Its so ridiculous when people this. No, I'm not going to gimp my character because Bethesda did a horrible job balancing their crafting systems and ultimately their broken loot system.
If the crafting is so ridiculously overpowered, smithing and enchanting that is, then NO, I'm not going to just ignore how powerful the crafting is so I can preserve the loot system and keep it entertaining.
It is 100% objective to say that smithing and enchanting ruin all incentive to improve your loot because you can get the absolute best gear in the game via smithing and enchanting at a low level, which makes it pointless to loot chests or enemies for the rest of your multi-hundred hour playthrough since you can't get better gear and you already have the means to infinite gold via enchanted Iron daggers.
This loot system is broken and crafting is the problem. It ruins all incentive to get better gear and I'll never ignore it or gimp myself just because Bethesda did a poor job with their system designs.

You aren't gimping your character by not using it. You can still use it wisely and evenly without exploiting it.
This is nothing new, your argument is nothing revolutionary, and you should really learn to not whine so much.

you absolutely are gimping yourself by not using the crafting system. The gear you can craft makes ALL other gear obsolete and you can make it obsolete at level 5. If you don't use the crafting systems, then regardless of whatever items you find, it'll still be extremely less powerful than what you could create via crafting. This is called gimping yourself.

guns don't kill people. people do.

...Except that you have to go out of your way to make such broken gear. Sure, the iron daggers are worth more when they're enchanted, but... that's kind of the point of having a trade skill. The only way you can "abuse" that system is if you do the merchant killing trick.

If you think it is broken, then you are mistaken. That's why people advise you not to use it. I think Skyrim's smithing is a good step forward. I created some good role-play around my shield+sword character who used a skyforge steel sword for the whole game, enchanting it toward the end.
I've never wanted to do that until now. Most games are, 1. find sword. 2. find better sword. 3. ditch old sword.

you don't "go out of your way" to break or exploit or take advantage of the overpowered crafting systems. It is ridiculously easy and takes little effort to level smithing and enchanting to 100. Leveling smithing to 100 off iron daggers is so ridiculously lazy on Bethesda's part. You should never be able to level a crafting skill to maximum level off of a beginning recipe.
Its called poor balance, which ruins ALL incentive to get better loot since you can have the best loot in the game at level 5-10. Bethesda needs better system designers. They need to go the diablo route with their loot, or at least have a lot more flasher stats on them.
Its such a joke that the only stats mage gear can have is "regenerate mana" or "cost less mana."

WOMP WOMP! Check the latest patch flamechamp. Moving on...

I agree, TC. The game shouldn't rely on the player to make it balanced. That's bad game design and assumes that the player knows of the issue before hand.
Fortunately the "leveling off of an iron dagger" issue was fixed, but prices weren't. Bethesda could fix this by making items unable to be exploited for money, by for example, reducing everything to a maximum value of fifty drakes.
I also disagree with making craftable equipment the best in the game. The best should need to be found, or gotten from a special quest. Daedric artifacts should be the absolute best, but obviously not full sets.

Riiiight. By level 5. Doing nothing but making iron daggers and enchanting them isn't going out of your way to exploit the skills, just like standing around getting hit by a small army of skeevers on novice to max out your block and armor skills isn't an exploit. Just like sneaking near an enemy behind a door isn't an exploit.
