Team Ico's latest Sony-exclusive action adventure heads to the PS3 late next year; new trailer inside.
Team Ico's The Last Guardian picked up more than just a swanky new trailer at this year's Tokyo Game Show. Having previously indicated that the title would make an appearance at this year's Japan event, Sony has announced that The Last Guardian will be available for the PlayStation 3 during the holiday 2011 release window.
The Last Guardian has been a long time coming, as it was first hinted at in late 2005. It was initially expected at the 2008 Tokyo Game Show, and a rough version of the reveal trailer surfaced in May 2009. However, besides a few screenshots, details on The Last Guardian's gameplay mechanics and story have largely remained shrouded in mystery.
The new trailer for The Last Guardian (below) goes some way in alleviating this dearth of information. In it, a Neverending Story-like camaraderie is exhibited between a young boy and his giant, feathered canine-esque companion. The trailer also shows the boy navigating a variety of familiar environmental puzzles, such as navigating precarious rafters, pushing a large wooden structure to a desired area, and climbing a giant chain.
The Last Guardian is the latest from Team Ico, which built its reputation on PlayStation 2 exclusives Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. Also at TGS 2010, Team Ico director Fumito Ueda confirmed that those two titles will be rereleased in a single package for the PS3. The collection will see both Ico and Shadow of the Colossus receiving an HD makeover, as well as full 3D support. Notably, Ico will feature the European ending rather than the US ending.
The Team Ico Collection is expected to arrive in spring 2011.

I was hoping to pick it up this year as well, but, if they need another year to finish it in a satisfying manner, I am willing. What does 'holiday 2011' mean? Easter? The Summer holidays? Xmas? If it's the latter then I'm fuming. It's about the only game I'm really looking forward to and I've been putting off buying a PS3 until it was released and they had initially said release would be November this year! Blinkin' flip! I bought a PS2 just to play SotC and Ico. I guess I'm going to wait another year. But what if I died before then? Have they no consideration for the fragility of life?
I have been waiting so long with little tiny updates like this, I have a feeling this is a very tiny studio. Oh well, will be a fantastic game regardless.

With how many "incomplete" games have been released this generation, I'm pleased whenever I hear about a game delay. It means they are going to actually finish it before releasing it.
Let's just hope they don't pull an alan wake after 5 years in development release several dlc missions right after launch

Team Ico will strike hard next year. TLG will be a huge success, while their HD-3D classics remake will show the world how games should be done. PS3 hardware sales will skyrocket in 2011. Mark my words.
when ico was out the lighting, shadow , trees, water & its environment was breathtaking. i never thought that the ps2 was capable of delivering such great graphics. Up until I played Shadow of the Colossus, it was the best game experience I've ever played on any platform. I can still remember vividly the flying monster, the giant turtle and the humongous ending Colossus. I bet Last Guardian will have even more over the top gameplay. A must have for ps3 owners - killer app no.3 is on my list!!

Finally! A new action-adventure series introduced to the PS3.... That isn't rated E for everyone.
*spoiler* At the end the boy pays a fine after new leash laws are instituted and does community service cleaning up the Colossal poop it left all over the land. Can't wait for this game. But I will.
when Sony published games delayed, they become better. let them use their time to make better, polished games.

I'm a 360 fan and I'd rather watch this so bite me...I can't wait for this and the Team ICO HD Collection I got both on my PS2 but as we all know HD trumps PS2.
LOL @ Sony giving a studio nearly SIX YEARS to produce a game. At least Sony can't be faulted for putting a lot of trust and more importantly money into a studio that produced ambitiously creative games that have hit a cult following but not enjoyed widespread financial success.
