I decided to replace the 9800GT that came with my XPS 420 with a GTX 260. After much searching I settled on EVGA's GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 Superclock Edition. A nice card that is overclocked out of the factory and runs roughly at the speed of the reference GTX 280 board.
I was worried that the PSU may not have enough power to power the card but after speaking to some Dell experts on the Dell Community forum I was told that the 425W is the power supplies standard wattage and not its peak (which is what most PSUs are actually rated at).
I've tested my setup for hours now and am happy that the GTX 260 runs perfectly with my setup.
/me hugs his Dell with the following specs;
Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz
4 GB RAM
896 MB EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 Superclocked Edition
1 TB HDD
BD Drive
Dell Accellerator
Hauppauge HDTV Card
Sound Blaster X-fi Sound Card
... blah ... blah ... blah
+ 24" Dell UltraSharp Monitor
If you're looking for a nice/reasonably cheap video card upgrade I can't recommend EVGA's card highly enough. 10/10
