Tom Hardy to star in Splinter Cell movie

Inception and The Dark Knight Rises actor to play Sam Fisher in Ubisoft's upcoming film adaptation.
Tom Hardy's next role is Sam Fisher. Variety reports today that the Inception and The Dark Knight Rises actor has been cast as the lead role in Ubisoft's upcoming Splinter Cell film adaptation.
The film has been in the works since 2006 and remains unassociated with a studio. The site states that Ubisoft has held preliminary talks with Warner Bros. and Paramount, though it is not clear if either outfit is pursuing the project.
Eric Warren Singer (The International) is writing the film's script, though no director or other actors have been announced for the project.
Hardy is the second high-profile actor Ubisoft has signed to one of its upcoming films. He follows Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds, Shame), who will play the lead role in the forthcoming Assassin's Creed motion picture.
Splinter Cell: Blacklist is the next entry in Ubisoft's long-running stealth-action series. It is due out next year for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. For more on that game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

1 Like To be fair a movie such as Splinter Cell has a better chance of being a good blockbuster. I mean its one of these games thats not out of hte realms of possibiltiy , covert operations , political turmoil and a good dose of betrayal and backstabbing is that not pretty much just the same as a jason bourne movie or any other action , war movie?The only difference is we already know the splinter cell story is pretty solid and we already know its done well in the game, so transferring something similar to the big screen should not be that hard a mission. Something like assasins creed or the decent prince of persia is harder, both hold elements of extra ordinary content be it a time travellign dagger or a animus machine etc.. and thus make it harder to beleive in a movie , splinter cell on the other hand has no such elements to get over and i hope will be a great movie. Also Tom hardy is a machine and seeing him break a few peoples necks and smash some palces up is always a laugh.
Since the prince of persia;sands of time series was turned into a movie which was OK but a major disappointment to fans, the next POP game failed to follow the success of it predecessors. Best of luck to Ubisoft in their movie endeavors, I hope for the best, their shorts in AC and Ghost Reacon was awesome for a game studio. I say let us give them a chance since they are going to be tied up in their movie deals as the deciding creative contributor.

Ubisoft makes great games, but when it comes to real life (movie) situations they are a major fuck-up. Stick to games. Movies can never be like Games. A game is an experience and you will only tarnish the experience by playing with our minds trying to instill the images of the actors who does not fit the profile of the character we absolutely LOVED!!!! Stop thinking money and save the characters. We do not need films we need more IP and gamers way.
And personally I wouldn't think of it as a game flim but a Tom Clancy novel turned into film, like Clear and Present danger. As I'm a big fan of Tom Clancy's literary work and his games.
Splinter Cell isn't a Tom Clancy novel though. He had minimal involvement with the series and primarily allowed the use of his name. He thought the tri-focal goggles were silly as well
People tend to confuse or lose the point of make a movie I dont blame them even those who are in the business scrw it specially when theu dont even take time to know the film is based in a particular ip or concept created for the movie. In this case splinter cell sam fisher already has a face it has a look they need to respect this there are many actors who can fit much better than Hardy. Just look the marvel movies on comparrison to DC ok iys mot a fair cpsn but you catch the idea
@BloomerNYC Can you blame them? Whens the last good film based on a video game you remember watching? But I see your point looking at the comments people are more worried what the actor looks like, and not if he can act.

@Trickymaster I thought the same thing, for one he is freaking huge, come on he did play as Bane. But nowadays who knows what they will make him do. Tobey Maguire had to lose a ton of weight when he was cast for Brothers. He looked sickly compared to when he is at hs average weight.
1 Like well physically, George Clooney resembles Sam the most. especially on the Chaos Theory cover. I can't really imagine Hardy as Sam either though..
@ryancyc Clooney DID resemble Fisher once, earlier in his career. But he has not for a while. Clooney has aged faster than Sam, he looks TOO old now and people have been banding round this comparison for so long that they haven't realized that he doesn't resemble him any more.
o man nice. I was trying to think of the best actor for Fisher and George Clooney would work so well. Haha wow I'm soo impressed for some reason.

Let's see how this turns out.
If they are so desperate to turn games into movies at least ask gamers who they want as main actor that will at least satisfy some of the game fans if not all of them, even if the damn movie fails(which will 99%) will not be a total disaster.
@Veronity I kinda don't agree. Fans wanted the guy from Castle to play Nathan Drake and while he does look like him a little, check out the trailer for Total Recall with Colin Farrel. When they have him strapped into the machine he seriously looks like Nathan Drake and I think would play him better.
@Veronity They shouldn't let us have to much say... remember the Mass Effect 3 mess? And securing an actor these days sounds like an ordeal. Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender are great actors, Ubisoft did the right thing hiring those two for their movies. And imho, Ubisoft has always made quality games, I'd imagine their movies will be the same.

Another idea theft. Don't the ubisoft developers have any sense of creativity?! Do they always have to steal Kojima's ideas?! I'm glad, this guy was simply too fat to star as solid snake anyway.

5 Like I don't understand why are they promoting Tom Hardy this much. He is literarly in every major movie. Same thing was happening with Christian Bale a while ago. I mean WTF? They are good actors and all, but I'm getting tired of watching the same faces all over again.

But why should fans of the diversity of ip which their true and original source came from comics, games, novels books. etc. should suffer experience or accept how this ashls desfigurate tear appart scrw the original source by putting actors that have nothing in common to the role or character that is important for the people who feed those who create something and paid for yhe products. For me that case was with the last Batman film. I dont care if Hardy is a good actor je does not represent the original Bane to anyone who can be considerated a fan of Batman.
I see what you're trying to say, but I must disagree about the movies. I'll go a little bit off topic to explain this. You see, I am a huge Batman fan, and like that I expect everything about him (games, movies and stuff) with great criticism. Because I grew up in a small town where we didn't have superhero comics (there was only stuff like Captain Mark, Blake the Rock, Zagor etc.) the only way I found out about Batman is through Tim Burton's movies, and later, the Animated series.Even though Tim Burton's first movie wasn't the same as comics (which I found out later) I still love it to this day, and that's the original Batman to me.
Now, the way I see it is that these movies are just another variation of Batman universe: Tim Burton's represent Batman in unique, dark world; Cristopher Nolan tried to represent him more modern and realistic (as you already know, there are so may universes for one character in comics, so that the creators could keep fans interested). As you don't accept "new movie Bane", the same goes for me for some other representations of other heroes and Batman too.
on topic: I also think that Sam Fisher should be played by some older actor, in his late 40s or early 50s.

He gets a lot of work because he's a brilliant actor. But I still agree, he's becoming overexposed. I think Tom maybe should take a break for a little bit before taking another role. I'm sure he's got plenty of money by now.
