actually going to be treated properly then I'll change my tune.But I don't see things changing anytime soon
Is it a announcement that I can get a refund on my vita or more vita games are actually coming? If its a closer look at a new ps console I may find myself a little excited but not enough to go out and buy it on launch day do to my latest launch day purchase not getting any love from you sony just saying...
4 Like I don't want to see the future at this point, not unless this draconian move against used games is dropped and out of the question. I am at the point of disenfranchising with Playstation beyond the PS3, and that is TRULY lamentable and tragic.

the only good thing about PC are the steam sales, but selling/buying used games is a MUST for me. cause today some games like NBA homecourt or the battle for middle earth 2 are fucking expansive to buy new cause they are pretty rare
With Sony heading downhill financially, I wouldn't be surprised if it was some mobile technology announcement, and them declaring that they are finished in the console market.

There will be only Microsoft PC shooter, XBROKE dumbed down shooters, and mobile iOS or Android gaming, so in essence gaming will have been destroyed by the west, much like the state of the world, the war mongering west ruining life on earth.

Nah where i'm from most have PS3'z, I have both and I play my PS3 all the time and the xbox only when a 360 exclusive is released.
But I think most Xbox users opted for it because it was the cheapest at the time and stuck by it, if they bought a PS3 with PS+ they like myself would probs turn away from the xbox.
