still hard to say ive played a free to play game i really i liked, and once you figure out the whole 'pay to win' model, how many more free to play games does one really find himself wanting to play knowing exactly what to expect in each?
Star Trek dev unveils free-to-play shooter Warframe

Digital Extremes at work on new PVE sci-fi shooter due this winter on PC; beta test set to commence this fall.
Digital Extremes is keeping busy. On top of building 2013's Star Trek, the company is also at work on a new PC free-to-play shooter called Warframe, the Canadian outfit has announced. Due out this winter, Warframe is a science fiction PVE shooter set in an "evolving world."
"We've heard for years now that PC gaming is dead. It isn't dead; it just went underground for a few years and is now re-emerging with this massively growing free-to-play market that has matured to the point where the quality of games we're seeing rivals many AAA retail games," Digital Extremes CEO James Schmalz said.
Gamers interested in Warframe can register today at the project's website for a slot in the shooter's beta-testing period, slated to commence this fall. Those who register will score a free prelaunch weapon. Further details on Warframe's beta period will be announced this summer.
Digital Extremes chief creative director Steve Sinclair explained that Warframe was a shelved concept that the studio "kept coming back to." He said a free-to-play business model for the game will allow the studio to "take risks" and build it alongside players based on their feedback. Digital Extremes' current project, Star Trek, was recently delayed to 2013. It is an action adventure that features Kirk and Spock in an original story penned by God of War writer Marianne Krawczyk. Set after the events of J.J. Abrams' 2009 film Star Trek, the game has the Enterprise officers teaming up to stop the plans of a powerful enemy pursuing galactic domination.
Digital Extremes' past work includes this year's The Darkness II, the PC version of last year's first-person shooter Homefront, and the multiplayer component of 2010's BioShock 2.

I quite liked Dark Sector. Although it was a little irritating every time the main protagonist crumbled to his knees and and began to whine about how he couldn't possibly succeed :P
OK so thats what that happed to the "Dark Sector" game I was waiting 4 and very excited to play.......
this IS a concept improved upon the FIRST DARK SECTOR trailer that was AWESOME! the game latter turned out to be nothing like the first trailer exept for similarities on the protagonist armour.

that being said, THAT game would've ROCK! unfortunately it never was.. and since this is becoming a FTP shooter, I guess the story won't care and all that beauty of concepts will be wasted AGAIN! oh man.. it brings me tears... really
@idosofacility I knew I recognized that armor from somewhere! But that tech demo wasn't awesome, at least I didn't think so. And there was some cheap fun to be had with Dark Sector, even with the clunky mechanics and uninteresting plot. But I'm one of those people who doesn't care about plot or story if I'm enjoying playing the actual game, story is a huge plus if it's done well but it's not a necessity. I'll be following Warframe.
Stop saying "F2P rivals AAA games." Name one F2P game that, within its F2P boundary, rivals a specific AAA title.
Which AAA title are you comparing it to? You only have to list the one example you think is most relevant.
I am not too familiar with TF2. Besides team-based competitive FPS mode, what else does the game offer? Which AAA title do you feel TF2 surpasses?
Hey, it's another free to play game with a real developer behind it. Score one for real free to play games... it's got a long way to go. Taiwan releases over a thousand of them per year.
1 Like Key is going to be to make it free to play but not pay to win. A Team Fortress 2 model might work well. Also would like if I could play by myself. Seems all these F2P shooters are co-op only. I really don't want single player to go away. There has to be ways to make fun SP F2P games.
looks really good especialy interestig since it is co-op and I can play with my friends this game but...... that is the teaser and did its work will the gameplay do its???

Aesthetically similar to Dark Sector, even the armour and powers look very similar. It might be fun, Dark Sector had its moments.
1 Like If they will take the Team Fortress model this may be good.The teaser looks kinda cool.But there are too many ftp games already.With more this segment might just collapse.
