My thoughts on the Nintendo Wii

Personally I've never been a big fan of Nintendo. The only piece of Nintendo hardware I have is a Gameboy Advance, and I've only got two games for it. I think it's mainly because I don't like the kind of games available for the Nintendo consoles. All that Mario and stuff never really appealed to me.

That's also why I haven't bought the Nintendo Wii. To me all that Mario and Pokémon is kinda... arcade. Almost every single game out for the Nintendo Wii at the moment seem arcade to me, and the few ones that don't, meaning games like Pirates of the Caribbean, haven't recieved very good reviews. Now don't get me wrong here, I usually have nothing against arcade games. Though to me, arcade games is the kind of games I play for free on the internet when I'm really bored. When playing on a console I would rather play a more serious game, like FPS's.

I know that I'm not in my right to sit here and talk bad about games I've never even played, it's just that - as I mentioned earlier - the games that the Nintendo consoles have to offer, never really have caught my interest.

Now, the Nintendo Wii. I think that the reason that so many Nintendo fans buy/bought the console is because of the new and unique controls. I don't think the games themselves really are that new, except for a few of the launch titles, like "Rayman: Raving Rabbids" or "Wii Sports". I think most of the games are just previous Nintendo games converted into Wii versions. I'm sure that the first weeks or months of arm swinging is pretty fun, but after a while I think that the joy wears off. I'm sure that in the beginning it's very fun to play golf and hold the Wiimote with both hands, like a real golf-player, but I think after a while you'll just end up swinging the wiimote with one hand while looking at the screen. This obviously takes away much of the fun.

I don't think that the Nintendo Wii will last for very long. I don't think that Nintendo will reach their goal of 6 million sales within this year. I'm sure that a few very good games will come along for the Wii at some point, but they won't be enough to keep the Wii going for very long. As the Sega executive said: "The Wii will start to look really dated within a year or two". I agree, but that's just me.
