After six years in development, the long-awaited postapocalyptic PC shooter is finally headed to the factory. THQ exec Kelly Flock speaks.
No, your eyes aren't deceiving you. As the headline above indicates, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl has indeed gone gold. The announcement was made this evening by THQ executive vice president Kelly Flock at the company's Gamers' Day event, which is currently being held at a nightclub location in San Francisco's SoMa district.
It's been six years since Ukrainian developer GSC Game World first announced S.T.A.L.K.E.R., then called Oblivion Lost. In the intervening half-decade-plus, the game has alternatively tantalized PC gamers with its lush visuals and frustrated them with its frequent delays. GameSpot's previous coverage highlights both the ups and downs of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s long road to retail.
Tonight, Flock--speaking to a crowd of about 100 journalists--said S.T.A.L.K.E.R. will "ship in March," and online retailers are listing it as having a March 20 release. The game is rated M for Mature (blood and gore, intense violence, strong language, use of alcohol), and will retail for $39.99.
got it pre-ordered, I have been waiting for this game since it was announced... its about bloody time!!!
I bet this game sucks! lol and there be no DX10! i wil buy it just becase i feel sorry for the poor sods making it for six years (good bless um) its a good job the publisher THQ.
I hope this comes to consoles, it sounds really interesting. Could it be another great shooter ? What a year is seems to be so far ! Cool !
hopefully THQ is nice enough and will be able to introduce a dx10 patch for us high-end system people. They're doing it for Company of Heroes, so who knows. but remember, its not always about graphics, but more about gameplay.
I've been following all the news on this game and despite all you haters out there who have just now first heard about the game and are complaining about it just shut up. The game took six years to make because of the unique A.I. and world environment. This game has pissed me off because of the delays but when it does come out it will be all worth it.
Why is it not out for the 360?!?! It's been in development on the PC for 6 years! They barely scraped it together for that system!
Hope it plays on real world PC's as I don't intend to upgrade for PC games anymore! Love the next gen consoles!
Jugué la demo MP y los gráficos están bastante buenos, no nos olvidemos que es muy vieja. Espero que el juego sea mejor. Half Life 2, simplemente lo mejor. Walter(ARG).
Game sounds really interesting and concept is actually quite brave. But I'm surprised it's actually coming before DNF :P
Can't wait for the demo. I want to play the demo first before I buy the game. But I think it is good!
This looks like a quality game in my eyes. I'm not too worried that it isnt sporting DX10. I bet it will run like a champ on most peoples computers... We will be in gaming "heaven" (or would it be hell?) come the 20th!
Does anybody know what features have been cut from this game? Driving, Resting, Eating and Drinking Vodka to remove radiation, all of these things have been removed apparently.
GameStar has already given the game a 9/10, saying it's "the most atmospheric FPS ever." I can't wait, I'm pre-ordering it tomorrow.
I really really want to see this. Are they planning a demo? I don't want to rush into buying this just incase it is a flop.
thq is an awesome publisher. you always no that there games will be fun. I like th idea of the game but i seriously don't like the idea of multipalyer. it sounds to uncompetitive. i'll see after i buy
Unfortunately for GSC, anything short being the best game since HL2 will be a failure. This thing has to be unbelievable.
For you guys who are being pessimist asses about it looking crap etc, several reviews are already out, the lowest score it has recieved yet is 85% in UK PCZone, it has recieved several 90%s, from a german magazine and a few others! This game will rock if you're not a total graphicswhore, and besides the graphics ARE great, I'm in the MP beta so I know ;)
