Act 1 is a pain, it's very hard. You need to move and roll a lot, use bombs and knifes to keep foes at a distance. Once act 2 starts it's much better and with a good build and gear, the game can become even easy.
I only played Dark mode, twice, it was great. But like i said, act 1 hurts a lot!

I'd reccomend playing through on normal or hard first, but if you already have, then yes, dark difficulty is a lot of fun, actually I found it easier than normal, since I was used to the combat by then. If you do all of the side quests to level up geralt before going on through the story, then you should be okay, although the end boss for chapter 2 is really cheap, and 3's boss is not terribly difficult after you memorize the attack pattern, but is unreasonably long(takes ages to whittle down it's health).
But yeah, dark difficulty is usually a blast.
