All About RageQuitter69
My previous blog about overrated and underrated games was of poor quality so I thought that I would redo it and make it a top 5 rather than a top 10.
5. SPLINTER CELL CONVICTION
If one common trend besides valuing story over gameplay exists this generation it's destroying loved franchises. Splinter Cell Conviction turns the popular stealth franchise into a third person shooter. Name a feature in previous games and chances are that it has been destroyed in Splinter Cell Crapviction. The game is good as an action game so I have to give it some points for that but the game is a terrible, terrible 'Splinter Cell' game. R.I.P. Splinter Cell 2002-2010. Splinter Cell Conviction gets an okay 6/10.
4. HEAVY RAIN
I can hear the sound of tochers and pitchforks outside my window, before anyone comments saying so, I know that Heavy Rain is not your traditional game. Heavy Rain isinnovative andderivative at the same time, it's innovative because it's something not yet scene this generation but it's deritvative because it follows the trend of valuing the story over gameplay. Heavy Rain may have some engaging quick time events but it is let down by plot holes and mundane takes such as brush your teeth, no video game story, good or bad, can make brushing your teeth fun or engaing. Heavy Rain gets a good but flawed 6.5/10.
3. RESIDENT EVIL 5
Let is be said that overrated does not always been mad but there aredefinitelyexceptions, Resident Evil 5 is one of these exceptions. Resident Evil 4 reinvented the franchise but still offered fans what they were after, Resident Evil 5 may use some of the mechanics from Resident Evil 5, but Resident Evil 5 is terrible in nearly every way and destroys the survival horror genre. Resident Evil 5 may look nice, but it has awful controls, a terrible setting, mediocre plot, abysmal AI and the less said about the inventory system that somehow requires you to store your body armour and in the pocket of the body armour the better. The only saving grace is the on rails gunner sections but these do not not belong in a Resident Evil game. R.I.P. Resident Evil 1996-2009. Resident Evil 5 get an awful 3.5/10.
2. METAL GEAR SOLID 4: GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS
Not as bad as Resident Evil 5 but Metal Gear Solid 4 takes the Number 2 spot on my list because it is considered perfect by many gamers and critics. In reality and Kevin VanOrd's fantasy world, Metal Gear Solid 4 is not perfect, it's far from perfect. When the movie length, repetitive and numerous cutscenes are skipped, Metal Gear Solid 4 is FOUR HOURS LONG, any other game would have been bashed for having a single player campaign that length. Is there multiplayer to make up for the lack of single player content, well yes and no (actually just no as of June) but you only get some of it for free, the rest of it you have to bay for, this makes Metal Gear Solid 4 the worst value for money this generation. Metal Gear Solid 4 gets a mediocre 5/10.
1. MASS EFFECT 2
Also not as bad as Resident Evil 5 but it still takes the Number 1 spot on my list due to it also being considered perfect just like Metal Gear Solid 4. Mass Effect is nowhere near perfect, gamers and critics have to understand that GAMEplay is the most important part of GAMES (it should be self explanatory), and in Mass Effect 2, anything that even relates to gameplay is shallow, mediocre and feels tacked on. Mass Effect 2 may have over 30 more hours of gameplay that Metal Gear Solid 4 but gameplay is becomes unbearable for after 4 hours. Great stories mean nothing when gameplay is worse than listening to Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Mabye on repeat, because of this, Mass Effect 2 barley scapes a mediocre 5/10.
REST OF UNDERRATED COMING SOON
2. SAINTS ROW THE THIRD & JUST CAUSE 2
I couldn't decide which game was more underrated because they are both underrated for exactly the same reasons so I had to put them both in the Number 2 position on this list. Both Saints Row The Third and Just Cause 2 are games that are made to give the player a fun time more than anything else, since all that gamers and critics seem to care about this generation is story, both games fell under the radar fast. To top that off, both games are open world games with vehicles and weapons that are not GTA, games like that have always been underrated. Both Saints Row The Third and Just Cause 2 get almost perfect 9.5/10s.
1. MAFIA II
Mafia II was a missunderstood masterpeice, unlike popular 'games' like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Mass Effect 2, Mafia II combined storytelling and gameplay flawlessly, it told a fantastic engaing plot in a great 40s/50s setting with memorable characters but the gameplay never suffered, cars handled great, the shootouts were intenese and overall, everything was done with a high level of polish. Why was Mafia II underrated? many critics were expecting a free roaming action adventure game but didn't get it and bashed it for not being a full open world game like Grand Theft Auto or Saints Row, this is possibly the mosthypocritical act of all game critics because if it was a full open world game, the game still would have been bashed for being an open city game with cars and guns that isn't Grand Theft Auto. 2K Games created a masterpeice but it didn't stand a chance of getting the critical reception it deserved. Mafia II gets a masterful 10/10.
