I just got a Nintendo 3DS XL Yellow Pikachu Edition and it is great! Im so happy i got it!
I would recommend it to all of u! Buy a Nintendo 3DS or 3DS XL!
The 3D stereoscopic is great, much better than i expected it to be!
I'd prefer a 3DS XL but I'd happy to just get the original 3DS. In my opinion it looks sick! Plus it already has the charging dock and Circle Pad Pro. Either way, I'd be having a smile 5 times the size of the Joker's if I unwrap a 3DS on the 25th.
Can anyone tell me if i was playing using the 3DS XL with an old DS game like Pokemon Pearl or something. Does it make the game get a lot of pixels and make it look sh*tty?
I ask this becasue i am thinking about upgrading from a DSi and i need to know if the old DS games still look okay or are they really bad. I dont really intend on using the 3D function on the 3DS XL but i would like an upgrade to be able to play the newer games on 3DS as well as enjoy the old DS games still.
Please anyone playing old DS games on their new 3DS XL let me know.
1 Like @GH05T-666 it looks a little stretched out but really its not a big deal at all. I prefer the larger screen for alot of stylus intensive games, like LOZ Sprit tracks.
@tachsniper thank you for letting me know, i just wasn't sure if it stretched it to much, i have never seen one playing or used one to play a ds game. i will defiantly be getting a DSXL now.
Good job in such a fast update on an only year old product. I'll wait for the 3DS XLi to come out before getting one.
Oh, who am I kidding - I'll just keep my Iphone for actual portable gaming.
@Sevenizz You're missing out on some great, great games. Not to say that there isn't anything good on the iPhone, mind.
@Sevenizz My 3DS broke in just slightly less than a year. It was covered by warranty, but i suspect a plot...

I'd say there will be a new Nintendo handheld after this one.
It was nice of you guys to let that homeless man come into the studio, smoke a huge bag of weed and then do a 3DS comparison. Seriously, it's helping the needy that's missing from most good hardware reviews nowadays, and using a completely stoned guy off the street is a bold move.
Criminal!! No second analog stick!!! What were they thinking, damn it makes me angry especially when there trying to combat money losses. JESUS! I'd for sure buy a vita if it had Mario and 3D.
@jch123 Its not that big a deal considering most of the games will likely use the stylus as their main point of control anyway like the Ds.This is why they have the 20 dollar add on analog stick for it and its actually quite comfortable...dont see the big deal..
@marich7 just sell it on ebay as new if u still have the box and everything and u will get a lot more money for it then get the 3ds if u must have it. im sure the 3ds is fine though
never trade games in to gamestop, u get nothing for them. sell them on ebay
1 Like @GH05T-666 that's actually a great idea but I was just passing on the news of that offer. Just as you said the 3ds is fine. I never spend more than 1-2 hours on it at a time anyway so I'm good on battery life. Thanks for the suggestion though. I will keep that in mind whenever I start to sell off more games.
Right now most of my handheld gaming is done on the Vita. So I'm selling my 3DS Sunday and picking up an XL. I'm hoping this might cause me to pick up Nintendo's handheld a bit more often. I've also heard that the 3D effect works better simply because of the larger screen size. Something about a larger viewing zone for the 3D.
I would sell my current 3DS (bought it last summer for full price), and grab the XL. But not having that second analog stick really brings down the value. I'm not sure why nintendo couldn't have added a second analog stick (circle whatever). Now if I ever get some extra money and my current 3DS breaks, sure I'll grab the XL.
@khalddrog the reason why they didn't add it was because they would have had to make it bigger...
Good impression on the 3DS XL. Haven't heard anyone else mention anything about the SD card slot, just a nifty detail.
Why wouldnt nintendo make this come with a charger? Every portal device these days no matter what it is come with chargers. That just blows my mind....
How much would a charger be? Also what batteries does this need?
lol bro I did research, Thats how I found this info out. I actually assumed it did come with one, but then found out it didnt, then found out again that US/Aus version comes with a charger

kinda interesting the device has no branding whatsoever on the lid. unlike an apple product which everywhere you see the apple logo. so no one on the train would necessarily know you were holding a 3DS. i mean im not in marketing or anything but that seems like gaff move. i remember when everyone first got ipods and there were white headphones everywhere. just seems weird it doesn't say Nintendo on the back.
kid icarus looks horific on the 3ds xl u can see every pixel and makes the game look like crap online. but the upside to that is the game is more comfortable and no hand cramping
@TRAVISTOUCHD0WN That makes no sense. The game looks the exact same offline as it does online.
I had asked Seb to put forward the suggestion of checking the frame rates of the two devices. Since the 3DSXL model had a slower frame rate than the standard model in Nintendo's advert running New Super Mario Bros 2 (3DS). I guess that never made it into this video.
The whole pixel issue. I know it wouldn't be too much of a problem with the 3DS titles, but I can see it being an issue with the normal DS games. This could be a let down. Gonna stick it out with the Ps Vita a little longer. See if anything good comes out for that, before I consider going back to a DS or 3DSXL, since I sold my original off, because Nintendo took a really slow run to get good games out. Sony is having the same issue, but the tease of Little Big Planet has kept me in there. :D
@Kos1c I think the economy has everything to do with why Sony and Nintendo havent made more games for their systems on launch.I think to buffer the costs They are depending on the Ds and psp installed base of games to hold gamers over until they trickle new games for Vita and 3ds.
But the economy has hit 3rd parties even harder than the big 3. This is a major reason more games havent been out on these systems yet, they dont want to take the financial risk on an unproven system. Its safer to just keep putting out games on existing systems. Over time hopefully this will change.
@IanNottinghamX Yeah, I completely understand and 100% agree with you. Luckily the Ps Vita is getting some love and some major titles were hinted at, and rumoured to come out (Assassin's Creed, Cod, Little Big Planet, 2K rumored Border Lands 2 possibility, Phantasy Star online 2 etc). In time these consoles will take off. But it's just that first year, they really hold back, and people begin to loose interest. That was the sole reason I sold of the 3DS, a little while after Resident Evil, no games coming out soon enough to make me want to keep it. The Ps vita on the other hand, I love the pure power of it, and can't wait for one of my favourite games to release (little big planet).
@Kos1c It's just a video -- the two systems have the same processing power. If it was actually slower, chances are the game wouldn't be skipping frames, it would just be moving slower, but it's not something that a console manufacturer would even consider doing.

You'll notice it a few times. Other videos haven't shown any issues. But this one video really caught my attention to what is going on.
@GrantHeaslip I'll take your word on it. I'm pretty sleepy as well so not really got much time to think about it during each yawn. It's almost 5am. >_<Just checked a few comparison videos on youtube, and they all seem to run smoothly. So it's just gotta be that bad recording from Nintendo.
@Kos1c You'll have to trust me on this one -- the screen could be the size of a billboard and it wouldn't require any more processing power to run. A pixel is a pixel. I bet the XL has more-or-less exactly the same chips as the original.
@GrantHeaslip I'm not a complete tech wiz. I know the resolution is the same from both devices. But with a console and a TV they aren't the same as the Nintendo 3DS. Mainly because they are both independent devices, while the 3DS has to manage running everything of it's processor.
@Kos1c It's got the same resolution (number of pixels). The screen size has no bearing on how much power it takes to run, just like how consoles don't run slower on bigger TVs.
@GrantHeaslip Yeah, I agree with you. It may just been an issue with the video, or early release comparison video of the two devices. If they kept the same processing power it could just be that the screen size could be the issue with it. But I'm not sure. I would have to see the handheld in person, it could be as you said part of that one recording.
@Kos1c I see it, but it must have just been an oversight in video production. It would be insane to release a new 3DS with less processing power -- no console manufacturer would be that stupid. I'm 99.9% sure of this.
