I hate how people in this fanbase think there's this stupid idea of a "true fan"

Like, honestly, I cringed multiple times in that last topic. Obsessed '4' fans suggesting that the classic fans have nostalgia goggles? Really? Never mind that I played '4' BEFORE the rest of the series, and I like the classics better.

Being required to hate '5'? How much sense does that makes, that a 'true fan' would hate a main entry to the series? And this also makes me bring the nostalgia goggles thing back up considering that a lot of the complaints about '5' were equally present in '4', so maybe some obsessed '4' fans need to take off nostalgia goggles.

Needing to hate Operation Raccoon City? Yeah, I get that it's nothing like a Resident Evil game, but if you were looking for one when you played it then you're stupid. Operation Raccoon City is fun, just not anything like your standard conventional Resident Evil game.

You know what's a real 'true fan'? Someone who enjoys the games to his or her own liking without telling others how they need to think. I don't mind if people express opinions that differ from mine, but the way that people said these aspects were needed to be a 'true fan' made me cringe.

I agree with everything you said, however you should listen to your own advice as one of your own threads was titled "Go ahead and kill me, but I hate RE4"

IF you're one of those "true fans" that whine about how the classics were the only good ones and that the new ones suck then yes you have nostalgia goggles. Things that start from your childhood is generally viewed more favorably than any new ones regardless of the actual content. (I.E. Pokemon nostalgics claiming that Red and Blue being the only good ones despite the newer generations come packed with much more content and playability)

Now I adore EVERY one of the RE games including the Chronicles, survivor, what have you, but viewing things with bias simply because of your childhood is basically nostalgia goggles.

And the tank control argument is valid to show that the classics weren't flawless. RE4, 5 might have flaws in the atmosphere, not scary etc. but so did the classics, the controls ARE awkward and the camera IS annoying.

I'm pretty sure I never asserted my opinion as superior, nor did I say anyone had to hate RE4 to be a true RE fan. I'm not the hypocrite that you're implying I am, trust me. There's a certain level of consistency that I like to keep in posting my opinions.

You claimed that all RE4 fans were emo Leon-loving fanboys and they were generally immature. I'm pretty sure that counts as thinking that RE4 fans are inferior to others.

I never said any of that. The closest I came to that was saying that a majority of RE4 fans assert their opinions as superior.

Huh, I see that you're right. I apologize. I guess I must've mixed you with a million RE4 hater posts I've read this month. In fact it seems that you actually enjoy it albeit liking RE5 and the classics more.

In fairness though pretty much everyone in an informal argument especially on the internet (and sometimes even in formal debates or court) will claim their opinions are superior to others

I think it's funny how ppl say a "true"RE fan don't like the movies or how a "true" fan doesn't like the "new"style of game play. Well that's what we got now so how well will one's "fanism" holding up in the 2D realm (So to speak)? LOL Silly!!

I'm a huge fan of Tomb Raider as well. Look how much that series evolved over the years! Yea 1 & 2 were my favorites just like RE; 1 & 2 were my favorites. Big deal! The series evolved and as a avid fan I evolved as well.

Thats what I believe I SHOULD think but sometimes one media is just worse than the other form i.e. the Pokemon show (at least the English version) is MUCH MUCH worse than the game. So cliche and cringe-inducing childish voice acting that would make an 8 year old cringe. I do like the original Japanese version though. At least they sound cute instead of some adult sounding kids and had teenage/young adult jokes.
