I only played the first one and my two major complaints are that the story and characters were boring and the combat got tedious after a while. Is the story/characters better and is the combat faster in your opinion?

I also would like to know how much you actually interact with the heroines. They made a pretty big deal of the whole generation thing in the first one, but interaction was pretty much only answering a bunch of questions near the end of each generation.

Here it is all about building relationships again, but not as extreme like in Agarest 1 or 0 though.

There are many ways to build up the relationship:
    - Participating in battle very slowly builds up the relationship points
    - Event Choices (obviously, it can raise or lower)
    - Minigame (hot bath, massage, etc)

The interaction between the Main Character and the possible Waifus are through events (although not as extremely like in 1).

Battle Participation is pretty much your "last-resort" if you screw up on events and wanna bring her relationship to the max (it will require tons of battle grinding though).

Minigame you can build up their relation but there is a limited amount of time you can do it though (and failing will just make it worse).

I have a question regarding Yumil, the Harpuia. Is she STR based or MAG based?

does Victoria have good stats? Is this game like other games in the series where the main characters stats just blow everyone else's out of the water? are the characters in generation one and two interesting? i don't really care all that much about generation 3, Weiss' grandson looks lame.

So what are the really "broken" combos or character builds? I certainly don't plan to mess around and I'd like very much to make the strongest parties possible. How do I make sure I'm doing that, since it seems that skill books etc. are a one-time deal and thus it'd be pretty important to make sure they go where they need to?

Also, what's more important in terms of build for the main characters: Role, weapon, stats, all of the above? I think someone said the best weapon was a sword, which means at least one of Weiss/Schwarz/Gray needs that, but is it better to go full-on physical bruiser, full-on mage, or take risks with a Battlemage?

I ask because in general this was a bad plan in Agarest Zero; with a few exceptions, if you made a Sieghart who was physical you didn't want to go magical with Leonis because his stats would be bad, and a Battlemage Ziggy often produced a mediocre spread of choices for his son. In Agarest 1 the only reason I had a really good mix of physical and magical descendants was because it was much easier to use a character builder than it would be in Zero or 2. Absent formulas, it seems like the safest thing to do is just seriously skew Weiss toward one extreme or the other and hope Schwarz and Gray follow suit. So which one is more needed: Fighters or Mages?

From the looks of the party member stats, most of the girls you get as mages have A or S in the necessary mage skills, but other than George, your physical party members are kind of lame on the Str/Vit front. So I'm assuming something like an S/A/A Str/Vit/Dex Weiss who uses Swords is desirable?

answer 1.Arc-en Ciel best broken combo ever in agarest 2
answer 2.Well in my Japanese playthrough i went
Syche for vice S in int
    Schwarz Sword/Greatsword S in str
and gray spear with All B's
    answer
3.Mages tend to be best in agarest 2 because of a few reasons
    1. mage does absolute hit to emenys unlike physcal because you tend to miss
2.If you combine the will powers plus genuis awesome spaming of arc-en ciel
    3 there equpment
    4. it all determines on how you make vice via character customization
Its very small unlike agarest zero where a buch of varietys and combos for sieghart unlike vice- character customization
I don't know here are my answers to some of your questions
    I help a bit

I disagree having Mages being the best... let me point out the + and - of Melee vs Casters.

    {Melee}
    + Less AP cost generally
+ Lots of attack style (Combo, General, Range, etc)
+ No strength or weakness to bother against
+ Easier to get stronger to build up damage
+ Very compatible with majority of cast to create combos
    + Wait gain is low
+ Status Effect Attacks (instant death, steal, etc)
    - Suspectable to misses if low DEX vs Enemy's AGI.
    - Majority of skills is single target
    - Certain enemies/bosses have Physical Resist

Melee attacks is everything mentioned above.. there is one disadvantage though. If your DEX is low against their AGI, you can miss the attack.

The workaround is the point that the INITIATOR's status is the one that determines your hit or misses. So if someone that starts the whole attack/combo have high DEX, then all participating members (even if they got crappy DEX) will be able to hit the enemy in that combo.

    {Casters}
    + Able to hit Weakness
+ Never Miss Attack (unless it is EX-Skill based)
    - Can be resist/absorbed
    - Compatibility can vary (need compatibility members to create high combos)
    - Higher Wait build
    - More AP Cost
    - Can Make/Break you in battle
    - Certain enemies/bosses have Magical Resist

The major thing about Spells is enemies can't evade it at all.. BUT since you are limited to equipped skills, if you have one that the enemy can absorb, you can be in big trouble since it will prevent you from using that attack (which could hurt your combos and attacks overall).

BUT despite that, there is one elemental that will pretty much negate most of the negative stuff about the "Casters"... it is Extra/Neutral type spells. Since it is considered Non-Elemental, no enemies can't resist or absorb the attacks.

    {Arc-En-Ciel Combination Spell}
This is why Arc-En-Ciel is the most overpowered spell combination in the game, since it hits a huge wide range, does lots of hits and can't be evaded or absorbed.

Only thing is if your group has crappy INT, then the power isn't worth it.. also certain bosses/enemies resist the damage of Arc-En-Ciel making it not worth using too.

Last, Arc-En-Ciel eats up a lot of Wait Time too.

    ^Yeah i agree
Thank you for the clarification Master LL
"Sometimes im bad at explaining or trying to understand the question or questions. My bad"
I tend to try to answer but i was only looking at the mages point of view not the warriors
Well Arc-en-ciel does consume alot of wait gauge but if your character has over wait you have to experience not using that character on a set number of turns til the recover.
Same goes for all combo skills because they all use alot of wait gauge.
of course about the warriors not getting "Miss" is due to their equipment or Dex but you can change around with willpowers that allows hits or one character that can hit alot.

    I have a Question
Willpowers or "EX Skills" in Agarest 2
can make you win battles determing on the situation or end up losing
    So Here's my question
Determing on the right skill books you use on that character such as genuis;unleash magic and unleash all but is it heavy impelled on the "Player" to custmomize there characters to decide what they want?

You can always decide what willpower you want when you learn a skill book.
Of course you want to choose wisely since you have limited chances to switch before you must keep with that willpower eventually.

Build however you play the game. I know Byu went complete mage-style (as well as RV) for Arc-En-Ciel. Both prioritize on learning 2-3 elements (so they won't get screwed from absorb/resist) while learning Neutral. Of course they have physical attacks and stuff too.

I went more of a hybrid.. concentrating on Combo, General, Light/Dark and Neutral.

I know another friend that went pure melee with little casters. So everything is possible, just gotta make up their weakness somehow.

How much influence does the mother have?

Like if I start with a mage and pick the fighter mom for Schwarz, will he have middling physical stats or pretty good ones? I got kinda burned by that in Zero, ended up with kinda mediocre options for Leonis all around. When I planned it out better it worked much more reliably.
