All About Justforvisit
Well, I just posted in a topic today in the Primary Games Discussion about if Nintendo will manage to "get away" with another underpowered console on the market and my answer became way longer than I thought it would and was intendend, in the end it became a whole statement I like to keep here for everyone to discuss about and see it seperated because I guess it is a whole topic on it's own. So here's my post:
Didn't read anything except the topic title but my answer to it:
They would have been very well able to "get away" with the Wii if they wouldn't have focused on casual gaming in the entire life span.
It would have been okay to mix core games like Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 with casual games in the store shelves for the first, maybe first two business years of it's lifetime and then focus back on core games as many people wanted.
The "Operation Rainfall Incident" showed that it was neccessary, and when the first JP Trailers on YT rised about The Last Story every Wii owner and it's mom (haha, literally in this case ) wante to have this game.
Nintendo UK / Europe and Nintendo of America heavily missed the point and failed to realize how many core gamers had bought their Wii because it first seemed as if it isn't only a innovative console but also will bring out good and innovative core games because with worse graphics and weaker tech you HAVE to be innovative to keep your fans interested.
But instead no developer wanted o go through the hassle and actually start THINKING, especially not when they just could shell out party and casual games as if there's no tomorrow and get the same amount of money out of it without much work or development / thinking process.
The problem in this bill though is that a casual gamer might be interest in stuf like this for well, let's say 6 months, a year or so and many even don't buy the stuff themselfes then but go to friends or other family members who own a Wii and casual games.
A core gamer though will always be interested in new and interesting to play games for 1, 5, 10 years or even a whole lifetime.
And because of this let down of Nintendo and especially the "No EU & US release"-slap to the face to the very few really wanted core games that have arised in the Wii's dying days the Wii was doomed to unpopularity in the end.
A console CAN be the ruler of the market when it's not the most powerful, see 90's for example: How long was Nintendo's SNES the big winner over the even stronger Sony PS1? SNES had the 100 times weaker tech and graphics, but overall the way better and some till today legendary games we all remember and Sony's PS1 was long time not that popular until...well I don't know, let's say the Tomb Raider games and Final Fantasy changing from Nintendo to Sony started the winning for Sony.
It's not about the tech or power, it's about innovative and fun to play games, but unfortunatley many developers and even us gamers seem to have forgotten this in favor of eye candy....which you can look at interested for maybe 1 hour. Innovation and great storytelling as well as gameplay you can look at interested for years and it stays in yoiur heart and soul a lifetime.
So much about this!
Oh what have I waited for this day of joy. A long sustained dream has finally come true. I just finished Kingdom Hearts II today, finally, after abouttwo long longyears of waiting.
Why so long you ask? Well, first of all: No, I didn't need two years to beat that game alone ^^ Well, let mebegin it in terms of a well know video game line:
"This is My Story"
It all began when I saw Kingdom Hearts II in a store shelf quite some time after it's release, maybe one of the last product lines of the game that has been sold. Till that point I never was that much interested in playing Kingdom Hearts, even as big fan of Final Fantasy and I was as well aware that my all time favorite Final Fantasy character Squall Leonhart was in it.
But on this special, fateful day, maybe it have been faeries that made me decide to buy it (and because it had low price ).
Well, I bought it, took it home and started to play it. And some hours in the game it hit me like an Avalanche. I sat there in front of my PS2 and my only questions about that game had been:
"What? Who? Where? How? Why?......" and many many more of this kind, or in short: I realized I'd never be able to get the whole story if I'd never played Kingdom Hearts I or Chain of Memories.
And here layed the big and massive problem that forced me to wait: I couldn't obtain it anymore anywhere, not one single store was selling those games anymore...I looked out for about two years for them everywhere I went when I had the occassion, but without any luck.
And then, just about 1 month ago Lady Luck just visited me, a friend of mine send me exactly those two games among some others in her gaming collection and I couldn't belive my massive fortune.
So I finally was able to play KH I and Chain of Memories, and getting their stories, now feeling ready to finally play Kingdom Hearts II which I just finished today.
And it was TOTALLY worth waiting THAT long to finish the story, never before has ending a game felt THAT rewarding!
The game itself is a true epic masterpiece ofall ages of video gaming, the final bossfight was something that was just outright awesome and when the end credits finally rolled I felt a obsession releasing my heart.
A bittersweet feeling of finally beeing able to finish it but at the same time saying goodbye to something that followed me for so long.
Though knowing that the game will live on in my Heart, which is something not many games to with me. And when I think about all other fans of Kingdom Hearts who carry the memories of life of this awesome adventure in their Hearts as well I think I'm a bit closer to understand what "Kingdom Hearts" is and really means...
...it's way more than just the games explanation of it, it's something where I'm glad and touched deep in my heart by the fact that I'm a part of it now as well
Holy moly, anyone else thought: Ouh just 10 days to finish Uncharted 3?
