Sleeping Dogs features some of the hottest actors in Hollywood today, including Emma Stone, Lucy Liu, Tom Wilkinson, Kelly Hu and more!
What a total graphics fail, they spent money on vocal talent and hired character modeling talent worse than Rockstar's GTA franchise. Anyone with the "they're trying to be stylistic" comment should check out Borderlands 2 and see what is good "stylistic" graphics before making that argument.
the new gen games as I call them are as as should be better , developers learn from mistakes and present new ideas and concepts and we benefit from them ...
all I have to say is Thank You ! and keep those 3rd person games coming even if it's only my way ! not to be greedy mind you !
In the olden days, Wing Commander III and IV used actors like Mark Hamill and Malcolm McDoWell to great effect, but that's because they actually had to act on camera. Like several others have said, isn't SE wasting both their own money and the talent of these actors by hiring them to VO?
Ok, so ME wouldn't be the same for me without its actor-VO cast. I guess only time will tell if Sleeping Dogs pulls it off. I am not going to get the game just because of the VO though. I didn't even know who VO in ME until the VO video for ME3.
@Unfallen_Satan Anyone who buys a game simply for the VO is a fool.
Even as True Crime 3 this game looked like it could be 'better then expected' but it would stil be the sequel to True Crime 1 and 2 so I remained skeptical.
Then the game died, was revived and it actually looked good, if not great. Now it looks nothing short of amazing.I might actually get this on launch day.
Also Emma Stone's voice is already a +1 for the final score...
@ronnet Its not a sequel/prequel to any True Crime game. Its a new IP. Research before you try to discuss it.
''The game was originally in development as Black Lotus but was announced during 2009 as True Crime: Hong Kong, the third installment and a reboot of the True Crime series. As a result of the game?s high development budget and delays, it was cancelled by Activision in 2011. Six months later, it was announced that Square Enix had picked up the publishing rights to the game, but the game was reannounced as Sleeping Dogs in 2012 as Square Enix did not purchase the True Crime name rights.''
So like I said, it was originally a True Crime game, then it died and later it was revived as Sleeping Dogs. Here is a tip: when someone says something you never heared before, then first look into it before saying it isn't true. A person can't know everything, so don't just assume you know more then everyone else.
I'm only bringing up the main point of discussion: you saying I didn't do my research. That is all this has ever been about. You're the one that keeps adding unnecessary facts. Just now you're telling me about how they changed the way the characters look...
I also didn't bring up Activision as part of the discussion. I said facts like that were outside of the scope. Because it really seems we are of a similar opinion when it comes to TC, Activision and this game.
You now say you alread acknowledged my 'minimal research'. Perhaps I missed that acknowledgement, so point it out to me. If true then I'm sorry for wasting your time (and being the one who kept us running in circles).
@ronnet Why do you keep responding about the same bs if I acknowledged that you did the minimal research you did? Why do you keep bringing up my dislike for Activision? I said I know what the game was but that's not what it is now. Wei or other main characters don't even look the same way when it was TC. I corrected you once and you keep bringing that up as well. Get over it.
@JaBronTheMC I get that you want to point out that this game didn't start out as a TC game, that it has nothing to do with the original TC developer or the previous two games. That it was just branded as a TC game by Activision. I also understand that you want to express how much you dislike Activision.
But that has nothing to do with me having to do 'my research' because I never denied that any of that is false.
All I said was that I thought this game looked even when it was known as a True Crime game. You can not ignore the fact that it was, at it's announcement, a TC game.
You can keep bringing up new stuff like spelling errors, TC being a dead franchise and that the devs and publishers won't even acknowledge that it was once known as a TC game, but that doesn't change the facts.
Again, you have yet to explain how I didn't do my research. And please don't bring up new facts about my poor spelling or anything else that has nothing to do with it. If you want to respond that quote my original post and explain to me what it exactly is that is incorrect. Thank you.
@ronnet It wasn't baseless. Apparently you missed my entire point. No matter how scattered it may come across to you.
@JaBronTheMC In other words, your comment about me not doing my research was baseless. You could have saved us both some time if you just owned up to it right away. Have a good one.
@ronnet The mistake was the word that doesn't exist. I said I don't like the fact that its referred to TC NOW & I said it was previously titled TC:HK but not tied to it in the beginning. The older build of the game did look good but this is definitely more polished and I'm glad SE picked it up.
With that said, the discussion is over.
@JaBronTheMC One thing is VERY unclear to me: what mistake did I made?
All I said that I already thought it looked good when it still was a True Crime game. This is an undeniable fact. Of course the devs aren't going to call it that anymore. They're not getting paid to promote the franchise of a competitor.
But I responded to this video by saying how good I think this game looked, now and in the past. And in the past it was a True Crime game. Fact.
I compleetly agree that TC is dead and that Activion is shit but I'm not going to hide or ignore the truth because of it. There is nothing disrespectful about saying that the game looked good when it was considered a True Crime game.
But if you think it is, fine, but don't say that I should have done my research because you don't like the fact that it at one time was a TC game.
True Crime is a dead series and Activision is a shitty company so don't mention either one in the same breath as this because it'll be disrespectful to UFG.
@ronnet I added the comment in my response to correct you. It had nothing to do with the discussion. I just corrected a mistake you made. I said do your research before you decided to respond with "it was TC first.." or something along those lines. Everyone seems to call it something that it used to be and haven't moved on yet. The ppl at SE won't even acknowledge the old name either so call it what it is now.
@JaBronTheMC Does it matter whether it was 'just branded' as True Crime? The game was announced as a True Crime game.
All I said was that even as True Crime 3 the game looked good to me. I even took the time to mention that I'm aware of the game's development history by commenting about how it was cancelled and returned as Sleeping Dogs.
Yet you respond by saying it isn't a sequel/prequel to True Crime and that I should do my research before discussing it. Yet nothing I said was incorrect. I only made a spelling error because English is my 4th language. That you decide to add that to your response says a lot as well.
If you really wanted to add the fact that the developers started the project without the True Crime IP attached to it then you could have said so. Instead of saying I should do my research.
@ronnet I knew it was "branded" as true crime meaning that the TC series was not in mind when developed. That's the difference. I don't speak about games unless I've fully researched everything about it before I buy it. & wth is "heared" that's not a word. I said research it before discussing so that you'll know that the only thing that made this a TC game was the name, nothing else.
Between The Man with the Iron Fists, Elementary and Sleeping Dogs, I'm calling this The Year of the Liu.
Sorry but Emma Stone playing a character in this game is a no-no for me. She definetly isn't of the same caliber of actors as Tom Wilkinson. Very dissapointed about her being chosen for this game.
lol tom wilkinson is a veteran actor with tons of experience, and emma just started like 5-6 years ago. but within those 5-6 years, shes got some pretty good roles. some were decent, some were really good.
you really cant compare the two lol.
I would hate to be a talented but unknown actor...the games Industry appears to only be using famous actors as of late. Whilst these actors may be established & talented I'm growing to despise this trend.
OMG Edison Chen hahahaha can't believe that fool is one of the voice actors of this game. Son B**CH gets to work with Emma Stone.
i saw this game and i was like 'mehh' , you know its really not tha........ is that Emma Stone???? THIS GAME IS GOING TO BE EPIC!!!!
Totally looking forward to this game. Period.. I thought i was expecting a little to much earlier but from what i have seen of this game so far has already brought peace/ surpassed my doubts of this game.. Never less i hope this turns out to be one of the best.
"Tom Wilkinson " makes this game win alone. Any one remembers his role in Rock n Rolla should know that for a fact. "Excuse me I think you're forgetting who's country you're in... you immigrant bastard!"
Great cast but was it really necessary to bring in Hollywood actors? There are other small-time actors that can do both motion & voice-over better than these 'big-shot' actors, plus they don't ask for a huge sum of money. Rockstar games proves it.
Man United Front Games went all out it seems when it comes to voice talent. Hope the final product is good though.
I don't understand why they paid for celebrities. When it comes to VO most of the time pro VO Actors are much better. (and much cheaper) With only the occasional exception.
@Phrykshun because celebs market better to 'the general public' ... you do have a point there however, i'm still guessing it would make for a great interactive movie but with all the production cost because of the hype it might turn less profit than they excpect and it might be not that appealing to the more 'hardcore' gamers if the hype is about celebrities involved instead of dazzling action that will challenge you all the way from start to end ... i sill wanna see the movie tho ;-p
@shnull Maybe they brought this game from Activision for dirt cheap with like 60-80% of development completed so they have money left over for celeb voice actors. I mean they do provide great promotional value and half the comments here are people saying 'I'm buying this game cos Emma Stone or Liu Kang is in it' lol
@ManHooYin well, i hope it will be worth their while. It looks like the storyline is superb, something a lot of games miss imo
@Phrykshun My point exactly.
