    I've Got A Serious Question

Ok.  I've posted this once in an OT topic but here's the basics.  When I was 15 I was shooting fireworks and fishing at a local lake with 2 friends on July 3rd.  Fairly large dirt area near the lake, we had our seats out, and plenty of room to shoot bottle rockets.  Great day.  Up pulls a truck, and it's a gentleman, his wife, and 4 children, one of which was about our age.  He came over and hung out with us, not wanting to play with his much younger siblings and parents, who were 20 or so feet away.  So after an hour of getting to know him, and general fun, we all heard a pop.  Shooting fireworks, this didn't shock anyone, but we looked over and the father had fallen down.  We all 4 ran over, and because it was hot he had his shirt off, and there was a small trickle of blood coming out of a tiny hole near where I thought his heart was.  He didn't seem to respond to his frantic wife, so I ran down the dirt road a bit, don't know why I didn't drive his truck, to the first house and called 911.  They made it there quickly, but quickly told us he was killed instantly.  Come to find out, across the lake was another group of teenagers, and one said a racial slur about the family, took aim with his .22 and made an impossibly fatal shot.  We never even saw them.  Big ordeal, white kid, black man, racial overtones his friends admitted to, and I even knew the kid once I found out who it was.  Under our state's law, because he was 14, he was let out once he was 18.  Saw him maybe twice since then, adult prison for 4 years certainly was a punishment.  Now to my point.  I think about this man's family all the time.  Especially his son.  I want to find him, talk to him, maybe get to know him.  But also maybe I shouldn't.  This incident for me, being 15, had a profound effect on how I see the world and life, but it wasn't my father that was killed.  I've reached a point now I'm either going to try to find him, or not.  Anyone's thoughts are appreciated.

    Peace, Bryan

    The Family

So I finally, after 5 years, have figured out how to put pics on here. Since I always talk about them here they are: Wife with the twins, My birthday present from my brother in Iraq, and my step son with mom and the twins.
