The Historical Venice of Assassin's Creed 2
The first Assassin's Creed game was a history student's dream come true. Here was a game that brought the political intrigue and daily life of the crusades period to life, and let players have a role in shaping events that actually happened. Sure, we have to forget all of that science fiction stuff, as well as the fact that Jerusalem, Acre and Damascus are more than a 5-minute horse ride apart from each other. There have to be some concessions made to gameplay, after all. But for the attention paid to its atmosphere, storyline, and characters, the team at Ubisoft should be commended for bringing historical realism into gaming like never before.

New AC movie rumors & Altair costume in MGS4

AHh, a small update... but atleast it's an update eh? The AC news has dried up like you wouldn't believe. So whenever a little tidbit comes out we're ready to jot it down!

First off N4G is reporting that an Assassin's Creed Movie is very possible and possibly being discussed as we speak.

Also, remember that video released on April fools day featuring what looking like Altair in the game Metal Gear Solid 4? Well, it turns our that it wasn't just a sick joke, instead, Konami has confirmed that Altair's costume will be an unlockable within the game. Hella kewl no?

Metal Creed Solid 4: Assassin's of the Patriots?

In short, it's a new gameplay video of MGS4 but... it feature's Altair???

Fans of the highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid 4 are salivating at any bit of information or footage they can obtain regarding the title, especially since Kojima andd his team underwent a media shut down a while back.

Now it appears Kojima has "re-emerged" to show off some new gameplay footage but with a twist. Apparently Kojima has a fond appreciation of the game Assassin's Creed and the video below shows us some new MGS 4 gameplay with an Assassin's Creed twist.

Although no official word has come through way of Sony or Kojima Productions, it is an interesting video and is completely believable as Kojima has done this before. He has integrated characters from the Ape Escape and Rumble Roses universes in the Metal Gear Solid series, as well as lending Snake's likeness to the folks over at Nintendo for Super Smash Bros.

Sure I know, it's April Fools day and all, but it's original as hell and it's very kewl if there was some fact to it.

Watch it Here.

Rumor: Raymond already knee deep in AC2?

Earlier gamedaily interviewed Yves Guilemot of Ubisoft and asked what his thoughts of the reviews of AC and as to what the AC team - including Raymond and Desilets - were up to now; to which he replied:

"We have never received as many compliments from gamers as we did for Assassin's Creed. Some might dislike certain aspects of the game, but it undoubtedly brought a radically fresh and innovative take to the adventure genre. This game shows that our industry has reached a new level, and I'm not really surprised that it gets polarized critics, just as a strong movie would. As you know, such a success with a totally new IP which took so many risks in order to redefine the genre is unprecedented.

Jade Raymond and Patrice Desilets and the entire Assassin's Creed development team did an excellent job to create the game.

I view Jade as a very skilled and creative producer, the success of Assassin's Creed leaves no doubt about that and the attention she received from the media is due to the anticipation, buzz and quality of the game. She's currently working on a new project but it's a little too early to share more about it."

Which can go either way. It's either A) Shes hard at work directing/producting the sequel to Assassin's Creed or she's headstrong in another ambitious project.

The Assassin's Hide Silently

Ahh, the Assassin's sneak around in the darkness, unseen as we all spin around, not knowing when an attack will slam us to the ground. I'm speaking of course about the abrupt end of new news from Ubisoft about anything Assassin's Creed.

Generally AC has recived great reviews on teh PS3 and 360 while the DS version seems to lack behind at mediocre scores and the PC version is yet to be released. For anyone not in the know, the PC version is dubbed "The Director's Edition" and will include bonus missions and such content for making PC owners wait so long to play as Desmond and Altair. Suppose to drop in March 2008, most media outlets seem to list it as an early April 2008 release. I know a number of you are eager to get your hands on the PC version and I can't blame you. I own it for the PS3 and I still want the PC version .

No new news about any other Assassin's Creed related media what so ever hitting the internet these days. No news on a sequel, no news on the supposed short CG films that Ubisoft was set to make and no news of a possible full length theatre film release either (which were big rumors a few months ago).

Instead, Silence. Total silence from Ubisoft these days as we all go on with out lives. Of course the union and board have suffered as topics to discuss dry up without the Ubisoft Hose dispusing the fluid to it's survival. But we stand at the ready Ubisoft, we're ready for AC2 info and anything you've got to throw at us!

AC (PC) comes in March, IGN reviews AC DS

Considering the initial controversy surrounding the exclusivity status of Assassin's Creed, it's more than a bit amusing that Ubisoft had a mind for an extensive multiplatform release all along. Through the end of its fiscal third quarter, the publisher has sold more than 5 million combined units of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 editions of the game and just recently released a Gameloft-developed Nintendo DS prequel spin-off to accompany its mobile version let out to prowl last year.

Today, Ubisoft confirmed that the PC version of its Montreal studio's parkour-inspired opus will take to the streets in March in North America and Europe. Titled Assassin's Creed: Director's Cut Edition, the PC version of the game will offer a few more opportunities for mayhem to make up for trailing its console counterparts. Though the publisher was mum on specific details, Ubisoft did say that the game will feature four additional missions exclusive to the PC version.

Also, if you were looking forward to the DS version of Assassin's Creed (which was released just Tuesday Feb 05.0 you will probably want to read a few reviews for it first eh? Well, IGN has the first and it scores a 70/100. We'll report when more reviews come in.

Altair's Chronicles hits shelves this week

While we're still waiting on the PC version of Asassin's Creed to be released, Ubisoft has (in conjunction with gameloft) come out with a new title for the series, Altair's Chronicles for the Nintendo DS. It hits stores wednesday Feburary 6th 2008.

Anyways, like I said, it's being made with help from Gameloft, who made the Cell phone version of Assassin's Creed and this title seems to be very simular in design, being a side scrolling brawler. Sure you can't expect the open world and endless exploration of the console version, but perhaps it'll have enough action to keep gamers impressed. Anyway it plays out, we're all left asking "Where's the PC version!?"

Info on AC DS

Assassin's Creed DS is in fact a prequel to it's monster hit big brother. Although the game itself has not been confirmed by Ubisoft themselves, Go Nintendo has a blog depicting the games boxart and detailing a bit about the game. The game is in fact set before the time of Assassin's Creed, and the DS version will be subtitled "Altair's Chronicles".

AC sales reach 2.5mill, fastest selling new IP in NA
Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed has surpassed sales expectations and currently ranks as one of the top-selling PlayStation 3 software titles to date.

Aside from that, the game also proudly bears the title of being the fastest-selling new video game IP in North America.

Ubisoft, on the other hand, is now the happy recipient of a three to five million unit boost in sales for the 2007-2008 time frame, thanks to the 2.5 million units the game has already sold for the PS3 and the Xbox 360. Yves Guillemot, Chief Executive Officer of Ubisoft, stated:

These regular-sequel franchises are a source of very high profitability both in the short and long term. Drawing on its strong internal development capacities, Ubisoft is currently in an ideal position to continue to develop numerous new creations - an essential condition for winning market share and ensuring strong growth going forward.

Ubi not sure WHAT makes AC crash
Since its release, Assassin's Creed revealed plenty of bugs and glitches. With countless gamers sending their complaints online, developers promised to release a patch that will make the game more stable. However, the company is still uncertain about what causes the game to crash.

Ubisoft senior public relations manager Michael Beadle told Popular Mechanics that the devs behind Assassin's Creed still don't know what's causing the glitches. The company saw a drop in complaints after gamers realized turning the PlayStation Network's auto-login feature made crashes less frequent on the PlayStation 3, but the quick fix is apparently not enough to make everyone happy.

Fortunately, Beadle reassures that Ubisoft is working on the patch using feedback from gamers and blogs. One community manager at the Assassin's Creed forums did mention an update for the game's Sony PS3 version being in the works, and we can see the same for the Xbox 360. Just keep those fingers crossed!

PS3 patch out... doesn't resolve issues?

According to QJ (and members of the Ubisoft forum), Ubisoft has released a patch for the PS3 version of AC which was suppose to fix the 'freezing' issue that stops gameplay dead in it's track. Word has it that the framerate has further been improved and minor things have been cleaned up but the game crashing glitch is still appearant... sad.

Now.. this is controversal... because some of the forum users say the patch didn't help at all... while others are saying it's eliminated the crashing all together... who to believe?!

Let all of us PS3 users hope for a result soon.

I do get the freeze glitch every so often... and it sucks... but like I've said before, I'll live with it as long as I get to play my AC!
