They just keep coming up with new ways to stylize & glorify murder... don't they. It's just a game you say? Well you are what you eat, and there's a lot of people constantly feeding on simulated violence these days.
Only a blind fool would assume there's nothing to worry about in regards to the impact this has on peoples minds. The incidence of violent behavior has grown exponentially over the years, especially among youth, think about it.
@botswankyVideo games and movies are a product of reality, not the other way around. I completely reject the claim that the world has somehow gotten more violent. As others have pointed out, the most vile acts in human history were committed long before video games or TV. How about all of the violence committed over power and blood diamonds in Africa? Do you blame video games for that as well?
Entertainment only attempts to provide context for, and/or relief from the ubiquitous violence in the world. Most of the youth violence you're referring to is gang violence, there are no instances of Tommy QB from the suburbs suddenly being brainwashed and murdering somebody. It's always a matter of a person who is deeply troubled in many ways, bullied, and almost always somebody who spends more time shooting guns than playing video games. Blaming entertainment is simply a cheap cop-out so people don't have to address the reality of the situation.
@botswanky lol nothing really has ever changed, we used to pit people in stadiums against eachother to the death to satisfy our manly bloodlust, now we use video games, and i guarantee a way higher percentage of people per area died back then.
Theres more to it. No one can say there is a direct correlation between violent media and actual violence. Look at Japan, they have some of the most violent media in the world yet have one of the lowest violent crime rates in the world.
@botswanky People release their stress by playing violent video games. Really don't see how that would make people more violent. Also violent behavior actually hasn't been going up, so maybe you should stop pulling stuff out of your ass.
@botswanky In this game the violence is actually part of the story / game, it's nothing like Postal or Prototype where you just kill horribly for the sake of it. Under normal circumstances I might agree with you but NOT with this particular game.
I've always wondered where people are getting statistics like "The incidence of violent behavior has grown exponentially over the years." You mean things are worse than when people used to have things like lynching parties, genocide, or civil war? The history of man is a history of violence. Video games certainly have not increased this tendency, only highlighted it and perhaps given it style. People used to put slaves into arenas and watch them fight wild animals. I'd say video games are a much kinder outlet, for our violent nature...
Where they get these statistics from? They pull them out of their a*#! They make them up, and include words like "exponentially" without realising that it actually means something more than "grows fast".
Something that has grown quickly (exponentially? I don't think there's a quantative measurement) is media coverage and the 24hr news cycle.
But, of course, the point is that many many teenagers died in WW1 when video games did not exist at all.
