Tyranny of George Washington DLC hits Assassin's Creed III in February

First episode of three-part series--The Infamy--comes to Xbox 360, PS3, and PC February 19; free for Season Pass owners, $10 otherwise.
Assassin's Creed III's three-part Tyranny of George Washington expansion will begin February 19. That's when the first episode--The Infamy--launches for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, Ubisoft announced today. The content will be available as a free download for those who hold a $30 Season Pass and will be $10 otherwise.
The content can also be purchased at GameStop and Best Buy, Ubisoft said.
In the first episode, protagonist Connor is woken from a dream to find that a new king has been crowned: George Washington.
The Infamy will focus on Connor's early efforts to dethrone the malevolent king. Two additional chapters will follow at a later date.
Notably, the launch of The Tyranny of George Washington comes just one day after Presidents Day in the United States, which is a federal holiday in the US and honors George Washington.
The Tyranny of George Washington--and all other Assassin's Creed III expansion packs--will be available for the Wii U version. However, Ubisoft did not provide a release schedule.

1 Like I haven't even finished the original AC3 story yet... There's something about this game that keeps me away from playing it...
1 Like @Yuna08 It's just not quite as fun until you beat and, once the whole world opens up to you. Then it finally feels like assassin's creed, but better in my opinion. Until that point, there are some really cool moments, but it's nonetheless disapointingly linear.

I loved the AC series. It was awesome to play around in those times and stuff. I didn't care that it was historically correct because it's a GAME. Besides, it's much more fun to bend history and add things that were completely opposite. I would like to see how this plays out if he were a dictator (In Ubisoft's eyes at least :p )

So, if an author writes some fictionalized story about the Native Americans, I guess you would get upset as well, right? Somehow I doubt that you really would. Because that is where Connor's story comes from: an alternative historical fantasy.
Some people seem to think anyone that even mentions our founders are somehow anti-american. Well, a lot of people, parties, and sides in many conflicts have, so I guess we all "demonize" America.

Wow that's absolutely outrageous. I held off buying the season pass because I don't play the multi thought I'd be able to get just the single player DLC for less than $30. I guess not, and I guess I won't be buying this.
The history student in me is crying. But then again, it's been pretty ridiculous all along. Ever since Ezio and his merry men, those historical figures who were actually assassins, with leo as the tech geek. Sure.
A strange departure for the Assassin's Creed series. I find it's always at it's best when it's closest to reality. I'll be skipping this.
1 Like The main problem here is that it's gone from pseudo-historic themes to pure fantasy... I thought the intent was to ultimately have the series converge with recent history and modern era events, not comic book territory.
@Pyrosa I was thinking a past interview with devs made it sound like an alternate AC timeline, so it isn't canon.
1 Like What if's are the same as parallel universes in Sci-fi and therefore have no boundries. Sure he may have had his good points and bad points (not my favorite historic character because of the whole native debacle) but if there is a parallel universe, none of us can know if George Washington was a really nasty piece of work over there. Watch Fringe, Star Trek or any other Sci-fi dealing in Parallels and what ifs. When it comes down to this kind of narative, all bets are off.

people just have pride in their country, i see nothing wrong with that. Especially since the popular alternative these days is self loathing, america is a terrible country, etc. Strange how that only happens in America, most every country has boundless amounts of pride among it's citizens, even if it's not justified, or they are all living in horrible conditions, they still stand firm in their pride...not us though, why do you think that is? :)

1 Like It would've made a lot more sense to make GW a bad guy as a Templar in disguise. The Templars are not stupid, they know how to control people without a king. The best way to control the populace would be to install one of their own as President. The people would be thrilled to have a President and not a King.
I have zero objection to GW being bad, and yes I'm an American. To me it's a great twist with a "history is written by the victors!" vibe but I think it's silly that's he actually a King and not just first President like in the history books.
I'm much more offended by the price point.
1 Like while assassin's creed is a scifi, i liked how they tried to stay accurate to historical events without major alternates. I don't mind the idea of GW being a bad dude, but a total "what if" alternate history cartoonish scenario is kind of a disconnect from this series, its not what assassin creed has been about. Which is why i'm not likely to give this dlc a chance.

it's enough that the "extra" missions on the "exclusive" ps3 were disappointing (Especially the benadict arnold missions)

14 Like Not buying this purely because of the title. George Washington was an intelligent and great man who turned DOWN becoming a king. He was pretty humble too. I don't care if it is a what if or not. It's pathetic.
