- Jul 31, 2008 2:21 am GMTI don't post too much on these boards, but this is an incredibly helpful post with helpful links, the fact that this is on page 3 already is a crime! sticky this!

And at this point pre-release faq is pretty outdated at this point, why is it still up there?

www.nyawu.com - Now vers 2.5(?!) PSN: Nyawu - Jul 31, 2008 3:07 am GMTThis is a good guide for 'average' players.
just to be the devil's advocate, I used to play tekken professionally and let me tell you this:
While the guide you posted is GREAT for beginners and average players, it's useless from my standpoint.
Telling people not to worry about "playing the same as others"? Man, I LOL'D at this part. The thing about most people who try to play in tourneys and read message boards devoted to combos and fighting games is that once they figure out what moves are 'good' everybody just goes "THE OTHER ONES SUCK, NEVER EVER USE THEM" which is complete bull. What makes a PRO player different from an amateur player is adaptation and application. Go watch any Super Battle Opera or Tekken World Championship videos on youtube. You'll notice that the way most of the high level 'pros' play is different from the way 'american pros' play. The same goes for characters as well as moves. Often 'tier lists' are completel wrong and are corrected as time goes on because SKILLED and CREATIVE players come up with new ways to use moves that were originally thought to be useless.
The golden rule of fighting games are: Play the character YOU want to play the way YOU want to use him(or her!). Look to others for tips and tricks, but forge your own way. That's the only way to be TRULY good.
I know one of the best Bryan Fury (Tekken 5 characters) in the U.S. personally. The way he plays Bryan is unlike anything i've ever seen on any combo video or any explanation on the 'pro' way to use Bryan. When he dropped onto the Tekken scene it blew alot of people away. He INVENTED combos several years after tekken 5 was released. Combos that no one else was doing, or even knew existing. It's because he's a creative player, he mixes things up. That's what being good is all about.
Anyway, sorry for the wall of text. I don't want to seem like i'm bashing anything, I just disagree with the way most players view fighting games. This is a good guide for beginners.
Always remember to mix things up. Switch ups are essential

I can't stand arrogance.

Naw, really? Why don't you check the first thing I said about this faq?
This FAQ and general gameplay tips guide is made for all the new people
"Telling people not to worry about "playing the same as others"? Man, I LOL'D at this part. Once again, you competely missed the point. What scrubs talk about when they go "everybody plays the same" is when they talk about B&B. For someone who plays tekken, you would know "every" D.Jin player is going to use EWGF.
What I'm refering to is scrubs going "everybody uses EWGF, I'M GONNA BE DIFFERENT FOR THE SAKE OF BEING DIFFERENT" and not use what is effective. I'm speaking to beginners here. And did you completely miss the part where I said
"So, as such, try to limit yourself to the character’s 10~15 “best” moves to start with, learn what each move does and when to use them, THEN branch from there into more of the character’s moveset. Overwhelming yourself with 100 moves isn’t going to do much good if you don’t know the core ones well. ...other things to learn one by one is: common (B&Bs).... and branch out from there ..... Do not worry about "spaming" as some inexperience players would call it. If you don't practice and know all of your character's basic moves down to the last property, you'll never learn to setup the more advance ones.
The golden rule of fighting games are: Play the character YOU want to play the way YOU want to use him(or her!). Look to others for tips and tricks, but forge your own way. That's the only way to be TRULY good.
... which is what I said above. Good job not reading.

And I know some of the best players in the US, including for random characters like the LAW of Cali. Made one of the best Law combo collection in a video for T5. Big woop. Is a newbie going to do the same in his newbie stage? NO. Once again, way to miss the point. - Jul 31, 2008 12:43 pm GMTAnyway, sorry for the wall of text. Sorry, but you did seem like you were bashing the beginner guide for nothing but to say "HEY, THIS STUFF IS FOR NEWBIES, I'M TOO GOOD FOR THIS ****." Of course you're too good for this ****; everybody who already plays at a competitive level, esp from tekken, would know half this.... which is why there's TZ and caliburforum, VFDC, SRK and all those for them. -THIS- is for gamefaqs/gamespot. =) get the picture?

All I read was "derp derp butthurt u dun liek mai guide?"
Also, most players who play pro don't know all that stuff. What I was TRYING TO SAY was don't get people into the mindset of ignoring moves because they 'aren't good'
Good job reading. - Jul 31, 2008 1:06 pm GMTThanks for posting this for the folks that didn't play all the previous soul caliburs until their fingers/eyes bled. This should hopefully help prevent some topics/posts from happening.
- Jul 31, 2008 2:22 pm GMTExcept people generally should not do moves that are "not good".
SC is worse than Tekken in the trash moves department. There are crap load of moves that nobody should EVER DO because it's too slow, doesn't TC or TJ, has bad recovery, etc.
And if you actually had any reading comprehension skills, then you would understand I already told them to start out with basics first before going into the rest of the move list anyways. That way they have some ways of gauging the effectiveness of moves, somewhere to start out.
Are you going to tell a newbie to pay attention to the 100 something moves when they start out? That they should consider using non-top 10~15 moves in their game before they have any idea what actually -makes- a good move, much less how to setup for them?
Go back to TZ. I'm trying to get newbies to start understanding the fundamentals of the game, not trying to make them elite top mindgame expert evo quality over night.

www.nyawu.com - Now vers 2.5(?!) PSN: Nyawu - Jul 31, 2008 3:59 pm GMTGreat guide Wu, thanks. I'd still like to hear your personal thoughts about how the tiers are shaping up for SC IV.
For example, I was great with Zasalamel in III and now I find it almost impossible to win with him. And it seems they gave Cass and Sophi no nerfs whatsoever, so they are still looking to be 2 of the greatest fighters in the cast.
