    My latest thoughts on DLC

I read a Kotaku article that was an interview with EA's CEO John Riccitiello where he discussed the possibility of making money off pirates by selling them DLC. This sparked up some of my recent thoughts on how I feel about DLC and I wrote up a lengthy comment about it. Maybe it wasn't entirely on-topic, but I submitted it anyways. I figured I'd copy/paste it here too:

I don't pirate games, but the existence of Day 1 PAID DLC sure as hell makes me want to.

I can understand "expansion" content. I can understand day one patches and updates. I can also understand entire games being digitally distributed. What I refuse to support is having to pay for content that SHOULD of and COULD have been on the disk.

Isn't it somewhat implied that when you go to a store and buy a game that you are getting the entire game, not just a piece of it where you end up having to buy the rest piecemeal?

Don't advertise a game to me that shows all this great stuff that I want to play to then turn around and hold it back until I give up more money AFTER I already tossed down money at retail. (I admit this doesn't really happen but my paranoia and untrust for big companies makes me angry that it might).

The idea of having packed in free DLC codes even ticks me off. We are really close to the point where entire boss fights will be left out as day 1 DLC.

If there is one thing I hate more than anything in the corporate world it's micro-transactions. Years ago it was called "Nickel and diming", but that didn't sound very nice so they sent marketing teams at it.

    Anywho... rant over.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Campaign done

I just wrapped up the single player campaign for MW2. What a turd. Infinity Ward managed to completely surprise me by pulling off the impossible and making a single player campaign that was actually worse that the mess from COD4. Everything in this new chapter of Modern Warefare is the exact same, only turned down a notch on the quality level. How you can turn something down past 0 is truly a mystery.

The characters are forgettable. The amount of "batitude" is again through the roof. The story is dull beyond belief. The dialog is phoned in and impossible to understand at certain points. The plot if a massive cliche when it makes sense, and when it doesn't it can't remember what happend moments before so it just tosses out another "BIG MOMENT!!". All of the "intense" scenes are actually extremely boring and the only emotional response that can come from them is a whole lot of eye rolling. I've seen Stalone demonstrate more compelling action sequences, and his movies are mostly garbage.

I'm still completely stunned as to why most people can't see these turds for what they actually are.

Going to play some more MP before tossing up a review. Sadly the review will probably just be a cut and paste job from the one I wrote for COD4 since this is basically the exact same game. I'll toss in comments about all the new stuff they managed to screw up too, but mostly it's just as bad if not worse.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Day 1 impressions

Jeez it's the same damn game as COD4. They fixed NOTHING. The netcode still sucks beyond belief causing an unbearable 1/2 second lag for motion, but gunfire is still instant. I can't believe how long this has been overlooked. It blows my mind that no one seems to give a crap that this game is so inferior. Blinded by the pretty colors I guess. The review I wrote for COD4 could literally by copied and pasted for this game without any changes and it would be 100% accurate. Maybe a ding on the final score down to 5.0 is appropriate since the game is basically nothing more than a colorful new coat of paint. Releasing a game at retail for full price when it could have been patched in to the old game is a joke.

Probably the last COD game I ever buy. Infinity Ward is in "milk the cash cow" territory and won't be leaving any time soon.

At least I got some cool nightvision goggles to walk around my house with.
