@corrus Microsoft - 66 Million Sold With no Blu Ray Player for people to make a split decision about. Sony - Games Division down for the 6th consecutive year in a row real "quality" that no is buying. Keep in mind sony is hiding all sales figures and instead labels their headlines with "shipped" etc. And yes microsoft is about making money sony is trying but can't this generation.
MCV cites "third-party publishing sources" in reporting Microsoft, Sony rolling out new consoles at this summer's trade show; Wii U launch details to be confirmed at geek gathering.
It's a certainty that Microsoft and Sony have successors to their current consoles planned. However, the timetable for each company to reveal its new console has long been in question. Today, a new report at UK-based industry site MCV indicates Microsoft and Sony will unveil new consoles at the 2012 Electronic Entertainment Expo, which runs June 5-7.
This report isn't the first mention of an Xbox 360 successor being unveiled at E3 2012. Over the past year, two separate reports indicated that Microsoft was readying the next Xbox for a reveal at the Los Angeles trade show. The latest rumor puts the Xbox 360 follow-up as hitting holiday 2012.
As for the PlayStation 4 being unveiled at E3 2012, today's rumor is the first mention of such a reveal window. However, the system itself is no surprise, as since the PS3 first launched, Sony has stated it had plans for a PS4. And a November rumor suggested that software development for that system was ramping up, with one Sony-owned studio shifting entirely to work on the new, not-yet-announced system.
In addition to next-generation news concerning Microsoft and Sony, MCV's sources noted that launch details for Nintendo's still-mysterious Wii U will be provided at E3 2012. Nintendo has previously said it will have final Wii U hardware ready for E3 2012.
A Sony representative told GameSpot, "We don't comment on rumors or speculation." And as of press time, Microsoft had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.
@pokemonblackftw some of the best games EVER MADE? WTF ARE U TALKING ABOUT ? I can count on one hand how many games on Wii are worth playing. Ready? Here we go. Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 . And Smash bros. That's it. Nothing else is worth playing. Go look at the Xbox 360 Library and I'll show you some great games as for "best games ever made " Super NES has that undisputed title for consoles and since then Nintendo doesn't have a clue how to run their company. Look at the decline of hardware and software sales from Nintendo products since 2000 the only thing that kept them alive this long is the Hand-held market which is now over saturated. If you want a history lesson I can provide one because clearly you don't know what you are talking about . N64 survived primarily because RareWare didn't join Sony the way all the other developers jumped on ps1 primarily because Nintendo refused to use Compat Discs at the time. And if notice after N64 all the their other systems have sucked in comparison to any Microsoft or Sony Product. FACTS
When the XBOX 360 and PlayStation 3 were announced, I thought "I'm still having plenty of fun with my XBOX and PlayStation 2...why do I need to upgrade now?" Then I actually started playing games on those newer systems and there was no turning back. I'm sure I'll feel similarly whenever new consoles are released.
I'm kinda on the fence for new consoles; Yes: I want consoles to finally catch up to my PC who is a year old and still has hardware 5 years ahead of the current generation and laughs at the Playstation360, and companies will be making games with better graphics now that what's keeping the industry behind in graphics is gone and my PC can use everything inside of it to its fullest potential. No: I don't want graphics to get ahead because PC gaming is expensive and I don't want games to be outdoing my PC and I'll have to buy another $2000 rig, and to those of you wondering why I just don't buy a console, it's because I prefer PC gaming, IN MY OPINION it's better. And to those of you thinking the new consoles' hardware is going to be OMGAMAZING no it isn't. Top of the line graphics cards are 500 bucks alone, and my rig I bought has one of the best graphics cards and a quad core and was 1500$, so my guess is that next gen consoles (the PS4 and 720) will probably have 1-1.5 gb graphics cards and (maybe) quad core processors, if this is the case, then I'm all for the new consoles, and they'll cost around 1000 dollars? Or whatever consoles cost on release, but making affordable hardware is not easy, and next gen consoles will not outdo current ones by gaping chasms.
@tfkrocks you're correct its an awful console with more than 90% of its game library in a bargain bin b4 player's choice.
@Ansem_Rev No. I was robbed. And I've called the police. If only I had your foresight, I would have avoided this traumatic experience. Why didn't you tell me!? WHY?! I blame you!
Take a look at this new photorealistic tech demo I just found! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dh9uWYaiP3s This is how good the graphics may look in the PS4 and XBOX 720!
@BoabDreeps Nintendo didn't rob you of anything . You bought a bad console the end. I knew it was a gimmick driven Console from the start if you cant identify that its your fault not Nintendos.
Got pretty strong opinions on Nintendo, especially after they robbed me of my hard earned cash and left me with a gimmick driven excuse for a gaming console. It got shelved after 2 weeks and I went out and got myself an xbox. I don't think I'm unique in my experience, so I don't think the WiiU is going to enjoy the same success as the Wii did. As for the 'casual gamers' that bought in to the Wii...they are 'casual gamers' and won't find the need to buy a new console. Parents who don't have spoilt kids will tell them to make do with their Wii. And fat chicks will continue to ignore their balance boards. But the serious gamers will rob their parents to get the new xbox/PS.
not surprised wii u will be shown in final form at e3.the next xbox and ps4 wont release this year.id say at least fall 2013 for the xbox but 2014 for ps4
OMG, they're developing another console? And here I thought that they were gonna drop that multi million revenue nonsense now and never ever think about picking it up again. Gee, this is as extraordinary and earth shattering as rumors of Infinity Ward developing another Call of Duty.
It'll be interesting to see what comes of this at E3 and what I'll be able to get my hands on at Gamescom. While I would like a PS4 announcement, I still think it is too early. Maybe 2014 but not this year and I am not 100% sure next year either
@JaxxRaxor You really think Microsoft and Sony are even remotely afraid of Nintendo? Maybe if this was 1991 but seriously, Nintendo is just catching up to those two when it comes to specs. Nintendo is still catering to the same crowd that enjoy gimmick gaming and not to the core. The core isn't going to want to play games that are just decent on huge pad. I'll agree that Sony and Microsoft may be moving on to the next gen because they see the other about to but it doesn't mean its a good idea. Look at what happened to the Sega Dreamcast. It was smart of Sony to wait for XBOX 360 and Wii to come out first to observe the competition and improve on their weaknesses. If Sony is smart, they'd do the same thing this time around...
@Double_Wide At least for Sony and Microsoft I agree. Both systems are doing well enough as it is. But I guess both companies fear that the Wii U will take off and start taking a lot of the market share of the 8th generation of consoles. Plus Sony and Microsoft are eying each other and want to one up the other as both of their systems will likely be at least somewhat more powerful than the Wii U, so to showcase the consoles this year in preparation for 2013 launches seems plausible to me.
Personally I don't think its time yet. This gen's console still have a lot of gas in their tanks and have plenty to offer...but hey if PS4 has full backward compatibility (not like that Slim crap) then I'm down.
as long as the devs can EASILY transition designing from this gen's hard/software structure to the next. . Otherwise the game quality, time to release and the number of devs willing to make the jump earlier will suffer. .
If hand held games are $30, Wii games are $50, and nex gen titles are $60... Are we looking forward to a $70-80 price tag?!?!?!? You guys (Sony and Microsoft) need to wait for this country to get a bit better before you start rollin out the next gen. I dont think the majority here is ready for it anyway.
I'll be getting the new consoles...just not anywhere close to launch day. May as well let the buggies and glitchies and all the little techno-gremlins surface first :)
Probably because Nintendo didn't attempt to put the hardware that PS3 and XBOX 360 has in a small case. Pretty sure its a lot easier to produce a trouble free console when use medicore hardware specs. Nintendo doesn't use top of the line specs, look at their history.
I never heard about nintendo hardware getting trouble in the start, like ps3 and xbox, with heating problems. I so luck my Zephyr never had rrod, and my ps3 is slim. Wii U , can t wait for you.
for all of you who want to see what the PS4 is going to look like, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5m0QDLIDJ94 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6f1IN56ouY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szCe8dBJ4R4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kt8RY7DuG-g http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuWuTc5agVA Most of those are old (up to 3 years), so just think of what we can do in the PS4. I'm sick of everyone saying that they don't want to see the PS4. it's not like we are going to have a small upgrade, or something. We are going to have gameplay like never before. open-worlds, with real-time destruction like that of Red Faction and minecraft. Don't you want to see that?
So by the time PS4 and Xbox 720 arrive, we'll have the Wii U - but will the Wii U be able to compete graphically with the other two? Are we going to have a Nintendo system showing generation old graphics again? If so, it's a shame. I know as well as anyone else that graphics aren't everything, but they are still important and I think it's a shame to see Nintendo being consistently behind, when I'm used to seeing them take a step ahead....
For $800, the PS4 will be teleported to your living room from the future! But you'll have to play the games with a 20 year old style controller.
Microsoft yes. Sony no. There's my prediction. Microsoft have been working on the 720 for a while, rumours have been spilling out almost weekly and even the staff members working on each department have been announced. As for Sony it's all been hush hush. Plus with such a strong line-up already showing for this year I think any news of the PS4 is highly unlikely. Next year I think, same pattern as the current gen.
I'm think it's too early for sony for showing their latest consoles. What if the new PS4 does makes the game devs easier to developing a games or just being end up as a garbage when a machine fitted with fancy high-tech functions but making it too difficult to use it. But at least, this PS4 should revive that OtherOS function, so the hacker and these gangs would doesn't need to crack the machine anymore and also it would be comfortable for some game devs for easy game development.
The way Xbox can get around not having blu ray is to become digital only. digital purchases with possible cloud storage...
as long as they released in 2013 or after then am good,i just got me a new 360 250HDD slim so i want some milage out of it before i even consider xbox3, as for the ps3/ps4 well the ps3 ship have sailed for me its too late for me to get it so am waiting for the ps4 with backwards compatability as i would like to go back and get the great awesome ps3 exclusives that i have missed\
Playstation 4 will undoubtedly run in the 5th Dimension with Demos only morons actually believe are gameplay and its games will have amazing new features such as Real Time Weapon Change and you can enjoy AMAZING backwards compatibility such as RIDGE RACER!!!!!!!!! ALL THIS for the LOW price of $699.99
@MrHanky35 True, but I doubt it. There wouldn't be that much of a leap in terms of fidelity, or graphics. The Sony games, whether it be for the PS2, or PS1, were converted to HD, and I don't see them improving current 360 games by a wide margin. Now if they did it to sell them to people who don't already have those select 360 games then I agree. That would be a shame though. I guess I can always just keep on playing my 360, or keep it hooked up, it's just I would rather not have as many video game systems hooked up If I could help it. My tv is mounted on the wall and hiding the wires is tedious. PS3, Cable box, and 360, which is 3 HDMI cords cover fine, but I don't want to have much more. lol
@godzillavskong i wouldnt be surprised if the next xbox wasnt B/C, not because it cant be as cliffyboy sez, but more because like sony did with the ps3, they want to sell more games virtually.
im currently happy with the current line up. the only system that can really stand to be improved is the wiis graphics. other then that they should focus more on improving gaming services
@cliffyboy21 Uh ..ok, doesn't the PS3 play DVDs while supporting a HD format like Bluray? What makes you think Microsoft couldn't introduce a next gen format that could also play DVDS? Or maybe they could just go with Bluray? It's not out of the question, so I assume it very well may be b/c.
@xboxgameman I'm trying to get the logic, your Gamertag suggests you like, or game on Xbox, but your post seems to be negative, or assume that Microsoft's next console will be unreliable. I'm sure they won't have a issue like they did with the initial batch of Xbox 360s'. They were burnt bad by that and a big company like Microsoft would more than likely spend lots of R&D to assure that it doesn't happen again.
I think I will keep my Xbox 360 a little longer. My Wii does need to be upgraded to Wii U, I think I played my Wii for a long time now. I might look into something Sony related, but unlikely for now.
Im a big sony fan, sorry xbox people, if they do come out i would get the PS4, i just hope it will be backwards compatible, if its not then no point in getting it, i also wonder if they would restart the whole playstation network and make us redo our accounts and create new ones. But if they make ps4 just like a kinect type of system with no controllers or anything like that, then im not getting it either and just gonna stay with PS3
I hope the new xbox is more quite every time i wake up early and try to sneak on to the xbox it wakes everybody up.
