Oh, I'm sure you think you're doing him a favor, giving him a "reality check" and encouraging him to get out and see the world, but ultimately, you're just raining on his parade.
People can find value and emotion in simple things. It's not necessarily a bad thing. If he doesn't feel that same sense of wonder and awe from real life experiences that he does with this game, then so be it. No need to rub it in his face or talk about how insignificant the experience should have been for him.
I find it rather charming that he was so moved by it. He got to communicate internationally through the medium of games, with somebody who probably could barely understand much (if any) of what he said, if they were face to face. That's something people can't normally do in real life, so it's not surprising that it was special to him.

you're getting this wrong. i dont care about doing him a favour or giving him a reality check. i don't know the OP. like the other player in Journey, i've never seen his face, talked to him or anything. i just read his post and the decisive way he described the emotion and magnitude of friendship he felt from such a random and simple online encounter in a video game. im sorry but im not gonna jump on the back patting bandwagon here and pretend that his post wasn't pity inspiring.
it was a cute experience. but to be emotionally touched to the degree that OP describes is just... wow. honestly, i dont wanna be mean here. but his being so overcome by drawing fictitious snow symbols on his TV, is definitely suggestive of a lack of emotional bonding in real life.
i don't really want to debate this any further, so im just gonna leave it at that.

Let me get this straight. You weren't trying to give him a reality check. You weren't posting for his sake, right? You don't know who he is, after all... So, I guess that means you were posting for your own sake. After all, you must feel that you have such a more fulfilling social life than the poster here. You can gloat about your social life over him, and you can even do it publicly on an online message board. Congratulations.

Okay. Take care! Feel free to come back to boast again any time!

Cool post. It took many play-throughs to find all the glyphs but it was worth it because I met some really cool Journeypeeps.
Journey is one of a kind. Feel sorry for those that rushed through it.

I don't see how you can apply this experience in "Real life" nowadays unless you have had the following events occur all at once.
-Be in a strange place unknown to both of you
-Secluded with only you and a stranger
-No language communications
Sure it could happen, and it would be probably more powerful than Journey; but the rarity of these things lining up almost never presents itself.

According to 2dFighter, anyone who cries at movies or video games must lack meaningful relationships in real life. Okaayyyyyyyyy.....
