How did I miss this game???
Watching some Doom 3 vids on Youtube, and I see this game mentioned.
Looks really good, and seem like a great gunplay.
Definitely buying this.

Chris Watters roams the gorgeously detailed Wasteland in this video review for Rage.

This game has the best first person gunplay I've ever experienced, at least from a non-military shooter. It also has very cool characters, one of the best video game towns ( Wellspring ) and incredible enemy behaviors. Add on that outstanding visuals and gorgeous sound effects, you've got a great franchise in your hands with Rage, id Software. Now let us hope they won't let it sink. Hopefully not, due to its 3M units sold.
Bunch of silly, picky haters on here that don't speak my language. This game is straight up amazing. Some clown gave a 5/10? Get out of here with that crap. That's no opinion, that's just being ridiculous.
Undoubtablly the story sucked lemons and it was quite linear.......but is there really anything else to complain about? A good,Solid shooter that Definately deserves what it got. Can't wait for a sequel
I just beat this game (about ten minutes ago) after having it for about four months. From a technical standpoint, it's pretty incredible. The graphics and frame rate really bring the landscape alive and you feel like you're stuck in a horrible post-apocalyptic wasteland. Let me say that again, when you play this game "you feel like you're stuck in a horrible post-apocalyptic wasteland"... Aside from the incredible technicality, there's not much else to this game; the races are fun, but the mechanics of the controls are incredibly lackluster (and I'm not even taking into account the fact that two of the largest game developers made this game). But maybe I should... This game is a stepping stone...nothing more. Bethesda wanted to test their software for Skyrim and id wants to test their engine for DOOM. At this point you may be wondering why I haven't mentioned the storyline...That's because their isn't one...Seriously...The story is the single most flat, unsatisfying, putrid mess I have ever witnessed...It was clearly an afterthought...The ending (as @philcelica said) is awful... Imagine it like this, you get asked on a date by a friend and you go out because they're your friend, right? Don't want to be rude. You drive out to a restaurant, eat dinner, say a sentence every 15 minutes to each other, and then you take her home so you can go play Saints Row: The Third. This is RAGE in a perfect metaphor. Complete with the Saints Row..
good graphics, not bad game overall but average gameplay over all 7/10 they shouldnt have made this and just made a new doom game thats what i think any ways.
The ending, oh Jebus the ending!!! It was like waiting for a nuclear explosion and all you get is a limp fart....
This definitely wasn't a good review, let alone an accurate one. This game feels exactly like Dead Island, which was THE deal breaker for me. I was sick and tired of DI when I beat it and I noticed this game has the same kind of quests: Do this and you'll get this. Do that and you'll get that. Also, the characters you'll talk to are all extremely kind and gentle. BS, seriously. I don't need to even need to talk about the popping textures and how crappy they look when looked at closely. 5/10 for me.
@Boris_17 totally agree with the dead island part. when u pick up the scrap items
Just got this for 14.99 in steam. What a hell of a deal if you count the release date was just 2 months ago and you're more inclined to campaigns, like me
There's so much content in this game, and it's all so much fun. The RPG, racing and shooting elements blend together so well, there's so much enjoyment to be found. The game's generally too underrated IMO, but this review was fair. Having to regularly save manually was a pain, and it never really felt like things kicked off. I did, however, thoroughly enjoy all racing parts, both online and off.
omg i jut bought resistance 3 yesterday with tjis and homefront? I-AM TRULY INVINCIBLE gamspot RANK ME. KING OF THE SPOT
The latest dissapointment of 2011 ,Rage is not a bad game but it has MANY flaws, first the graphics ,althought there are some good details in most of the enviroments, the very low quality of the textures really kills the overall visual quality of teh game, second the story is awful, in the beggining it gives you hints like it was about to reveal something big but it concludes in nothing (just like the ending of every DOOM game, but hey that was the 90's),thirth the game is very SHORT, you know when i see i game that has two discs (15gb) i expect a long campaign but i have finish Rage in 14 hours (and yes i complete all missions) in Nightmare difficulty (the hardest difficulty level),fourth if you compare this game with Borderlands there are very few oportunities to explore, the game's world is very limited the only explorable place are the wasteland's sewers but if you want to explore them,OH surprise you must buy the DLC.I really don't understand why this game took so long to be released when the final product is something so outdated (Borderlands is way better than this), the shooting mechanics are good and yes there are fun moments ,but for something that took so much time to be developed, i was expecting much more.
Beneath all the hype, the bug, the old game engine, the constant pop up, the low texture, the bad saving system, the lazy developers from id ( known to be lazy ), the shallow story line, one of the worst ending, well RAGE delivers as it set out to be, and thats a solid shooter.
Can't believe how cheap this was when I bought it last week.. Guess it isn't doing well..... Shame, I really like it!

I rented Rage to see if it would be good enough to buy and I thought it was great (at least as far as I got). I plan on getting this for Christmas. I think it all hinges on what type of game you like - I think it's satisfying as a shooter game with a Mad Max type of feel to it. I really look forward to a Rage 2 once they tweak it & do some more w/ the story.
animation is great, it runs smoothly, but textures load in on the fly that look horendous up close, the base textures are Worse than Wii textures, and the best textures take nearly a second to load ontop, every single time you turn. The game is best seen in motion, simple as that.Gameplay seems a little shallow, but theres a reasonable amount to do. I'd have given it a 7, good but not great.
Spot on review (no pun intended) and what is up w/ dudes comment below that the graphics were "subpar"? I suggest you upgrade your 20 inch rabbit ear'd TV, you know, the one that sits on top of the big a** console TV your grandparents bought when they got married that doesn't work anymore? You know the one your grandmother covers with a big doily? I think that may solve your issue of "subpar" graphics. This game could be a pile of garbage and the graphics would still be a 9/10.
ShazamKnight said: I personally prefer Dark Souls, RAGE doesn't have much replay value imo and Dark Souls is challenging, brutally challenging. You do realize your on ((Rage))-review page right?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I wont to read about someother game, I'll go to that games page thank you very-much!
ok so I read somewhere else that the PS3 version has the ID pack and not the Xbox version. Is the ID pack used to enhance the visual quality of the game? Why is he showing the Xbox version on the PS3 review? I plan to buy it this week since its $40 now but I always hate having to choose which of my consoles to buy for.
Apparently we have a bunch of jaded gamers hanging out here.Is it fun? Looks pretty good2 me.Everyone will have different expectations from iD but ultimately I look at the game on it's own.Love Doom but hate Quake. I'll only judge this after I've played it.
Every "environmental detail will pop"...even with an 8gb install...the textures do indeed "pop"
Finished Rage over the weekend, traded it the same day. It's not a bad game, but it's not that good either. The shooting part is probably the best this year, especially in nightmare mode. The driving is just plain annoying, the story is a waste of time, the ending, oh my god the ending, it's so bad you won't believe it. Had it been a straight out shooter I would have given it a 9.5. As is, an 8 is a fair score, 7.9 is more like it.
@ShazamKnight ive heard that dark souls is a little bit to challenging for people who just like to play, but thanks for your opinion
I bought Rage. I am currently in my 23 hour of Rage. I am loving it. It is a very special game. The problem is that, like Fallout 3, if you skip all the side missions you are MISSING THE POINT OF THE GAME. You complete all of the excellent, intense combat and super fun car craziness and then get back to me AFTER YOU HAVE ACTUALLY PLAYED THE GAME AND NOT JUST READ OTHER PEOPLES REVIEWS. 9/10.
If you play this game expecting an action packed shooter/racer you will not be dissapointed, its not an rpg but does have some rpg like qualities such as quests and free roam (although theres not a whole lot to explore) its like a refined fallout, better graphics, art style, enviroments and gameplay but ultimately a lot less content. it still gets a 9/10 from me.
20 hours of gameplay is a plain lie. I've been messing around a lot. Doing all the side-quests and completing all the races so far, and I'm close to the end of the main story according to the guide. I'm at 8 hours of playtime. The game is short. Its really fun, but don't buy this full price guys.
@eddyoshi I personally prefer Dark Souls, RAGE doesn't have much replay value imo and Dark Souls is challenging, brutally challenging.
cant decide wether to buy this or dark souls, for people who are intrested I only have a ps3
@ zillaman101 I owned the game, and browsed the Multiplayer quickly. Only saw Co-op and "Road Rage" missions. It only says, "2-4 players online" on the back, so I'm assuming if there was competative multiplayer, it wouldn't be that fun against 3 other players. :/
I loved how the enemies Racted to each shot and died all differently. Probably the Best A.I. engine so far, gotta say. Also, I really wished to Campaign was split-screen like borderlands, due to the fact that the multiplayer co-op missions were kinda boring.
@slayerSS-3 Though you obviously realize it yourself too and just whined about the score because you already like this and hate Call of Duty (I'm not saying you should not) but I have to say it: You are comparing a game with the focus on multiplayer to this, and point out single player lenght? Not to mention that the score is the opinion of very few people if not a single person... and you know how opinions go : P Some like the gameplay of CoD, you obviously don't.
This game looks pretty cool. But is there competitive multiplayer ground firefights???
