This whole thing has been awful PR for Atlus. I really wonder if it will hurt their fanbase.

Yes, I am that good!

It has definitely hurt their image; I can see people snidely asking whether each new Atlus release is region locked. I don't think this will noticeably effect their sales though.

The two versions being identical is the main reason rumored to be for the region lock. There's no other place from the big three (US/EU/JP) that would save a huge amount of money and not have to wait forever that importing would be a better option than buying local.

So either a business to business relationship where ATLUS probably have the upper hand, or being able to overcharge the Japanese market is more important to them than maintaining good customer relationships and retaining customers.
Here's hoping many sales are lost, EU version will be super easy to boycott since by the time Zen United get the game out after delays the next version will be looming over the horizon anyway, hopefully without region locking due to lost sales.

Just to
really make sure; my box says my ps3 is ntsc-j region code 3. Are Asia and JP versions interchangeable since they're both ntsc-j or do I have to strictly follow the region code number?

Still hoping for a sequel. Please make it happen, Tri-Ace.

I'm not an expert on these things, but I'm pretty sure if your console is Region 3, you can play the Region 3 version of this.

Ah, turns out it's the Japanese branch's fault, heres hoping they don't pressure Zen into region locking too, or that Zen see this ****storm and fight harder to release it region free, after all, there's no way it's releasing anywhere near the Japanese release date so they should have some room there to negotiate.
Yes, since we get it last it won't actually effect us much at that point, but it's a matter of principles.

I have canceled my pre-order. Atlus brought this on themselves.

I kind of want to wait on the game, just to make sure ASW doesn't pull a BlazBlue on us and releases three full price upgrades of a game in less than three years.

Wait... did you pre-ordered outside from your PS3's region or not? The second sentence makes you seem like you don't want to buy the game even if it's in your region.

I'm not gonna lie, I am expecting at least one more down the line.
Which is why I'm not going to pick up any of the DLC stuff on this game because I figure at least some of it would be put into the new title (especially if they decide to do any DLC characters down the line)
I'm also hoping that if they DO decide to make any advanced version of this game they'll do what Mortal Kombat, UMvC3 and BlazBlue CS have all done and release it for the Vita (not exclusively, just have it there)
Because then, even if the new additions aren't up to snuff, I can at least tell myself I'm paying for the opportunity to play on the go.

Probably an impatient European. I can't really blame him though since they usually get the shaft with release dates.
But really, qqing just because you can't import the game so that you can play a week or so early is a really silly reason to boycott a game. If it was riddled with bugs, like say SFxT, then I would understand the need to avoid it like the plague.

Yeah, I just don't want a repeat of BlazBlue really, heh. Yearly retail updates has been a thing since as long as I can remember (SF2) but there has to be a better way to balance/increase the longevity of a game.
Although I guess for a developer and publisher that's not really their main concern, haha.

Boycotting for any region locking is reasonable, regardless of the circumstances surrounding it. We want it to be clear that it isn't acceptable, because "a week or so early" is when things are going well, (BlazBlue: CT was 10 months).

To this day the European publisher is targeting a 31st August release but in no way it is confirmed, it's a tentative release date because they fail so hard at publishing it's almost a given it's gonna be delayed and it won't be a matter of weeks.

You feel the need to bump all these topics why? If you really want to discuss it you don't need more than one.
Although you're clearly not even adding to the discussion, so I don't know why I'm asking.
