why Mass Effect 3?!?!?! and where is ToZ OfT?!?!?!?! this two things tell me that this list is made by a bunch of idiots...

And you have Batman AC in there and you don´t have Skyrim?? I think they included only one title of the series that have a lot of games but that should not be like that... F off with this list...

There are plenty of games better than Mass Effect 3. Why did they even include the 2010s? Lots of missing games. I guess side scrolling beatemups aren't very popular anymore. All they can do now is make fun of them like they did with Double Dragon Neon.

Knights of the Old Republic is pretty sweet you should play it. Shadow of the Colossus is awesome, glad Ico made it there too. Silent Hill 2 should be there instead of one.

No Tomb Raider? GTA III but not Vice City, and the 80s flew by with no Elite!!!!. Minecraft doesn't exist but SimCity 2000 does?

Congrats on playing so many though. Shame the original list was compiled by a doofus who read about games rather than collect them

Why the f is none of the God of War games on this list!!!!

Played a good 50, or so of these. Good to see games like Thief & Deus Ex getting some recognition. Few glaring omissions I can see, especially from the 80s: Double Dragon, Final Fight, Afterburner, Golden Axe, Ghouls n Ghosts, Dizzy, Bomberman. Could name more, but would be here all day !  Can't believe you've not played FFVII, or Star Wars: KOTOR. Arguably, 2 of the best RPGs ever made. Although if you do plan on playing them, best free up a couple of months !

lol

By what logic NBA jam, NFL, or badminton super stars are more important than Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Resident Evil 2 & 3, Tomb Raider II, Civilization II, Command & Conquer Red Alert, or Gran Turismo? And I'm talking only for the 90s..

I saw this the other day. It's tricky to get concensus for 1000 titles let alone 100 so in that regards I think it's a great list.

A third of that list is joke. The guy that made the list isn't even a gamer. Rather disappointing. :/

@soulless4now I think he is a gamer alright. I bet he has a lot of games in his smart phone.

Played?  Most.

Owned and yet to be played?  Even more.

And I know this isn't that kind of blog and I really know we don't want to devolve into subjective gamer nerd outrage, but can Ocarina of Time, Resident Evil 4 and Gran Turismo get a table dance?

I think I have played 20 plus gmaes on the list. Nice list btw.

I've played at least 76 of them and have seen about 90 of them played or played later games in the series. No Fallout 2, Planescape Torment, or Baldurs Gate 2 ruin the list for me, also not having a lot of the great adventure games, good that they have Grim Fandango though.

Solitaire?

You need to play Chrono Trigger

@Legolas_Katarn HAHAHA I did the same thing. But, technical to TIME's standards, it is a "game".

JodyR

@Legolas_Katarn Shoot, I just realized they didnt LIST BALDUR'S GATE. :(

It's just too bad they left out "Dragon's Lair".  :(

Their mentioning of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus is enough to make me content.

Contra

Mega Man

Punch-Out!!

Street Fighter II

Chrono Trigger

Resident Evil

Metal Gear Solid

Deus Ex

GTA3

Oblivion

FFVII...

Are all on my personal favs list. But they left out Unreal Tournament, Ninja Gaiden II (8bit NES version) and a crapload of others. I can't complain too much though. I'm actually quite impressed that a mainstream mag/site included some of the aforementioned. Especially Chrono Trigger and the original Deus Ex!

JodyR

@nate1222 I loved Unreal Tournament as well! Then, UT2k4 onslaught mode later on was my favorite of all time. :)

I've played 42 of them.Seeing the names of some of those games brings back memories of happy times when I was a kid, especially the NES classics.

Played 56 games on this list. Chrono Trigger is probably the one game I haven't played and want to.

I'm at 38 out of 100 played.

Speaking of which, you my dear, need to play Chrono Trigger sometime in 2013 or you lose all credibility and tarnish your name both for the immediate future and for generations to come.

True story.

@NeonNinja I know! I used to love the little avatar I had on the site, and people would tell me what, you never played? I should check it out!

Played 31 of the games listed. Lot more than I thought.

Good to see Okami and Demon's Souls get some recognition, at any rate. Those two deserve it.

That said: I've played Oregon Trail (also on an Apple computer), Pong, Asteroids, Breakout, Space Invaders, Adventure, Defender (awesome game),  Pac-man, Castle Wolfstien, Donkey Kong, Frogger, Galaga, Joust, Pitfall, Kings Quest, Tetris, Super Mario Bros, Castlevania, Tetris, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid (the version on Metroid Zero Mission), Contra, MegaMan, NetHack, Prince of Persia, Solitare, Sonic, Street Fight 2, Mortal Kombat (fond memories of ripping my friend apart, and him being amazed that I was better then him at his game, which I never played before), Doom, Myst, Marathon (awesome game), Sim City 2000,  Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Grim Fandingo, Metal Gear Solid (which actually had a decent PC port), Star Craft, Deus Ex (one of my favorite games ever), The Sims (I only played it because my sister got it, I got bored really fast), Halo (Also a decent PC version), Splinter Cell, KOTOR (best Star Wars RPG), HL 2, WOW (oh, how I grew to hate that game, so boring), TOS4 (was my favorite RPG game until I got Skyrim), BioShock,  Portal, Braid, Angry Birds, Batman AC. So, I played about 50 from their little list.

starduke

50 out of 100 isn't bad, especially since a lot of them were made before I was even born or started playing video games.

Well we all know which game Time preferred this year.

And why should a care what a publication that isn't dedicated to gaming says? Sure, it's a sign that video games are becoming more mainstream, but is that even a good thing?

c_rake
c_rake moderator moderator like.author.displayName like.author.displayName 2 Like

@starduke I'd say so. Means they're becoming more entrenched in our culture, which can only help things along.

starduke

@c_rake Take a small amount of soda, wine, or juice, and pour it into the bottom of a glass. Taste it, you can taste just that, right? Then fill the rest of the glass with water. It dilutes it, so it doesn't taste as strongly as whatever you put in the glass first, and probably doesn't taste very good either. You might not even be able to taste it at all.

I counted 70 that I played, although a few of them I only played bits and pieces of. There's a few strange selections on that list (Cave Story?). But it looks like you are as happy as I am to see Quake on there. And yes you should play Katamari :)

Nice to see that SotC and Arkham City made the list, though I'm surprised Halo 3 ain't on there...

You have quite a lot of work to do, Miss Jody. I'm absolutely stunned that you haven't played Wii Sports, even more so that you haven't played Shadow of the Colossus. Time to get to that backlog!

a lot of final fantasy are going to be pissed off that FF7 isn't in bold also time magazine can s*** it why isn't HL1 there wait just reached the 2000 they lost me at angry birds

JodyR
JodyR moderator moderatorstaff

@tttooooozzz Oh yeah! I noticed a variety of my favorites weren't on there, and I recall playing Half-life for the first time and thinking it was a huge step from the FPS genre. HL1 definitely should have been in there, but this is a magazine that isn't dedicated to our industry. .

@JodyR i haven't played most of them but again i was born in 91 so anything in the 80s was before i was born and i still played 3 of those :P
