Why would I want to be distracted with crap on a tablet while I'm trying to watch a movie or play a game? This is one of those things that MS spent millions on and maybe 5% of their user base cares about. Kinda like IE 10, or Windows 8.

Xbox SmartGlass will launch this week and will be available on Windows 8 and RT PCs, Windows Phone 8, iOS, and Android devices.
Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that it would be bringing the Xbox entertainment experience to tablets, PCs, and phones. Titled SmartGlass, the new update will be launched this Friday, October 26, on Windows 8 and Windows RT.
SmartGlass will live on mobile devices as an app, allowing users to access their 360 content from several mobile devices.
The technology will also include a feature that Microsoft is dubbing "multi-screen entertainment," allowing gamers to enhance their gaming experience by integrating their mobile devices as they play games on the Xbox 360.
SmartGlass will be free for download on Windows 8 and RT PCs, Windows Phone 8, iOS, and Android devices. The following games and partners have confirmed Xbox SmartGlass integration:

Dance Central 3
Forza Horizon
Halo Waypoint
Home Run Stars
Karaoke
Kinect Sesame Street TV
Prima Games.

With the new Microsoft Surface you will be able to see everything on your tablet on the TV, kind of like the Apple TV. While watching a movie on the Xbox you will get info and extra content on your tablet, it´s not only for playing games and seeing differente menus.
SmartGlass, or if you translate it incorrectly to Swedish and then back to English it becomes Intelligent Icecream, which sounds much more interesting than whatever Microsoft could offer.
2 Like I think we should wait and see what functionality it brings before calling it useless. I hope it has XBL Rewards integrated into it as well, which would make life easier getting free MS points.

I thought this was going to be an accessory like Kinect? I guess they realized it would fail and made it an app instead.

The whole point of Smart Glass is that it works with devices you already have, so it was always going to be an app.
wow this is the same thing ps3 is doing with their ps vitas, EVERYBODY loves to copy nintendo. Its pretty obvious the competition has absolutely no creativity of their own .. Nintendo is going win the next gen for sure!!

Nintendo will always be one gen behind. i mean how long did Nintendo take to finally get a console in which you can play the games available for years in the Xbox and PS3? next year Xbox and Sony will lunch their consoles and once again Nintendo will not be able to run the same games as it will be obsolete by then. Talking about gameplay... The Wii was revolutionary I give you that, but Kinect took a giant dump on it.
@xxYetterxx so what ?? the shape of the controller is universal anybody can use it but its not their main controller so who gives a damn really lol its a secondary option just like the wii remotes. Actually By 2014 the wii u will long be accepted and have plenty of games to keep occupied, then we all have front row seats to see sony and microsoft tear each others throat out and then go to sleep lol

Not even remotely. An iPad has a CPU and GPU SoC inside of it. The Wii controller is just a controller; all the processing is done on the console. The iPad doesn't have buttons, so it basically sucks for playing games.
The entire point of the console is to bring DS-style game innovation to the home console, so of course it has "DS features." It also has features the DS doesn't have.
I sure hope someone makes a synth app for the Wii U along the lines of DS-10. Heck, you could even use the TV screen as a visualization screen while editing the music on the tablet controller as it's playing. Fark, that would be awesome. You could DJ a party with a Wii U. The controller would be perfect for a "game" like that.
Yeah, it's so unoriginal. Because there are so many other controllers out there exactly like it. Not.
awww a little hater around the corner nit picking at the gamepad, I havent heard any complaints from developers so far and all very good reviews playing with it, your just a useless idiot who realizes the lame attempts from both competitors to combat the wii U , I know truth always hurts. you remind of feces and garbage mixed together smh
@cesarexec22 You do know neither MS nor Sony don't give a rat's ass about the Wii U, right? Especially because Nintendo's new platform has got a lot to prove once it launches later this year. Keeping the momentum of their consoles to ensure a smooth transition from this gen to the next has been their focus since last year, and that's doubly true for Sony, with the PS3 and the Vita, which is still trying to catch some breath from a very bumpy start.
2 Like @cesarexec22 well to give some credit, Microsoft did announce that they were going to have a "360" like experience between your phone console and pc a few years ago. I would assume this is what they are talking about.

Basically they were talking about Live integration with Windows and Windows Phone and how your GamerTag and stuff carry across Microsoft platforms.

hmmm not much support yet. I've seen the app in the Windows Store on Windows 8, but haven't download...well.. because I currently don't own a 360.
I am curious to see how much SmartGlass on Xbox can do in comparison to the Nintendo Gamepad for Wii U.

Was hoping it would be a part of the dash beta, but nope. Looking forward to seeing it in action Friday.
2 Like I've been looking forward to this. Although it's just the start of what the SmartGlass can actually do. Controlling the xbox with a mobile device has been around for about 2 years already with the Xbox Companion. I believe SmartGlass will be much more interactive, not just for games but for TV shows, music, movies, etc.
Let it never be said that Microsoft never gave anything for free.
It's no Wii U but it's a cool add on that doesn't make you buy an extra product.
I have an Xbox360 and an Android phone so i'll give it a try.
I don't have any of those games but it might be neat to see what they do with it.
Can't argue free.

3 Like @Vickman178 I really don't think it's to combat the Wii. SmartGlass will eventually do a lot more than just work with games. Think about it as interactive TV using any mobile device (or desktop device) for the interaction.
