Prequel to THQ and GSC's creepy postapocalyptic shooter due on PCs next year.
A second S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky will be mutating onto PCs at the beginning of next year.
Clear Sky will take place a year before the events of the first game, which took place in 2011. In it, a group of people who call themselves S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s (for Scavengers, Trespassers, Adventurers, Loners, Killers, Explorers, and Robbers) has breached the heart of the Zone--the Chernobyl Power Plant itself--for the first time. The Zone has become unstable, and the amount of anomalous activity is off the board. The main character is a mercenary who plays a key role in the events that led up to the start of the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game. The developer, GSC Game World, promises that the title will explain many of the unresolved mysteries of the first--including how Strelok ended up in the death truck, and why the Zone changed.
The original S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl was released in March 2007. The atmospheric first-person shooter was set in the radioactive city of Chernobyl, as the gamer fought a variety of hideously mutated creatures lurking in the postapocalyptic nuclear wasteland. Developed by Ukrainian company GSC Game World, the game took place in an alternative reality, where a second nuclear leak happened at the plant.
Clear Sky promises to be as atmospheric as the first title and to allow gamers to explore new parts of the Zone, including Red Forest, Limansk, and the Pripyat Undergrounds. The game will also have a new animation engine, improved artificial intelligence, and a new upgrade system for weapons and armor.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky will be coming to PC in the first quarter of 2008. GameSpot will bring you more details on the title as they become available.
Good to hear, admittedly the last game had a few bugs, but so do other games, as the saying goes nothings perfect. but the main part of the first one was its unique feel and good ideas, i hope the sequel will have more new ideas and a few more twists. hell even if it doesnt i still got a large area and stuff to kill, and that enough to keep me happy
I kinda liked the first part and i had been following it for some time. To me the main flaws of the first parts was: - Lots of bugs (caused game or whole comp to crash) - They had to cut on what was supposed to be implemented which kinda took from the original concept of this game letting you do stuff really freely But all in all a great game. The athmosphere was usually great. Especially all those monster/zombies in the labs and underground facilities, changing daytime etc. Lots of nice things to this game. I hope this new part is going to polish the first ones flaws and add more into the game itself.
yeah i'm sure hoping that direct x 10 crap will make it better. maybe some destructable environments this time?
Gee sounds like they are going to implement things that were supposed to be in the first STALKER... I'll probablly buy it but I'm still burnt about the rushed hackjob they did on the original :(
I don`t care if the original game had bugs.I love the gameplay and the story was powerful.I can`t wait to play the Clear Sky.Everybody should look at the story, and not every time in visualization.
mmm enjoyed the rough alpha code that was the finnished game the game had great atmosphere , full of glitches mind and some bad story structure its a shame they dont do a console version cause it would be cleaned up ! as for the next installment who knows i'll wait and see.
pff, i hope its not like the first, bad gameplay small areas you cant go wherever you want, annoyuing, no action, boring, so, we are gonna wait more, or its gonna be an expansion!
Cool, hopefully it won't be delayed over and over and over again like the first one was, and by the way Gamespot, good title for this story.. Creative :) lol
well i thought the first stalker was pretty sweet, and i complain about just about everything :) That having been said, who cares if they keep pushing their dates back? The more time a company has to work on ANY computer game the better. They certainly have a hard time fixing problems that show up once a game is out, so let em have as long as they need to get it right the first time :P
Maybe you could you know... RELEASE IT ON THE 360! Why didn't you do that last time? I mean, it isn't like Crysis? This game doesn't look as good as crysis. Jesus christ. Cool, but I don't care unless it could work on my PC or it comes to 360.
hells yeah!!! cant let a game like that just vanish!! and all u stalker haters geta grip on or go and play ur halo!!!
Bah, the first game was a disapointment for me. So , as we say in romania , sa-mi suga pula GSC shi sa le ard mamele la fofoloanka , wich means that i don't wanna hear about STALKER anymore.
Considering how long the first one just kept getting DELAYED and DELAYED (and delayed) I wonder how long this one will be delayed too. First quarter 08? Who wants to start taking bets that doesn't happen?
Geez, SPOILER WARNING! C'mon now. But really, will the prequel explain why I should care about the first game? :D
I wish GS left the Stalker 1 spoilers out of the preview. For people who hadent fiished the game yet........
Playing the first one and reckon I will be able to get this in about a year, based on how much I am enjoying it!
Excellent, two more patches on the way for Stalker (one of which will add freeplay:)) and then stalker 2... cool. The screenshots for Clear Sky looks great!
Stalker is a sweet game I'm stoked about the news of a follow-up. Let's just hope it doesn't take another 7 years to make ^_^
am i the only one that wants them to fix the first game before they even think doing anything else... also who thinks this one will take 7 years to come out....
Yeah I was slightly let down by STALKER, as it wasn't all that it was made up to be. However it was still a damn good game, and the lighting effects in it were amazing. I look forward to how they improve upon the first one.
Awesome can't wait for this to come out! The first one was really good but it was marred by things like left out features and some bugs and glitches, hopefully they make this one as complete as possible without delaying it, and hopefully without cutting anything.
Interesting the the AI will be improved--for the most part, it was some of the best/believable AI I've seen. Of course, when they way it's coming early next year...LOL...we'll see.
STALKER was crap :( I was expecting so much and all I got was a broken game. A great idea, but that won't save a game that is just plain rubbish. Can't say I'm expecting much out of this...
remember people, when we got stalker we only got about 40% of the game that GCS had hoped to bring us--this is probably the other 60%--lets hope we have some DX10 this time round--i agree with the comments about the game engine looking slightly dated-but one thing stalker did better than any other FPS was LIGHTING-i too felt a little dissapointed with stalker, but hopefully this time they will get things right
YES ! I can't wait for Clear Skies, and while im waiting for it i'll be playing crysis. And sweet, customization on wepons and armor !
this game looks and plays dated hopefully they will be able to make it feel like a next gen title rather than a bigger version of a early 2000 game!
