God only knows what your version of a "good" MMO looks like jackliu. All I know is that your opinion is a tiny minority on this board, but you and all the other %&*^ won't let those who enjoy it do so in peace. What MMO have you played that you can convincingly argue is better? I played WoW for years and think this game is better in most respects, and it's the only one that is even CLOSE to the production quality of SWTOR. And if you say GW2 or Tera... please refer to real games that are already playable. The only other argument I can think you would have is Rift, which I admit is a good MMO, although it does get stale once you try all the (admittedly awesome and varied) ****s options.

Tiny minority on this board? are you sure? are we reading the same board? Oh you must be talking about the offical swtor board, where the most popular topic is "server is dead" "need server transfer asap". Again your opinion is your opinion I respect that. And my opinion is just as valid as yours.

WoW has also been out for 7 years and SWTOR has been out for not even 4 months. WoW took a couple of years before they broke the 2 million mark and SWTOR did it in a matter of months. Comparing sales to a fresh game compared to a game that has been out for 7 years is a pathetic attempt at trolling. Seriously if you're actually trying don't quit your day job.

This place isn't a good area to look for suggestions you've already been rushed by at least 1 troll.

Please excuse me, anyone that does not agree with fanboi on this board is a troll, obvious this game is perfect, it is the best game ever made in the human history, go buy it and playing it forever.

Shove that attitude where the sun don't shine Jack. Riddle didn't spew any fanboi over the top affection for the game, just warned the TC about the trolling issue here. Heck, the other poster (besides you) was obviously trolling. You're hatred is far worse than any fanboi love. You're over the top knee jerk reaction goes to show that the issue here isn't fanboys but the trolls, flamers, and haters...go figure.

Is the game a lot like WoW...yeah, but then again so are 90% of the other MMOs out there. Why, because they all use the same basic MMO formula that was created before WoW.
Space combat is very much a starfox clone. Cute, but not very impressive. They claim to have plans for future space combat that is much more involving, but we'll see.

If you liked Kotor (or just enjoy the SW universe) and wow, and would prefer blasters and lightsabers to swords and bows, then SWTOR is a great option.

The stories, morality, and companions really make your character come alive instead of just being a statsheet with an avatar.

As with any MMO, it's a work in progress. A lot has changed (mostly for the best), and many more changes are coming.

Is it grindy at end game? Yeah, but again, what MMO isn't?

It's not dying, it's not thriving, it's surviving. The vast majority of servers are doing just fine population wise. There are a couple that have small populations that do hinder gameplay, but they are a very small minority. There's no reason to believe that this game will ever go F2P. EA would be more likely to shut it down all together than go F2P if the pop ever fell below 500K.

Is it the end all be all of MMOs? No. But it's fun if you like the standard WoW-esque casual MMO formula. If you're more of a min-maxing stat junky that thinks story and flavor get in the way of gameplay, then stay away, this game isn't for you.

Interest you posts personal attack before you actually post anything useful, did I hit a nerve? Again your opinion is just your opinion and I was not the first one to throw out the word "troll" out there. But yes, thanks for agreeing with me, this game is indeed 90% like WoW. And thanks for agreeing with me on the shooter on rail space combat as well.

Yo do know WoW was the one first popularize the MMO market right? They achieve 2 million user from a industry where there was only 200k at most. Swtor come out in a world where MMO game are wide spread, and where most gamers were sick of WoW and looking for a replacement. Oh and ib4 you saying wow had nothing when release compare to swtor, Swtor is competing with WoW TODAY, not WoW 8 years ago. Oh and who is keep throwing out the "troll" word, are you nervous or something? That line is getting old, please come out with something new, oh wait you can't. Just like how EAware can't come out with anything new as well. Oh and thanks for the advice, I enjoy my place of work just fine.

I was under the impression that Everquest was the first MMO to popularize MMOs. I had heard of Ultima Online, but only from someone who actively played that and a few other MMOs (mainly MUDs.) Everquest I had heard about from several people sometime after that, not to mention that it was even in the news and had earned the nickname "Evercrack." I'm not sure what the subscription numbers were from back then, and I'm not even going to guess if it was higher or lower than 200k, but I'd imagine it was a lot.

This was back in... maybe 2000? 2001? Probably early to mid-2001 for the Everquest thing, to give a timeframe.

Yep, Everquest brought the MMO genre into focus, but that game was hardly mainstream like WoW. And yes it only had about 200k users at peak, WoW was the one that make it mainstream and made the genre such a huge success that is today. And because of it, a lot of company is trying to take over, but no one have yet succeeded, because they all made the same mistake, you cannot beat WoW, by copy WoW. Not even with the most expensive game ever made in history.

The Answer is no, don't buy it.

If you really wanted the game, you'd have bought it by now.

If you are just looking for a new MMO, Tera launches in a couple weeks, The Secret World launches in June, and Guild Wars 2 launches sometime after.

If you are just bored, there is a HUGE variety of free MMOs now.

WoW's current content is from Cata... Cata had 3 Raids(No one counts BH as a real Raid), 7 areas, 2 Races, 10 Dungeons, and no new classes.

SWTOR has 2 Raids at launch, many different leveling areas, 16 FPs (8 for each faction keep in mind WoW's 10 was combined because Horde and Alliance did the same ones), 8 different races, 8 different classes, and many other things.

There we go I compared SWTOR to the most recent addition to WoW instead of WoW at launch.

And IMO if you want a game that has great stories, decent PvP, decent Raids, Star Wars feeling to it, Lightsabers, 8 ACs, and you're tired of how WoW is going (Casual to an extreme) I would say grab it or at least try the Trial for it. This game isn't perfect and realistically it will never be prefect but that is normal in MMOs because they are on such a huge scale one minor issue can completely mess up a feature in the game.

Fail game is still fail, no matter how much you want to clone WoW. But, it has voice over right? That must be important.

They have fixed lag issues in 1.2 by a ton I know because I raid often and I do World Bosses weekly. DPS meter isn't even in WoW it is a mod. People constantly complain about Group Finder to begin with... Most of WoW's action is in the Capital cities no one goes back to starter areas unless they are ganking. Well I told TC what I think and you called me a troll, therefore it justify me calling you a fanboi in return. (btw revenue =/= profit)

The reason he called you a troll, is simply because you are. You rush in every topic that pops up, and spew the same tired BS all day every day, and call everyone who disagrees with your foolish arguments a fanboi.

If you would at least attempt to present a decent argument, you might not get labeled as such. But no, it's always the same. "Derp it's a single player game derp", "Herp, it's a WoW clone herp", "Herpy Derpy all it has is VO, and I know 99% skip it anyway Herpity Derp".

Basically for future reference, if you don't want to labeled a troll, don't present yourself as one. As you know, if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck...

Fail clone sold 1.5 million on pre order on marketing hype just proves EAware done great marketing for the game, and yes fail game only sold half the number as pre order is still fail. Also remember, not everyone of those 2 million are still playing. And guess what? DPS meter, group finders, they still exist in WoW before SWTOR come out and they are still very popular in WoW, but somehow fail clone failed to "clone" them. I don't care what you find hard to believe or not, it is your personal belief. And again my boy, what did I told you about compare swtor TODAY to WoW 8 years ago? You just can't resist it can you? And yes, there is one thing that we both agree on, Rift is also a wow clone, just like swtor. Except Rift have better mmo mechanic than swtor at release. But clone is still just another clone, no matter what skin it have.

jackliu239 posted... Well I told TC what I think and you called me a troll, therefore it justify me calling you a fanboi in return. (btw revenue =/= profit)The reason he called you a troll, is simply because you are. As you know, if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck...---Evening news is where they begin with 'Good evening', and then proceed to tell you why it isn't.!

Oh hi there Trend..... ok I give up, you are by far the most powerful fanboi reside in this place. Ok you can take over now, I don't want to compete in the special Olympic with you.

    Trend?

And there you go proving my point. Instead of attempting an actual response it's your usual dribble. "herp fanboi derp"

You wrote " Fail clone that shattered records and did what Vanilla WoW took years to do in a matter of weeks... yup sounds like a pretty big fail."

Compare vanilla WoW (8 years ago) with swtor today. And yes I agree with you, it doesn't make any sense.
