Sony teases PlayStation 4 reveal with Evolution video

Two-and-a-half minute video details the history and success of the original PlayStation in the run-up to the expected PlayStation 4 unveiling.
Sony has updated its site for PlayStation Meeting 2013--the February 20 New York event where the company is widely expected to formally announce the PlayStation 4--with a new video, titled PlayStation Evolution.
The two-and-a-half minute video potentially teases a new hardware announcement on February 20 by detailing the launch of the original PlayStation in 1995 and the introduction of the first DualShock controller in 1997, alongside notable titles like Crash Bandicoot, PaRappa the Rapper, and Gran Turismo.
"Recognising the power of the Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, Sony Computer Entertainment's marketing machine hit the event full force in 1995, with an aggressive marketing campaign revolving around the phrase 'You are Not Ready' in an attempt to turn the PlayStation into less of a product and more of a lifestyle," recounts the trailer.
Two different photographs of the PlayStation 4's devkit controller have surfaced in the past 24 hours, showing a front-facing touch screen, integrated speaker, headphone jack, and an illuminating light that suggests some sort of PlayStation Move integration.
The last few weeks has also seen numerous reported specification sheets for the PlayStation 4 made available online. Various rumours have said the device with have multi-user logins and will be focused more on new ways to play rather than technical power.
Sony's PlayStation Meeting will take place in New York on February 20 at 18:00 EST/15:00 PST/23:00 GMT. GameSpot will be in attendance and broadcasting the event live.

Streaming PS3 games (milking consumers stupid enough to buy the games again is more like it) and not allowing used games on the system really should push people to want to buy the system LOLOLOL

@DeViLzzz Steaming games processed on cloud server is an evolution for console gaming. Yes Sony means to gouge it's customers by charging them for games they may already own but with this advancement we may get a even bigger push towards better games then can't be processed locally being playable on the system.

Sony released the Dualshock with rumble and analog sticks a year and a half after Nintendo created the rumble pack for N64 and released their controller which was the first to have an analog stick.
Even Sega beat Sony and released their Sega Saturn 3D control pad before them.

@psx_warrior @DeViLzzz @itchyflop yeah from where we came from, i remember clearly the steps, virtua fighter on the 32x for genesis, virtua racing, mario kart on the new snes with its mode 7 turnable floor system. Yeah the polygons were unstable on ps1 but growing up from the beginning of it all, including watching tron (haha) it made u appreciate the new more powerful system i dunno about you psx_warrior but i remember getting tekken for the first time, i went and got an overdraft because they were throwing out £40 free if you had one, i wanted that game so bad. Then the 2nd arrived and was 100 times better, wipeout with its audio cd play in y0uor car, oh wait there its a game too. Motorhead, so many great memories this could make a very interesting conversation. My one regret is chopping my ps1 in for a dreamcast (another great system).
@psx_warrior My brother had it and it looked like dog crap and it hurt the eyes and thus I did not buy it. I had other video game systems that truly were much easier on the eyes.
@DeViLzzz @soulless4now I just want confirmation on the used game issue. All hell will break loose with that one.
5 Like Playstation did not officially launch until the release of Final Fantasy 7.... This one game made the playstation what is is today.... without this game it would have been a Sega Saturn... Nintendo was super dumb by not catering to squaresoft during that time.
1 Like It was planned for the Nintendo64 but the cartridges didn't have enough room to hold it all, so they moved to the less expensive PlayStation.

First Squarenix switched Final Fantasy Seven from N64 to the Playstation because Sony offered to publish Final Fantasy Seven if it was made exclusive to the Playstation.
Second Nintendo didnt try to cater to Squarenix because Zelda and Mario were saling better and Nintendo felt its first party titles were enough.
The Sega Saturn sold less then one third the N64, I dont think it would have dominated when Nintendo competing.
The Playstation was mostly known for being the console with adult content as for the lack of adult rated games one Nintendo 64 and Sega Saturn you can thank the US congress for that.
It was actually being developed for the N64 DD but because Nintendo was taking too long to launch the add-on they moved development over to the PlayStation.

@DBZ19 @oOhedzOo @TimeFrame I still have the DS2, and yes its size is identical to the DS3. but their weigh is almost the same too. The Sixaxis is the one that's too light, and it feels little uncomfortable.

@oOhedzOo I think the 360 controller is more comfortable but PS3 still has the better games. Also in my opinion the DualShock 2 is the best controller.
@oOhedzOo I don't like the ps3 controller, definitely think the xbox360 is made for actual people with normal size hands..

1 Like @speedracer3190 @oOhedzOo In my experience, I get hand aches and fatigue whenever I play a game using the Xbox360 controller ,and that wasn't the case when I used to use the ps2 controller. I don't know if it's just me or something is wrong with how I was holding the controller.
I hope controllers will be more convenient in the coming days.

10 Like Good Times back in the day...compared to today's money grubbing gaming industry with their "pay now, get it later" season pass schemes.
Making nostalgia a part of your campaign is smart, especially if you consider how much of the core gamer market has switched to Xbox. However they should have played this card lastgen. Xbox is entering its third generation which gives the brand almost as much seniority as Playstation. Microsoft can now make a similar video showing us gaming in 2002 with Halo, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, KOTOR and all the other great memories.
1 Like @ronnet I'd agree if the lifespan of the ps1 was 2 years long, but its lifespan alone mostly covers how long both the xbox and 360 lasted.
Plus, talking about games like Halo being ancient classics just feels wrong.

4 Like I refuse to touch this thing until they prove their worth. With the exception of the blue ray player and uncharted. The PS3 was a massive disapointment for me compared to PC and Xbox releases.

On the Xbox side, Gears of War series, Halo series, Forza series, PGR, Dance Central series, Naruto Rise of A Ninja and Naruto The Broken Bond, numerous Kinect games, Alan Wake and Witcher 2 (PC+X360), Dust: An Elysian Tale, Blue Dragon,Tales of Vesperia, Crackdown series, Too Human, Ace Combat 6, The Idolmaster series, Infinite Undiscovery, Ninety-Nine Nights series Lost Oydessy, Fable series, Dead or Alive 4.
Iam still missing some XBLA titles but as you can see , PS3 has the biggest and the most exclusives.
I own both consoles and am not a fanboy.

@jchristenberry I agree. The operating system is the biggest fail. Endless updates, most of which are for updating the core OS, patches? Xbox normally has an OS update every 6 months and for the most part it is something of use like an addon or dash upgrade.
With that said, something feels different about Sony at the moment, and even that vid is strange. They are paying homage to their first console, back then is was all about gaming for gamers, none of this casual bullshit.... something tells me I may very well like the new PS4.
In contrasts, Microsoft needs to get its fucking act together because as of late I'm getting sick of their bullshit.... Kinect is selling really well? GTFO, and that statement last week about the PS4 not getting world wide attention....please give me a break!
