EVO 2012: Developer Omar Kendall runs Maxwell McGee through the moves for one of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale's newest combatants: Heihachi.
ykno how melee was a great fast paced game, and brawl was rlly slow in comparison. PSABR looks like its slower than brawl lol. this game looks like it has no combo's and ALL knockback. if anyone has ever played VIEWTIFUL JOE REDHOT RUMBLE they will probly see a STRONG resemblance between that game and PSABR. i didnt like that viewtiful joe game, i dont kno if ill like this :I
@CItizenTaylor Hello Kitty type shit? Have you ever even played Parrapa the Rappa? It's not even close to the same thing.
@CItizenTaylor Maybe you should sell you Playstation and buy a Nintendo =) just a thought!
@CItizenTaylor Don't worry, it's just that stage. There are levels featuring Hades and the Hydra from God Of War that aren't so cutesy.
@Guest1001 Oh lol sweet, yeah I'm not into hardcore bloody death themed settings or anything, but I can't stand that 'Hello Kitty' type shit haha. Cheers.
"...because everyone will react to that situation a little differently"
Being loosely chained to a giant rocket? I laughed
I'm bummed they chose his young look for default, his old gray and purple style is way more iconic. Makes me kinda pessimistic about upcoming characters if devs don't care so much about iconity.
But then the gameplay looks quite boring compared to SSB so I don't know if it matters. The % system in SSB is 80% of the fun.
@PrpleTrtleBuBum I agree i prefer old Heihachi too, but Namco probably told them to put young Heihachi because he's kind of the face of Tekken Tag Tournament 2, so that game basically gets free advertising. Plus announcing him at EVO the biggest fighting game tournament and tag 2 getting released in a few months, it makes sense.
You can call a smsh bros rip off all you want but all of you cant denied the better immersive diversive and unique roster this game will have in comparison to the childish characters of s bros thats is not bad at all but not quite superior either.
@NolanB No need to be elitist. I didn't know Heihachi's wave dash move was called a "Wavedash." It sounded like it was game wide inclusion which is what I was referring to because "Wavedashing" as an entire game-wide technique came out of Melee--every character can do it. Technically, MvC2 had a form of it also. Don't know if I'm making sense.
Dissidia!? I played the demo to that and i can tell you personally these 2 are nothing alike.
thats a weird way to think about it and the only time it would guarantee your death is a few level 3 supers.
This has excellent potential but it will definitely need to rip off of smash bro. to it's foundation, include more "explosive" fighters like kingdom hearts characters, digimon characters, (and to really get wild) dragonball z characters. This would be a classic if they did it.
I am not convinced this project is will live up to what it has the potention of being. Also, if this game doesn't have a percentage meter and smash-mode.. it is not exactly like SSB. :P live with it.
That said, it should definitely try to be as good as SSB. As far as I'm concerned it should even try to rip off as much as it can. Games these days seem to avoid copying older games so much they also neglect to include things that made those games great.
Ha ha ha.. it's so funny how they are ripping off Nintendos Smash Bros. I mean, come on, it's the EXACT same thing!!
First the whole motion control rip-off, now this. REally, SONY??! It's cool though, I'll be getting this game no matter what.
Love Heihachi by the way!
Kratos, Big Dad, Heihachi are ok... would be nicer with Sora, Wander, the Prince(of Persia)
And some classic ps1 rpg characters from from games like the Final Fantasy series, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, and Legend of Dragoon!
Looks like they got Heihachi's animations accurately, as if they borrowed assets directly from Tekken.
Is it me or does this game look like it was made using little big planet lol.
So Namco got their fingers in both console exclusive fighters, PSABR and SSBB. HA!!!
I think I know what you mean.. ..Maybe it's the characters. Well, anyways, it looks pretty fun. It's probably the next PS3 game I get
To the people saying that these characters aren't well known enough or aren't close enough to you "unlike Smash Bros", let me ask you one thing? Would you have any clue who Captain Falcon is before Smash Bros? How about Ness? Game and Watch? Ice Climbers? Pitt? ROB? I could go on, but my point being is that these games are not only intended to let you play as loved characters, but get you more attached to lesser known/widely forgotten ones. I now love Captain Falcon and Ness, but I've never played F-Zero or Earthbound, and I look forward to this gaming making me love these characters too.
@lmaocarrots I see what you're saying... but when/if you compare Smash Bros. to All Stars , Smash Bros has a MUCH larger roster... even if this is just the beginning roster and half again more characters are announced , sure Nintendo's had more time to add on but that's not our problem. Yes there are obscure characters like Ness and Captain Falcon (though they weren't obscure when N64 original was released) but they are in addition to Mario , Link , Samus , Peach , Luigi , Wario , Fox , Falco , Pikachu , Kirby , Donkey Kong , Olimar , King dedede , Zelda , Yoshi , etc. it's not that Sony's list of characters is weak , but it seems Sony has decided to ignore the existence of most of the characters (except strangely the obscure ones) before the ps3... where's Jak & Daxter? Where's Ratchet & Clank? Where's Crash and Spyro? It seems like characters like Fat Princess are just fillers (no pun intended) , really? How many people really care to play as a character in a series that has gotten alright ratings overall and you actually don't even play her in the game?
@moviequest14 That is a bit premature seeing that they have said that there are still far more than 10 characters to be announced. It may have anywhere from 20 to 35 characters for all we know, and I highly doubt they'd keep out the essentials. I guarantee , 100%, that Jak and Ratchet will be there and Crash and Spyro are very likely, I just think they get the obscure ones out of the way to pull in the cult followings of those characters and also to build the hype-train for those awaiting the more well-known ones.
@moviequest14 I see what you're trying to say, but the chances of Jak and Ratchet not being in the game are quite minuscule.
@moviequest14 I think there is a little more likelihood that Playstation All Stars gets two fo the biggest Playstation characters than Smash Bros get's namco characters. If you have any doubt that Ratchet and Jak will be in here, you're crazy.
@NolanB Just because there are stages in the game doesn't mean they're confirmed to be in it. To confirm a character is for Superbot themselves to go up and say '' Yes , Ratchet and Jak ARE playable characters in All Stars'' otherwise no matter how likely it's just rumors , just like it's just rumors soul-calibur and tekken characters will be in the new smash bros. There are levels/elements from Buzz but that doesn't mean you'll be playing as a character from it. And if the inspiration from Smash Bros. is true there are PLENTY of smash bros. stages without character representations.
@moviequest14 Jak and Ratchet are already confirmed to be in because of their stages (Sandover Village and Metropolis). Also, Superbot knows how important Crash and Spyro are to the fans. If they aren't included there will be uproar from the fans. So basically, they know that they need those characters to catch people's attention.
@lmaocarrots No offense meant , but you have confirmed documents showing that those characters are coming? Just because they SHOULD come doesn't mean they WILL. I can't judge the game based on what characters are rumored to come or might come.. it's just as premature to say that it will be excellent based on characters you think will come. I see what you're saying however. I just have to judge it on what it is , not what it *might* be.
@lmaocarrots great comment but i think the roster so far is pretty well known...apart from toro and PaRappa...
@hella_epic People don't know PaRappa!?
I despair, I really do. Didn't these people read gaming magazines in the late nineties!?
@Guest1001 @hella_epic oh yeah, I remember Da Rappa & Toro is PSN's mascot in Japan, you can't own a Playstation there without knowing who he is
i think people are being a bit too harsh towards this game, yeah they copied nintendo,so what? does this make the game bad? give it a chance, all it needs is some flashy moves for better presentation....
@hella_epic I think they're setting high expectations... and shouldn't they? Since it is pretty obvious they're ripping off Smash Bros. (which I don't have a massive problem with as long as they do so well and make it unique in some ways , much like modnation racers) they should be expected to challenge them. When you look at Brawl you see a roster of 35 characters (*most* fairly well known) not even including the additional skins etc. and many more stages. If you're going to take a stab at one of Nintendo's biggest franchises you shouldn't aim at ''good enough'' , look at what we've seen , do you think that it can take up 5million unit sales and a 93 on metacritic? If you do perhaps you are seeing something I'm not. Sure it will probably be a *good* game. But to take on Smash Bros it needs to be a *FANTASTIC* game. It just seems much to similar to Play Station Move Heroes , perhaps another whack at it , which will be in bargain bins in a year or 2. I don't see people lining up outside Gamestop for a midnight release , I don't see it being hard AT ALL to get it in stores.. personally I would rather see an attempt at actually remaking move heroes (without making it move-required) to see those staple characters in a better game together.
@moviequest14 Again, I can see where you're coming from. Superbot has a lot to live up to. As long as the roster is colourful and the gameplay is solid, this could be a great game that many won't give a chance. I'm sure once they start revealing more characters it will catch everyone's attention.
@hella_epic really its not stolen Smash Bros Got its idea from games like X-Men vs. Street Fighter (1996), Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter (1997), Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (1998)....Smash brothers is essentially, one of these games, but say instead of using people from a couple universes, or companies, they are all taken Nintendo... several things people think is stolen in the game industry isn't not, sometimes in fact the company being accused of stealing was the creator, just there idea was more basic/ less remembered
@Grimlydemise07 Hell, if anything Nintendo merely did what everyone asked them to do. It's not a novel idea.
