Another 3 month game?
- Jul 1, 2012 10:40 pm GMT
EA has a tendency to make MMO's that are only intended for about 2 or 3 months of play before everyone mass migrates to the next game or just stops playing, save a dedicated fanbase they can milk for cash and maybe force to buy a low content expansion full of cut content withheld from the initial launch.
But there's a lot of optimisim surrounding this game for some reason that I haven't seen with other games. What do you think, is this another cash grab that will get neglected and mass abandoned a month or two in, or do you think this will be one of those games you can still enjoy a year from now?

I don't know if in fact this attempt at an innovative no-class, no-level (sort of) MMORPG will have legs, but the common dismissal of it as an EA game is flat wrong. It is a Funcom game and the only role EA has is in its distribution.

It certainly isn't going to last long with a subscription. There's some great stuff in the game, but there are tons of problems as well. The ability system is totally open, but most abilities are downright boring (STACK THIS DEBUFF, DEAL EXTRA DAMAGE ON EVERY FIFTH CRIT) and the resource systems aren't interesting in the slightest.

This is a question that can go many directions. With some intense playing of this I found many problems that were not resolved, that comes much later in the game.
Those coming from beta probably can reach end game in a week, intense players probably not far behind. Some enjoyed the slow pace, and took there time, but that can only last so long.
No class left a bitter taste to me, just a easier method to nerf a class, that can be fallen back on that there is all the other abilities you can use, and your character is not completely destroyed, as in the past.
World domination kept me out of the game by itself, just way over powered. This is the same concept taken with AOC, and a buff given to a specific group, so they can overwhelm all others in pvp. If groups need advantages to pvp against others than why not just give a number of people hacks? This I see becoming dominated by one faction at some point. When, has been the question from the start, and what faction to join when this takes place. This also effects all, qve, raids, pvp.
End result of abilities left a unbalance, only certain combinations to use, where most fell in categories of never be used. Many factors involved to reach this result, from to much other spell builders, to time recharges, making them not usable, versus surviving.
Later game content also eliminates established builds with such things as non removable buffs against a high percentage of play.
Deeper game loot, terrible drop rates, but when final results are accomplished, can add heavy perks.
Initial main mission is entertaining as well as many of the other quests, this will keep many going for the first life of the game.

I am shocked they went with the subscription based model. With Age of Conan, there was a ton of burnt bridges left demolished and Guild Wars 2 releases in August.
I think the only MMO that will ever get away with having a sub fee will be WoW, even TOR will be free-to-play within a year (at best). I am hoping GW2 starts the revolution of the sub-less MMO.
Secret Wars, just like Age of Conan, will have a 3 month life span, TOPS!

that would be just the hype you received because they made it look appealing.. truth is it doesn't come close to it and I never really thought about the 3 month thing with EA but it makes a lot of sense and I think you hit it spot on.

That's never EA's only role. Anyone who buys a game with an EA logo on it deserves what they get.

- Jul 9, 2012 1:37 am GMTSounds like most of you in this thread basically wish for this game to die. Beggars can't be choosers have fun going back to... Um... Have fun waiting for GW2.... Can't think of any other mmo to even play right now, that wouldn't be a complete waste of time. You can have fun playing SWTOR or RIFT, ew.

For me this was a 3 day game....very boring and buggy! It honestly feels like a singleplayer game rather than an MMO.
But if you're into complex puzzles, then this might be for you, otherwise stay away from this title.
