Sony's rumoured PlayStation 4 reveal event will be live-streamed

Sony confirms gamers will be able to watch February 20 PlayStation Meeting event live online.
Sony's PlayStation Meeting on February 20 --where the company is inviting gamers to "see the future" and, presumably, the first glimpse of the PlayStation 4-- will be live-streamed over the Internet, Sony has confirmed to GameSpot.
More information about watching the stream live will be made available in the coming days. The PlayStation Meeting will take place in New York on February 20 at 18:00 EST/15:00 PST/23:00 GMT. GameSpot will be in attendance.
Previous rumours have said Sony and Microsoft would seek Apple-style reveals for their next-gen consoles. Apple announcements are usually private events rarely streamed in public, though the company did broadcast its most recent announcement of the iPad Mini.
The most recent PlayStation 4 rumours have said that the controller will feature both a dedicated Share button and a PS Vita-style touchpad. Last week GameSpot's Mark Walton stacked what is believed to be the PlayStation 4 components against the PC.

It will be 0:00 where I live, but there is no way I will be missing it. Sony will embarass itself if they don't show PS4 and at least a few games for it. I know PS3 is still awesome, but I myself want a new generation console.

1 Like Can't wait. One things bugs me though: Didn't Sony say something about the PS3 that it will be the focus for Sony for another x years? I can't remember the exact words. On the other hand, this was before all the leaked information about the presumed dev kit leaks.

@carolino Acutally what they said is "Why go first when you can let your competitors go first and not tip your hand." We all assumed that "competitor" referred to Microsoft. IF Feb 20th does turn out to be a PS4 announcement, then they could have been referring to Nintendo as their comp.

The controller will sense your every thought and come with a 4th dimensional being to assist you in the gaming excellence to ensue. I'll admit I'm going to be crushed if it's not a PS4 reveal... The games coming in March-May I'm hoping are the last hoorah of this gen. Then we can roll right into next gen glory.
4 Like I've never had more than 1 console per gen, I could have afforded all of them plus a PC but didn't wanna spend all my time playing so many games so I've been all about the Xbox and 360 for the last 13 years but I'm definitely over the online fee that microsoft has been forcing onto ppl and the Sony exclusives are a great incentive. I just hope Sony can make a console that's more dev friendly so I won't have to go through the problems the PS3 has with ports and multiplat games.
@Humdinger80 totally see where you're coming from, I think Sony learned their lesson with custom advanced architecture and went with off the shelf components for the PS4. Although its still heavily optimized, developers will have a much easier PC like experience building tools and creating for the PS4.

This is most important to me, I don't even mind the apparent jankyness of the PSN I'm not that big of an online player anyway so if the PS4 is more "dev friendly" I'll definitely be jumping ship.
@Humdinger80 I'd still rather pay for the superior online experience that Xbox offers. Until it's between "pay for good online" and "don't pay for good online" I'm still on MS' side. I don't want free games, I want the PSN service to get better. + is cool if you want free games, and even cooler if you like the ol' bait and switch, but for people like me waiting for the PS platform to finally get a comparable online feature set and the same quality XBL Gold offers it's kind of a bummer.
@MordeaniisChaos @Humdinger80 I've been fine with microsoft and the xbox but since the my first 360 at launch, I've gone through 4 360's and have renewed my gold every year since then so feel I've given them enough of my money and have been happy to do so but I just feel like a change I guess. It also seems to me that the games I want to play are multiplatform anyway and don't care for xbox exclusives which are all FPS, but have always been curious about Sonys which are not great games by review standards other than the Uncharted series but almost always interesting and different.

PSN is free. There is no bait or switch.
You can pay for PS+ and get free shit if you want but multiplayer is free; web browsers; free youtube's free; some of the games are temporarily free and discounted, sony sees it literally, like a plus. MS thinks of it like a subscription fee, like WoW, which is a huge mistake and very un-consumer friendly.
I couldn't play spartan ops with out live. End of discussion.

I think it comes down to the American method and logic for development and hardware v.s. the Japanese way and school of thought. Little things like organization and priorities get moved around a ton from culture to culture, specifically in big dev pipelines for huge pieces of tech like a console.
Neither are really right, it's just that stuff get's lost in translation especially context which is so key to understanding comp-langs and developing for something a little foreign.
I don't know if I can get excited with a new PlayStation I got the ps3 mainly for the blue ray drive. Hopefully they can surprise me with something remarkable.
Hmm.....live streamed....which means I can probably watch it on Xbox Live 's web browser, hehe. As long as it is on HTML5.
Please Sony, just stay away from all the gimmicky social stuff and touchscreen pads. Please.
