Spider-Man Edge of Time ticking down to October 4

Comic-Con 2011: Activision confirms Beenox-developed action adventure will arrive this fall on 360, PS3, Wii, 3DS.

SAN DIEGO--Spider-Man: Edge of Time now has a firm date that it is ticking toward. As part of Activision's preview event tonight, the publisher said its latest installment in its webslinging action adventure franchise will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, and 3DS on October 4.

With Activision-owned studio Beenox now the primary developer on the Spider-Man franchise, Edge of Time spans multiple iterations of the Marvel-created universe--namely, the contemporary Amazing Spider-Man universe and that of Spider-Man 2099. The latter is based on a 1992 comic series, which introduced an alternate-future version of Spider-Man. The Spider-Man 2099 series was scripted by famed Marvel writer Peter David, who is also penning the plot for Edge of Time.

Spider-Man: Edge of Time will task players with saving the life of Peter Parker in the modern-day Spider-Man universe in order to prevent an errant timeline from creating a bleak, apocalyptic future. The game will feature "cause-and-effect" gameplay, where one Spider-Man's actions will affect the other Spider-Man's timeline.

With Comic-Con 2011 setting up shop in San Diego this week, Activision has released a new trailer for the game, which can be found below. For more information, check out GameSpot's previous coverage of Spider-Man: Edge of Time.

man, where's my free roam sandbox mode.....ugh GTA4 city + Spiderman + Arkham Asylum combat = Epic Spidey game

I'm a fan of Spider-Man and Batman; aside from the games, I hope their next movies are great.

Lately the Spider Man games have been.....off.But I have high hopes for this one.It seems to have a clear idea where it wants to go,and it's focused on that. @ Crazyguy105 Where did you get that avatar picture!?!?!?!?! I must know!GS didn't have any Portal avatars when I signed up,and none of my pictures fit the dimensions.

As much as I want to defend Shattered Dimensions, it did suffer from plenty of problems. I have a feeling Edge of Time won't be any different.

Why is the Spiderman games going down these roads....i used to love the games where you would swing like a maniac and sear through the air, with NY at your desposal....now thats spidey games!

Interesting story, good voice acting, good graphics. I can only think of one thing that would make this game better. FREE ROAM!!

Probably a 5.0~6.5. Games like these are small time, unless they're done by a good company (Arkham Asylum)

This looks cool, although I remain skeptical. It would be pretty damn sweet if Spider-Man finally got a game as great as Arkham Asylum.

Geez, October 4th! That's the same release date as Dark Souls. Why are there so many games coming out so close (or at the same time) together? Either way, I'd rather get Dark Souls

I hope its good but for me nothing has ever bested the comic styled iterations made by Neversoft on the PS1. Spiderman 1 and Spiderman 2 : Enter Electro.

spiderman is doing the chrono formula, first traveling through dimensions (crono cross) and now through time (crono trigger)
