The woes of a Mega Man fan in 2008
No Mega Man lately. No real Mega Man anyways, all they make these days are those dumb BattleNetwork and StarForce series games. I owned BattleNetwork 2, and it was pretty good but ultimately I just am not super into the series. It's not true Mega Man. My brother has the ZX games, and I have played those a bit, and they are pretty good. But crazy hard.
What I want is more original Mega Man and Mega Man X games. Capcom has frakked up the last games in both series. Mega Man 8 on the PS1 was just wierd and had possibly the worst voice acting in any video game, ever. Mega Man x6 on the PS1 was a sloppy made game and the level designs were done by somebody on acid.
I recently got a hold of some used copies of Mega Man x7 and Mega Man x8, two games I had never owned on the Playstation 2 (not sure why I never bought them originally, well i guess mostly because of the bad reception by fans and critics). X7 is barely better than X6 IMO. The voice acting is barely tolerable, the camera angles and controls in the new 3D sequences are awful, and the gameplay is just feels different than what you expect from an X game (and NOT in a good way!). And while X8 certainly isn't a great game, it is definitely a step in the right direction. Voice acting is very good, the 3D gameplay from X7 is gone, and the game doesn't feel sloppily made like X7.
The two best Mega Man games in recent times? Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X and Mega Man Powered Up! both on the PSP. They were remakes of the X and Original series first games (respectively) and they freaking rocked, both as Mega Man games and as portable games.
Capcom I want two things. New entries in both series that conclude their storylines and are as good a games as the orginals. Second is the continuation of the remake games on the PSP. They were so good.

On Jeff G
REGARDING THE AWESOMENESS THAT WAS JEFF
Jeff was an integral part of Gamespot for pretty much the majority of it's history. I have always widely respected his reviews, and on the hotspot (gamespot's podcast) I have enjoyed and gained much from his insights (as well as his hillarious comments). I have videos on my computer from gamespot of jeffs hillarious review antics on gamespot. I think this website and it's fanbase may never recover from his loss.
REGARDING THE HOTSPOT "SPEAKS" DECEMBER 4th PODCAST
This was a great listen. If you want a Gamespot take on the issue without any PR spin (like the two "news posts" regarding the issue. my gosh. they may be in the news section, but they are not written by the gamespot news staff. those are total garbage I hope all of you see that) then you ought to give this a listen.
They speak a lot about how it was poorly handeled and how none of the gamespot editorial staff was informed of the change. Regarding the firing, they referred to "management" and even their parent company CNET a couple times. You could tell in their voices and in what they said that it was all legit and they truly were pissed and hurt over this.
But here is my problem, you guys said that you were very much not happy with how it was handeled, but there was very little info given on the reasons! The only thing they specifically said is that Jeff wasn't fired for his low score for Kane and Lynch. They didn't even say whether or not they were pissed about the reasons (they just they were pissed about the handling). Was Kane and Lynch part of it and not just the only reason? Did it have nothing to do with it? I wish they could tell us!
BEST JEFF MOMENTS
Well, every hotspot and on the spot was great. The specific videos I have are these:
-GravityGames XBOX review
-DragonBall Z Ultimate Battle 22 PS1 review
-Today On Gamespot Monday 12/12/05
I don't know if you can still download that TOGs vid, but if you can do it!
Also, if you go to Carrie's (former gamespot employee) user page, she has a video (well it's of the whole staff and they are all hillarious) of the staff's gut reactions to the Wii (a video that couldn't be officially posted on the site because of the language content.) You could probably find a link to her page on any GS staff's friends lists.
FINAL THOUGHTS
We need to keep supporting Gamespot, people. This "I'M LEAVING GAMESPOT 4EVER!!!!!!!111111111111" thing is total garbage. The rest of the staff rocks, and Gamespot will continue on. It's what Jeff would want us to do, I think.
That said, whoever "management" is referring to, you guy(s) gotta be the biggest moron(s) ever. This should never happen again.

My UT3 Demo Woes
Bah. Okay as a preface, my computer isn't the best. Its a lower-end dell. But I have given it both a memory and graphics upgrade (1GB and 128 mb, respectively). Also I have a great widescreen monitor, which I have at 1440 x 900.
So, I downloaded the Unreal Tornament III Demo, and gosh am I having issues. If I run it at the settings my computer should be able to handle, it is slow and choppy. If I lower the settings considerably, it is slow, choppy, and it looks like crap. Isn't that like...wrong? If I have a decent machine, shouldn't I be able to handle a new game smoothely at lower settings? I don't care if it doesn't look amazing. I just want the dang thing to be playable! Heck, I could run UT2004 just fine at great settings. Shouldn't I be able to play this game at at least that level of graphical quality? This is all I ask for, really.
I want to get a new computer, but if PC games are going to continue to be unfriendly and system...hoggy (...system hoggy?), I guess I will just wait for the half-ass console ports of all the awesome PC games commin out.
