Steve Jobs movie opens in April

Film starring Ashton Kutcher as iconic Apple designer arriving in three months as "jOBS."

The upcoming Steve Jobs film starring Ashton Kutcher (Two and a Half Men, The Butterfly Effect) as the famous Apple designer will be released this April, movie makers Open Road Films and Five Star Feature films announced today, as reported by CNET.

The film, to be released as jOBS, will chronicle Jobs' life from 1971 through 2000. It will detail Jobs' founding of Apple, his departure from the company, the formation of NeXT and Pixar, and his subsequent return to Apple.

jOBS will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah later this month. In addition to Kutcher playing the role of Jobs, the film also stars Matthew Modine (Full Metal Jacket, The Dark Knight Rises) as ex-Apple CEO John Sculley and Josh Gad (Love and Other Drugs, 21) as Apple cofounder Steve Wozniak.

Newsroom and West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin is also working on a Steve Jobs film. This movie will reportedly play out in three 30-minute acts, each taking place behind the curtains at three of Apple's major product launches: the first Macintosh computer, the NeXT computer, and the iPod.

Come on, I mean, looking at that picture of "Jobs." That's Ashton Kutcher appealing to his lady friends. Disgusting.

Jobs should not be degraded to Ashton Kutcher. Jobs made a massive contribution to technology, and I spit in the guy's face who thinks Kutcher (an entity spawned with no personality and character) can represent Steve Jobs.

@SOKOLEK You also forgot that he destroyed the music industry and gave the illusion to many people that throwing their works on internet people would stop pirating(which actually only increased piracy, and the number of people who don't want to pay the original), also he endangered the jobs of people that worked on physical products.

He could had launched the system as an option, but instead launched a heavy competitive system market, and we are suffering the consequences till today(mass consumerism, mass alienation).

The only thing he did to technology and entertainment industry was the strength that was given to the indie worker(in all areas) that's all.

@Sohereiam @SOKOLEK Jobs was good for only one thing: selling crap that didn't belong to him and taking credit for it.  That all he ever did.  Remember, it was the Woz that created the Apple computer, not Jobs.

I'm not a fan of Kutcher, but you can't deny that he looks JUST like Jobs!

Now I appreciate Jobs and everything, but I feel this movie is a bit disrespectful. Are they actually making the movie in recognition of Jobs' many achievements or are they just trying to cash in on his name? I feel suspicious of movies of this type.

I won't watch the movie for the simple fact that Kutcher is on it. The guy's eyesore and unbelievably boring.

To the uneducated people posting below who don't even know the first thing about Jobs and his life's contribution to the modern tech lifestyle you "take for granted" today - wake up! This guy was there at the start of the personal computing era along with Bill Gates and co. If all you ever bothered to learn about Jobs was by reading the sourpuss remarks of other uneducated haters you really need to do "yourself" a favour and do some learning.

There will be films about Gates and Jobs because these guys are pioneers and entrepreneurs in the field of personal computing. If you "personally" don't like their companies or their products that in now way de-values their contributions.

Show some respect... and while you're at it get a life too.

@damo320 The one that needs to start learning is you.  Go read some unbiased material and get back to me on that. Jobs didn't create anything, and you would be wise to learn that.  He is just the Ronald McDonald of apple.

Ashton Kutcher is the perfect choice just like Steve Jobs he is a self-centred, self involved, egotistical nob head who only takes credit for what others have done in the past. Just like kutcher has done with Two and a Half men.

As others are saying, some more harshly, Jobs was no angel, and I have to agree that he really didn't create much at all other than money.  However this is typical, maybe moreso in North American society, that the CEO of a company is accredited with any and all successes, creations, etc. from that company.

On the loss aspect, well I can't feel for the loss, I'm sorry.  People I don't know are dying all the time, and I dont feel for them.  The loss to society overall, I dont know how to feel about that either, especially if you consider what I said above.  It seems odd to me that I should  weep for the loss of a person whose primary success in life seems to have been making a lot of money, I don't see much beyond that.  I'm sure he was involved in all sorts of charities and such, but really most of the extremely wealthy are, and very few of them make contributions that are very generous when compared with their wealth.

Really people let's be honest, all the attention surrounding him is just an extension of the incredible recent success of Apple's mobile devices, popular noise.

@hystavito i absolutely agree with you. Ever since Apple started getting popular again with the "iProducts" everyone seems to think this man was an angel sent from the heavens. He was a liar, a cheat, and a typical business man. Nothing more, nothing less.

As long as they include the negative aspects of him.  I heard that when something wouldn't go his way (regarding the company) or if his employees weren't performing up to par he'd flip out on them.  I want to see a few scenes of this.

I just don't want the movie to try and portray him as some god or something without showing the full person.

Oh the simpletons of the internet how little I am shocked. The stupids that keep asking what this has to do with gaming forgets that the Steve's pretty much invented what you game on. Here is a little fact for the 95% 12 year old Gamespot demographic. He didn't just create the ipod.

gothicman
gothicman like.author.displayName 1 Like

@WingChopMasta Actually, game consoles existed way before Apple.  Go look up the Magnavox Odyssey. So the only "stupids" I see here are the one praising apple for their "innovation".

@gothicman @WingChopMasta

Oh boy, you got me. I forgot that PC gamers are playing on hardware built by Magnavox. I guess I am stupid and have no idea what I am talking about and if you think UI and OS computing is not an innovation then, again, you solidify my claim of stupids and child like demography on this website.

@WingChopMasta You don't need to be 12 years old to not know about or care about Apple...
