Rinse, wash, and reuse? The new gaming pricing system?
It has come to my attention that some games may be rehashing something that has been already released in a earlier game. The games that will go under my microscope are Halo 3:O.D.S.T., Watchmen: The End is Nigh The Complete Collection, and Left 4 dead 2. These games have come under the cry of gamers claiming "Foul". All,except possibly Watchmen have been under major attack of being the same thing sold under a differnt name with prettier graphics.
I will first address Watchmen, this game has not nearly gotten as much attention as the other two games mentioned. If you are unaware this games is based of a movie based off a Graphic Novel. Now the reason it states The complete collection is because it is in two parts. However when the first DLC was released for a whopping $20, or 1600 Microsoft points, there was news that there is a second part to it, however I believe it was not announced until when the second DLC released you can buy both on a disc for $30 dollars in the U.S.
If had bought the first DLC and planned on the downloading the second one they have lost money. If the 2nd one is for sale at the $20 price tag, same as the first DLC, he has lost ten dollars. If he caves and buys the disc, which would be a good Idea for the simple reason that Watchmen pt.1 takes up about 1 whole gig of memory on the 360, he would lose $20. This is obviously a lose- lose scenario, except maybe freeing up the hard drive
Only if this is the only Watchmen game you have bought you got a good deal, if not you just over payed on fun but VERY repetive gameplay. Not as bad as what I have stated but how can a company make this kind of oversight and screw their customers?Next on the menu is Left 4 Dead 2. This game has been savagely assaulted by fans for too soon of a release, not focusing enough on the first games DLC, and just a carbon copy of l4D1 just prettier looking and a few new features. I will hold out until I get the knowlogde of having more campaigns or not untilI star judging the game. From the looks we have seen so far a lot of it is recycled. However it has been heavily modified from the first game, with new zombies, new locales, new weapons, and possibly a more ferocious director. I have not been following this religiously so if there is a major change please inform me.
So it seems to me with all the new changes L4D2 is a lot more then just a rehash. It will be better then L4d1, even with its earlier then normal valve release dates, right? Right!?
Well, last in the scrambler is what I see as the main point in the entire fiasco. Halo 3 O.D.S.T the exciting add-on to Halo 3, an entirely new campaign experience, firefight mode, and a key to Halo:Reach beta all on one disc, but wait on disc two is everything you have bought before f you currently own Halo 3 and have all the avabile map packs except the last one Mythic Map Pack 2, known as Mythic 2.0 from here on, which will come with this disc and is the only incentive to buy the 2nd disc at all. Now if you just got Halo 3, and don't have any new buyable maps, then the second disc will welcome you to the back room of its exclusive club the perfect deal for someone like that. However if you have bought even one Map Packs BOOM! Money shot.[Sorry couldn't resist the lame pun
]But,seriously if you cut the pricing into what's its worth a loyal fan is getting screwed over huge. Put in about ten dollars for just inclusion of the basics of the "Complete Halo 3 multiplayer experience"
meaning MP its self, forge, theater and shipped maps. Now add thirty more dollars if you bought, all three map packs. So far you are re-buying $40,$30 if you got Heroic for Free, of what the loyal the loyal fan has. The only real reason to include the second disc is for Mythic 2.0. At worst a fan has just lost $40 when he receives that game. Leaving $20 worth of stuff on disc one, Campaign, firefight, and Halo:Reach beta. Now wait, you're saying somethings for free there is only $20 for disc 1 and there are three items. Nay. Halo:Reach beta is a way to get there game tested for free, I mean if anyone knows how to completely destroy the boundreys of a map its the fans, who else will report the awesome glitches to youtube for Bungie to find and fix that one of their payed testers, may have missed. So, to me this is just a huge rip off. Also, Mythic 2.0 is exclusive to O.D.S.T., if will always be like this, no one knows.
Now that you have succesfully made it through my ramblings, rantings, and most likely numerous typos its time to end the madness. How could game Devs/Publisher miss so much when releasing a game and pricing it and the ways they could better benefit the consumer and have a better fanbase and happy customers.
Did the guys behind Watchmen actually put $20 of work per DLC to make it worth it? Or did they just cash in a hotname? Is Valve actually cashing in their chips behind their fans backs? Or are they just really excited about chainsaws, frying pans, and zombies heads exploding? Finally, why couldn't Bungie or M$ think ahead of that most Halo players have all of the DLC and this only benefits new players? Why couldn't they release two versions one with the second at the full price and one without at the price of thirty dollars.$40 at most? If they did that they could release Mythic 2.0 as DLC and still get their juice and everyone wins. Why can't more companies think like that a promote better deals and they would probably make more money out of that in the long run.
So is this just the beginning of a new, and bad, gaming trend? Or is it just a bad string of deals in a row? Will there ever be a win-win for the consumer and the companies? And lastly will the rabbit ever get his Trix Cereal? Thanks for reading and bearing with me.
