I am doing a trick after trick but am not getting anywhere near a trick run gold medal. I can barely get silvers. I don't get what tricks can give you so many points. Even when I've got "TRICKY" going the points just seem to wallow.
The little tutorial with Zoe doesn't tell you anything & the manual is just as useless (wtf EA?) I used to be so great at the SSX games but this new one has so much depth that I am completely outta' my element.
So how're you pro's getting the job done? Thanx for any help & info all.

    Just as some general tips:

    - Everything gets much easier once you level up your characters and have access to higher level boards.

    - You don't just have to do trick off jumps. There are usually plenty of little, unmarked jumps you can do a quick trick off of. Just make sure you let go of all buttons before you hit the ground so you don't bail

    - Try to keep you trick combo going for the entire run. If you do a bunch of tricks, then stop doing tricks for about 3-4 seconds, the game "cashes in" your combo, which gives you the value of each individual trick times you current multiplier (you can get a higher multiplier by doing more tricks). Look ahead for jumps you can do tricks off of, and try to be doing a trick every few seconds so the game doesn't automatically cash in your combo. If you can't do any tricks, do a board press (hold circle or square) to keep your combo alive.

    - This is on of the most important things to understand in order to get golds on trick runs. If you're having trouble understanding what i'm talking about, look up some gold runs on youtube. The rider will most likely be constantly doing tricks and keeping their combo alive.

    - Avoid grind rails unless they are closer to the beginning. I'm pretty sure they are less efficient for scoring points later on during runs. Doing tricks on grind rails, however, is a great way to rapidly increase your combo multiplier so if you get on them early, you can increase your multiplier early as well and just ride it out for the rest of the run

    - If you do bail (crash and fall off your snowboard), don't bother rewinding, just restart the run. I'm pretty sure if you bail, you end up losing your combo or something, i don't know. I always restart if I bail

So yeah, those are just a few tips to getting better at trick runs. The most important tip of all is to practice though.

One hint, that helped me a lot in getting into the diamond bracket on GEs was following:

    1. Different trick combinations give a different amount of points
    2. The biggest-score points are circle-square and square-circle
    3. Pushing R2 while doing a trick tripples the trick score
    4. the two tricks mentioned above with R3 are roughly 50% more effective than a signature trick
    5. If you duplicate a trick stop directly and start a different trick
    6. in order to not get the duplicate you just have to alter two tricks.
    7. All this together means: alternate between circle-suare and square-circle with R2 plus get 20x mulitplier as fast as possible and you will be golden

get 20x mulitplier as fast as possible and you will be golden

Unnecessary, though not a bad thing to do anyway. But all you really need is 20x multiplier before you cash in your combo. Having the multiplier faster doesn't give you any more points, and may actually be costing you points depending on how you do it.

    For example...

    1) Do lots of quick tricks, including multiple tricks off of big jumps and rails to get to 20x as fast as possible, then just do big tricks to the end of the run and collect the whole thing at the finish line.

    2) Only do the biggest tricks you can, everywhere throughout the run, not worrying about how quickly your multiplier builds up, then collect the whole thing at the finish line.

#2 will net you more points than #1 will. Where #1 becomes better is if you intend to collect your combos periodically throughout the run. #1 (combined with periodic collecting of your combo) is a way to score high enough for Gold, even if you wreck a few times. #2 is how you set monster scores, but requires you to never wreck.

The FAQ has a huge section on tricks. Stick with Mac or the Japanese chick. Level them up to 11.

Of course you get more points in the end if your 20x Multiplier is maxed faster. Every trick gives you two different portions of points:

    1. 50% of the Points are awarded directly when landing the trick, multiplied by the current multiplier
    2. 50% of the Points are awarded when cashing the combo and are calculated based on the multiplier at this time

One exception is the trick from the heli. This gives you only direct points, i.e. 10.000 * the current multiplier. Out of my head I don't know if there are other tricks which only give direct points.
