GameSpot gets a sneak peek at the tactical shooter SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs for the PlayStation 3.
Man i'm off the chain for this. It better be sweet. Socom has been and will always be the best multi player game I've ever played. I didn't have a ps3 for the last one but herd nothing good. I love the old school. I hope the maps are sweet. I guess you get Abandoned if you preorder. Can't flippin wait. I'm a socom vet. Hit me up if you know me Fishstix back in the day. Fischstix1976 now
Dude, me and my friends are gonna get like 10 people to play this, a team of five in one house and a team of five in another, everyone with sharpshooters, total tactics and SWAT-style playing, for 48 hours STRAIGHT. gonna be shweeeeett
Can't wait for the beta next week and see if they deliver or not otherwise there are a bunch of other games coming out.
The initial reports of SOCOM 4 looked like the game would be garbage. I'm definitely more satisfied now with what I'm seeing. I was especially happy to hear that they were keeping the fans in mind and put in the classic mode. That's definitely a cool addition and pretty considerate on their part. I grew up playing SOCOM 1 - CA. Obviously 2 was the best and always will be a classic, but now this looks like a solid reboot for the current systems. Shame I don't have a PS3, I'd love to see this game first-hand =(
looks boring
loved socom 1 and 2 hope this is good
WHOEVER LIKED MAG WILL PROBABLY LIKE THIS PILE OF MUTATED CRAP...NO MORE SOCOM FELLAS...THAT BAD A$$ EXPERIENCE THAT ZIPPER CREATED HAS BEEN SHOT IN THE FACE...I HATE TO SAY IT NOW, BUT MAYBE SLANT SIX HAD A BETTER IDEA OF WHAT THE COMMUNITY REALLY WANTED. THE ONLY CHANCE US LOYAL SOCOM GAMERS HAVE NOW IS VOTING FOR SOCOM 2 IN HD...HERES THE LINK TO GET IT DONE...GOOD LUCK.. http://share.blog.us.playstation.com/ideas/2010/03/17/socom-ii-hd/ PEEP ME OUT ON YOUTUBE AND JOIN THE MAJORITY OF TRUE SOCOM FANS...10,000 + FOLLOWERS...THIS IS A PROTEST!!! http://www.youtube.com/user/Blackwido88?feature=mhum
Ladies and Gentlemen, its time to get your A game up, and put your C game down..... (Confrontation) LOL
i hope this game doesn't fail like the last 1 did.online only wasn't they way 2 go.
I am a hardcore socom2 OG, i put in well over 1000 hours on one of my names man, it was literally the best online game I think I ever played. Add my ass on ps3, macdaddyo. Cuz you best to know I'll be on that beta all day everyday when it comes out, and I'm playing nothing but classic with my mic. haha
Also I am hoping they bring back a lot of old classic maps. Ah. Fishhook. Crossroads. Desert Glory. Man the good days
Ah. SOCOM Vets unite!!! I have been there since day one! I skipped Confrontation and glad to see Zipper back where they belong. This was the best online multiplayer ever.

Apologies for the long comment.
@HaloOverrated Okay. That's fair. Understood about shooters standing out from the rest, a lot of games get lost in the few reigning shooters. What was great for this series, for me, was it's command system for single player in the PS2 title. If you had a headset, you could literally say your commands to your AI squad and it worked well for me, a few issues here and there but overall good. No headset? There's a list of commands to choose from. It was fast and relatively easy to use. Then there was multiplayer, it was the first game I played online on the PS2 and it was just... wow. Gotta experience it from that time. Then the most important thing to me from this series and the dev, Zipper Interactive, and like their previous game, MAG, is that they encourage playing as a team instead of lone-wolfing, even in SP. What other gamers would see from this is that they have been waiting for ZIpper Interactive's return to a "real" SOCOM. Confrontation wasn't that good. All I can say is just wait look for updates. Maybe if you're looking for a different feel from COD and military FPSs, SOCOM 4 would be the best thing out there.
looks awesome great game and with sick game types
I know what i'm playing this summer :)
This looks like MAG in 3rd person
ohh man i remember having so much fun with socom 2 & 3 multi. back in the day. hope this one can be as good.
It's interesting how the approached it. They included both, original hardcore Socom experience, which I prefer, but at the same time, new, more modern feel for those gamers who never got into the tactical and communication style this game is known for various reasons. I'm looking forward to SOCOM 4.
thats not real socom, dam and i was excited.
respawn and cover off? Yeah!!!!
Why do they keep calling this game Socom 4 U.S. Navy Seals...First of all, this isn't even Socom anymore...Second, The picture two inches to my left says, "Special Forces" Thanks Zipper for the MAJOR OVERHAUL where a MAJOR OVERHAUL wasn't really needed...I'll be seeing all of you on the Uncharted Forces 4 beta when it's released...That is of course if it even functions...If it's anything at all like Confrontation was on the day of it's beta release...I guess I'll see you a year after it's release...MUAAAHAHAHAH
im waiting for battlefield 3
looks like a true socom
@mikey1611 I've never played a SOCOM game before, so I'm curious as to why there's this much hype surrouunding it. I don't see how this is different from other online shooters; the guy in this interview failed to explain.
socom4 + move = mine mine mine
Impressive. I can't wait!!! @HaloOverrated Have you played SOCOM on the PS2? What don't you find special about SOCOM 4?
To all of you Socom 4 haters suck a big cock shame on all of you for trashing the game, Zipper is back baby why would anyone ever doubt that..shame on all of you...you know who you are...looking pretty dumb right about now
this could potentially be the best multiplayer ever
does it have Team Slayer? but it kinda looks like MAG
Hardcore mode all day
hope thats not just a trailer the ammount of players in the match i would hv the 32 players back to the military shooters again and i really liked the demo video but WHERE ARE THE SNIPERS ahhahaha joking.
I love it guys!!! I'm an original Socom player so I loved the no respawn element but I do enjoy a respawn element to other games and they seem to be making a nice mixture. They are staying true to us the fans for keeping that hardcore feel we fell in love with but also adding a nice twist to the game to keep new people drooling over a taste of what we players like. I love what they are doing with the game and how they are keeping up with the times and not just porting socom to the ps3 and not just adding stupid features "cough" CONFRONTATION "cough". Slant six gave it a good go however they needed to stick to the handhelds and leave the beast to developers like zipper. That's not to say the ideas they had were in vein, they had a interesting take especially with clans, but just executed them way wrong. Any thoughts?
HaloOverrated is obviously a typical Call of Duty pre-teen who has never played Socom 1 or Socom 2.
I don't see how this is any special.
Can't wait! This looks good. I miss playing Socom online. It's very addictive.
