It is 2009, let's stop pronouncing it "rye-you." And it ain't "ree-you" either, Ryu is a single syllable.

Isn't Street Fighter main stream enough internationally now for everyone to know the damn name of the main character? Much less a video game journalist.

All hope is lost in Vega, Balrog, and Mison regaining their real names in the U.S., let's at least give Ryu his.

dont get me wrong i think st 4 is amazing but the controls are annoying because i think if u press the buttons too fast when performing a number of moves in a sequence, you miss out on a move so im guessin you have to get your timing perfect.i guess getting the timing right is a challenge in itself but it can get tedious.

street fighter 4 is more fun because you cans say it's simpler if i put a beginner in soul calibur he would get crushed but that beginner has a chance in street fighter 4

This was a great video. I don't know why everybody's nitpicking about this. You have to remember they made this video for casual players to get help. Everyone suggesting their own strategies wasn't part of the group this video was made for. I know how to get past the annoying people online, but this just opens a couple options or maybe reminds me of a few I haven't been doing on a regular basis.

Stop being a bunch of asses, most of you.

And what they talked about was very basic.

I have never played in any tournament, but this is something that we should have learned playing street fighter 2. And they didn't really cover how to get past Akuma's EX air fireball. You can't take 2 hits while performing a FA.

This is very basic but still informative for the novice players.

People who started playing seriously in tournaments since 2000 are better than people who played casually all their life since 1992.

People get a little too offended by the use of word "pro". You don't have to be a pro to play and teach like a tournament player. This is great advice since the majority of players are not tournament players and are just picking up street fighter.

Im living in Ireland and cant find anyone online with a good signal strength, Ive refreshed til the cows come home and the best I can get is 2 bars and if I play that player the game just jumps and then i get disconnected all the way off the PSN.
I also play killzone 2 and Bad Company online with no problems, why is it so hard so find and play ST4 when the graphics are simple?

  • triforced3

    Posted Mar 8, 2009 1:06 pm PT

Also these guys know nothing about guile strategy. He can EX through fireballs too. As a Guile player, I find that if someone blocks or diffuses my Sonic Boom before I have charged up for another special, it messes up my groove and really cuts down my options. Other than that, Guile has no other weaknesses in my book.

  • triforced3

    Posted Mar 8, 2009 12:53 pm PT

Those "pros" didnt teach you anything about ranging. Sagat's weakness is his sluggish recovery speed after attacks. If you crouch just out of reach of his Roundhouse, you're in the golden position for you to counter him, this has been his weakness ever since he was God Tier in SFII. Geez.

They really need to find some real pros at SF4. I guess it's still too early because no serious championship has taken place, but c'mon, it's the second special feature video without ON THING that is not in the game's manual...

look at them. they already wear thick glasses playing too much street fighter!

  • supernaught360

    Posted Mar 6, 2009 8:22 pm PT

As far as the 360 d-pad goes: why use it? Believe me, they have the settings/sensitivity PERFECT on the 360 thumb stick, try it out. In fact, the games is much more fluid this way. I can rip off any Sakura/Fei Long/Gouken/Ryu (my main fighters) moves effortlessly, and so can anyone else if they make the switch.

Why are people retarded here? First of all he said he started playing SERIOUSLY in 2000. Not the first time he's ever played it lol. Listen. Also Zak only started playing SF games, 4 years ago and I gurantee he'd destroy all you guys! So dont jump to conclusions!

Sorry for the double post but I have a PS3 but I was at the mall playing the xbox 360 street fighter 4 and the d-pad on the xbox makes it almost impossible not to use the shouryuuken I was trying to trough the hadoken but he kept doing the punch. That's mostly why XBL user use Ken.

  • jeremiah06

Wow I had no idea that I was a pesky ken player. Well I can also play with Gen so I guess that will be me new wing man

yes, I will 'guess' the other players next move, then act, thank feck I am physic. Akuma is going to have to jump, no he bloody doesn't, he could do anything, this advice is bollocks and all based on assumptions.

  • supernaught360

I thought these were good fundamental tips for players (like myself) that get too wrapped up in repetitive patterns, and that won't get you far online against players that like to exploit those patterns. It's easy to get in a rut in this game. Just like any pro competitor will tell you: when your strategy isn't working, get back to the fundamentals/basic mechanics.

  • supernaught360

    Posted Mar 6, 2009 2:17 am PT

I found a great technique (using Sakura) that works on a.) dragon punch/tiger knee baiting Kens/Ryus/Sagats, b.) turtling Guiles, and many other fighters. By inching your way over fireball/sonic boom bait like prescribed in the video, get yourself close enough to where you can threaten with an ultra shouken and not absorb a drugon punch/flash kick - and use your ex/focus cancel to abort the shouken. I'm telling you, 95% of the time the "baiter" will blow his/her wad reflexively with a whiffed flaskick/dragon punch - leaving them open for major attacks.

To me, the cancels are key to the mind games of SF:IV, and they're highly unused. You can really psyche these cheap nubs out quite easily. Don't forget: those players are mentally absorbed in maintaining a reptitive pattern that's easily disrupted when their health gauge takes a few knocks.

  • EPaul

    Posted Mar 5, 2009 8:27 pm PT

When a someone picks Ken there's a 95% chance he is a newb so expect a win.

  • ultimaxer

    Posted Mar 5, 2009 8:22 pm PT

I agree with most of the people below me. These tips aren't that helpful to people who actually know what they're doing in the game. I don't know iabout PSN, but on XBL Ken is the most annoying and overused character I have ever seen. Guile isn't that much of a threat, It all depends on what character you use. And these guys started in 2000? Lol. The first time I played this was like, In the 90's. Anyways, someone challenge me to a fight sometime. XBL gamertag: Dengakuslash

Sagat is overpowered. His zoning strategy is practically unstoppable; it doesn't really matter if you're good with him or not. Everybody just throws fireballs with him, and then they get pissed when you call them "cheap". He has ridiculous strength and life which doesn't help matters. Even so, it feels really good when you pound the crap out of some smug Sagat player.

OK.. I'm a Street Fighter noob... but does anyone know what joysticks they were using? I've tried with the 360 controller... and well... I pretty much suck. Would a joystick improve my game?
