Still own my Dreamcast, I absolutely adore it. My Dad bought it day one in the UK, I played all freaking night. Too many fantastic memories. It may have signalled the end for Sega, but they certainly went out with a huge bang. What a legacy to end with. The 2 years I spent playing my Dreamcast beats pretty much every other gaming experience I've ever had. Truly one of the greatest consoles of all time, and the last console aimed squarely at the core gaming audience.
Still play my Dreamcast. Looking back it really didn't stand a chance against Sony's PS2- I mean after all Microsoft and Nintendo couldn't even touch it's dominance! But it's great reliving those memories. I had the Saturn at launch as well. Definitely followed Sega all through their ups and downs!
Ha, great ending to that vid! I still have my Dreamcast, not a launch unit but I jumped on board before Sega pulled the plug on it. I remember how disappointed I was with the announcement the console was being abandoned and Sega was going strictly software. But then the price of games went way, way down. I picked up a bunch of good games for the Dreamcast dirt cheap. Still have the console and most of the games. Most recently I replayed Grandia 2. I have about a dozen games, Crazy Taxi, Jet Grind Radio, Quake 3, Skies of Arcadia, Hidden and Dangerous, Soul Calibur, Fantasy Star Online, Toy Commander and a few more.
I remember in that time i was proudly playing my ps1, well after leaving behind and sell out my n64, and many friends had n64 and ps1 moving to the dreamcast and i ask them why? the ps2 is coming early next year, youre wasting your money. when ps2 was sweeping the market and sega announcing their retirement of the industry: the gnashing of teeth was immediate for my cousins and friendssince their parents most of them couldnt afford the idea of buying a new console too early after the purchase of the dreamcast. So everyone wanted to come to my house play the ps2, those times were very lucrative for me.
Weird I still have & play and works perfectly fine my ps1 & ps2 fat and the third sofar since 2007 ps3(rec: 1f/2f/current 1slim).
Also is shame that since the time ofnthe sega saturn developers are so lazy and grumbys about the architecture of the processor. exactly what happen to sonys CPU
The Dreamcast boiled down to great hardware, a fair controller and an awesome library: Jet Set Radio, Skies of Arcadia, Chu Chu Rocket, Samba de Amigo, Ikaruga, Bangai-O, Ferrari Challenge, Test Drive Le Mans, Typing of the Dead, Power Stone 2, etc.
I just cant understand how they went from D-pad and buttons perfection from the Saturn model 2 controller to the Dreamcast one, damn! Made me waste money on arcade sticks.
Fantastic system! Were it not for the Dreamcast my brother and I would not have become as passionate about gaming as we are today. So many great games and so many great memories. Thanks Sega for giving us all that you did!
Dreamcast was just plain awesome. I remember when it came out, I didn't have it pre-ordered and I REALLY wanted one after seeing screenshots of Sonic Adventure. I couldn't believe how amazing the graphics looked and was a little jealous being a massive Nintendo fanboy at the time. I went to every video game/electronics store in my town looking for it and it was, of course, sold out. After checking the stores in the mall with no luck, I remembered that in the mall's Sears store there was, at the time, this ridiculously tiny video game counter with two glass cases(of course it's now part of the electronics section) in the boy's clothing section. I figured that since it was so small and actually kind of hidden behind a wall when facing a certain way that I might luck out. That was one of the best choices I ever made because they actually had one left. The second I saw that gorgeous box in the glass case my heart skipped a beat and I nabbed the console, Sonic Adventure and Ready 2 Rumble Boxing without a second's hesitation. Definitely one of my favorite video gaming memories. Much better than the day I got my Gamecube which involved me waiting in line out front Toys R' Us in the freezing cold for 3 hours.
I love this console, :) It doesnt even have to get new games for me, PSO all the way still gives me all the enjoymen I need lol :P
Loooooved my Dreamcast! I would still buy games for it if they would release them. It's sad when they just give up on the software side of it when the sales die out, as if there aren't Dreamcast owners out there craving for more games. I know why they made the decision financially, but how about throwing us a bone once in a while Sega? I am hyped for Sturmwind but it would be nice if Sega spent a small bit of resources to show gratitude for Sega loyalists if you will.
Why did they have to take the Dreamcast from me? Why did they do that? Can't they keep make more and more games? :(
Never had one until 2 years ago, but it's a great console to play even today. Wish I got a chance to play it online though.
